  • Everything is updated. Too tired to expand on that!

  • The 2 draws count as no points for anyone (just in case you had forgotten that rule) but scoring was high in the other games.

Of the 5 teams battling it out for the top 4 spots, no team lost - the Blues teams played out a draw. The Barbarians took over at the top from the BOP Chiefs due to picking up a bonus point and having a better points difference (with identical points scored). They beat Canes Black easily, Higgins and Triple T with 47 with only a 42 for Stockcar86 in response and @Bones didn't tip. The BOP Chiefs scraped past South Island with all 5 of their scoring tippers between 41 and 44. The South had the top scorer of the round, Dolamite with 52 and 47 from Corkscrew but the rest were poor - Smudge turned up a day late but still scored more than the other 3.

The SunJags beat the woeful Canes Gold despite playing with only 4 - Bruce Kenyon and @chimoaus were absent - and were rescued by Richie and Joan and Mary with 47 each. Canes Gold had no score over 40. Finally Blues B had FarNthHayden and Gunner over 40, Blues A had Justin77 with 47 plus Virgil & JK on 44 but they played out a draw. Blues A not helped by the absence of @Tim

Dolamite takes over at the top with the top score of 52, 2 ahead of Hydro11 who is 2 ahead of Gunner. Corkscrew is trying to bridge the gap to the 3 leaders and DK is still holding on in 5th.

2 draws in the Cup, the winners of those ties is decided by the first to get ahead in next week's games.

  • @KiwiPie OK that's really weird, I did tip. I always get a blank screen when I've tipped though, so maybe I closed it a bit early. I highly doubt I would have scored better.

  • I’m conflicted with @Tim
His absence cost us a team win but i was able to rise an extra place in the leader board thanks to his 0

  • @Bones after you have tipped, scroll up to see the confirmation..when I tip I get a blank screen, but is in fact a couple of pages down from the top.

Weakness in Google Forms I think - a long form stays at the same scroll point after you submit when the success message is at the top of the screen.

  • @KiwiPie Thanks. Enjoy your well earned rest.

  • Time to tip everyone. 90 minutes to go

  • @KiwiPie what are scores like this year in comparison to same round in previous ones?

Just feels like they are a bit lower (might just be me...as in my score is lower)

  • @taniwharugby Not sure exactly but I agree with you, this is a low scoring year. Best result picker is only at 67% and usually it is 75% or higher. The ladder shows how hard it has been to pick with so many teams winning about as many as they have lost.

  • The weeks with the four special category picks have been the hardest with not many seeming to get more than one of those at best. You only need to get a slightly "unexpected" scoreline to destroy 95% of tippers. This week looks to be a bit different with Sunwolves being stone cold certainties for the lowest scoring team.

  • Predictable win for the Brumbies means not only quite a few maximums but also many of us picking up 5 points for the low scorer pick. Bizarrely Waynes World, Dogmeat and Broughie all went for the Sunwolves 17+ - was it a gut feeling or mixing up the home and away teams?

The BOP Chiefs stormed home against Blues B to win by a point and lead overall going into the final round. Solid scoring by all but Sportboy (4 x 50+) and Blues B had 64 by DK but just missed out not helped by Dogmeat & Broughie's brainfart. They did pick up 2 bonus points though to retain their top 4 spot.

Blues A sneaked past Canes Gold to keep their top 4 hopes alive. Solid scoring was enough for the win as Canes Gold had 2 counting scores in the 30s. Barbarians and Sunjags played out a high scoring draw, Triple T the best of the week with 66 and Joan and Mary and Chimoaus both over 60 for the Sunjags.

Finally Canes Black kept their faint hopes alive with the top score of the weekend, Hydro11 and Cactus Jack over 60 and their lowest counting score a solid 52. South Island had 61 from ACT Crusader but have now clinched the wooden spoon.

    So the table is

    BOP Chiefs 42
    Barbarians 40
    SunJags 39
    Blues B 38
    Blues A 38
    Hurricanes Black 34

and the final round of games is

    BOP Chiefs 0 - 0 Blues A
    Hurricanes Black 0 - 0 SunJags
    Blues B 0 - 0 Hurricanes Gold
    South Island 0 - 0 Barbarians

19 of 48 picked all 7 results this week with most wrong picks being for the Chiefs v Sharks game. At the top of the table, Hydro11 takes over again from Dolamite by just 4 points with another 14 points back to the resurgent DK who jumped above Gunner.

The Sequel Cup has reached the last 8

    Hydro11 0 v 0 Joan and Mary
    Triple T 0 v 0 Higgins
    Mikedogz 0 v 0 Laurence
    Donsteppa 0 v 0 Virgil

    FAAAAAAARK

  • @KiwiPie MIXING UP THE HOME AND AWAY TEAMS DEFINATELY although maybe there was collusion by Blues A.

  • Don't feel too bad about it - if you'd both gone for the Brumbies, even just 1-8, you would have won the game and be top of the table. Like going in under the posts and then missing the conversion .....

But the BOP Chiefs team is appreciative!

  • @KiwiPie Resurgent? I'll let the wife know and report back

  • @KiwiPie Where's the freakin "Unlike" button.

  • @dogmeat Presumably because they have the bye this week and you'll be back on them next week?

  • @KiwiPie that was my attempt at humour yes.

  • @KiwiPie you're doing a very good job of making me feel good that the oldest professional club in the world just dropped out of the Football League

  • Goodness this has been a bruising round. I did a quick calculation of my score and it only just snuck into double figures and I suspect there might a some tippers giving the magical nil total a good nudge. We await KP to post the results of this week's carnage!

I was going to ask - anyone here claiming a good score for this week before I compute?

  • @KiwiPie by good you mean like defence good, as in the lower the better?

  • @KiwiPie making it into double figures is good, isn’t it?

  • As predicted, it was tipping carnage out there - only 5 games to score on, nobody at all picked the Jaguares to win, only 2 were on the Bulls so nearly all points were scored for the next 3 games. Leading the lowest scores (and I can't remember a lower score for someone who tipped all games) were Virgil and Broughie with only 2 points. Plenty only had 1 result correct and nobody reached 30 points.

GT12 the only one to get 4 results correct this week but Corkscrew topped scoring with 29 points, through picking the Crusaders as closest game.

All of the top 4 won so the semi-finalists are decided - BOP Chiefs won their first minor premiership and will play Blues B while the Barbarians will play the SunJags.

No real change at the top except for DK falling out of the top 3, Hydro11 still leads by 4 from Dolamite so all still to play for.

In the Sequel Cup, Hydro11 will play Donsteppa in one semi while Triple T or Higgins will play Mikedogz in the other.

Everything is up to date at https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping/ and next week's form is ready for tipping.

  • OUCH

  • @KiwiPie yes, 3rd equal best defence!!

  • the best part is that my score is about same as my usual 😉

    A rather flaccid week

  • @taniwharugby What he said - still 3 more rounds including this one.

  • As we're in playoff mode, a progress update after 2 games. This weekend is already better than last weekend for quite a few people although getting the 2 margins correct was tricky.

    Play-offs BOP Chiefs 16 - 15 Blues B
    Barbarians 18 - 17 SunJags

    Plate Blues A 16 - 14 South Island
    Hurricanes Black 14 - 12 Hurricanes Gold

With a maximum score of 20 are Unite, Langakali and Higgins.

    Sequel Cup semi-finals

    Hydro11 12 v 17 Donsteppa
    Higgins 20 v 17 Mikedogz

  • Scores are in and everything is up to date in the usual place.

Mikedogz gets best score of the weekend with 66, 7 correct results and both category picks as well. He helped the BOP Chiefs to easily dispose of Blues B and reach the final - to try to win their first ever title after losing 3 previous finals. The SunJags put away the favoured Barbarians to reach their first ever final - so there will be a new winner on the trophy.

Overall Mikedogz shot up to 2nd spot, just 2 points behind Hydro11 - this despite missing a week and also scoring 8 in Week 10. Corkscrew also scored well to move level in 3rd with Dolamite and 9 off the lead. Gunner is just 4 back and with 2 weeks to go, one of these 5 should be champion with only DK an outside bet at 22 off the lead.

In the Sequel Cup, it is Donsteppa v Mikedogz in the final over 2 legs.

  • Scores on doors as I missed that out last time. And honourable mentions in addition to Mikedogz to JK, Tim, Chimoaus, Cactus Jack, Rico#1, TR, J77, Stockcar86 and Broughie who all picked 7/7.

  • @KiwiPie 7/7 but only 1 margin!

Are the competition stats page all up to date too?
