2016 Hawkes Bay Rep Rugby

  • Thought this deserved a separate topic, especially because the results are worrying. I have copied some info from several websites, because the HBRU doesn't keep theirs up-to-date.

Results up to and including 27 August:

Hawke's Bay Saracens (including Magpies trials & PS games):

    Mon 6/6 Wairarapa Bush 19 - 68 HB Saracens (Magpies PS/trial game)
    Wed 29/6 Manawatu Evergreens 59 – 0 HB Saracens (Magpies PS/trial game)
    Sat 31/7 HB Saracens 17 – 54 Manawatu Evergreens (Magpies PS/trial game)
    Sat 6/8 Taranaki 19 – 3 HB Saracens (Magpies PS/trial game)

Sat 13/8 Wanganui 41 - 19 HB Saracens (PS game)
Sat 20/8 HB Saracens 24 - 44 Poverty Bay (PS game)
Sat 27/8 HB Saracens 31 - 62 Manawatu Dev (PS game)

The competition starts on Sat 10/9 with a game v Wellington Samoans in Lower Hutt (Petone Rec, 12.30pm).

    HB U19
    Sun 7/8 BOP U19 v HB U19 (PS game, I couldn't find the result)
    Sat 13/8 Wanganui 19 - 12 HB U19 (PS game)
Sat 27/8 HB U19 7 - 56 Manawatu U19 (seeding game for Jock Hobbs Memorial National U19 Tournament 14-21 September)

Their next game is on Sat 3/9 v Wellington U19 in Lower Hutt (Petone Rec, 1.00pm).

    HB Tuis
They finished last in the Women's NPC last year, so the union just pulled them from the competition this year, supposedly to re-build a team with the aim of introducing a more competitive team in next year's WPC. That will obviously only work if they will finally give women's rugby the proper funding to implement their plan.
They played two "tri-series" (2x 40 minutes games v two different opponents). On Sat 23/7, they lost 7 - 21 to Manawatu and beat BOP 10-7. I couldn't find the results of their games on Sat 30/7 when they played Manawatu and Wellington.
As far as I know, there are no further games scheduled for the women's team in 2016.

    HB U18 girls
    Sat 27/8 HB U18 55 - 24 Taranaki U19
Their next game is on Sat 3/9 v Manawatu U18 (Tremain Field, 1.00pm).

HB U16 and HB U16 Dev
These teams play their first games on Sat 10/9 in Palmerston North against, respectively, Wellington U16 and Wellington U16 Dev.
The Hurricanes Tournament is from 26 to 29 September.

    HB U14
Their first game is on Sun 4/9 in Palmerston North v Taranaki.

  • Result found on Twitter:

    HB U19 3 - 38 Wellington U19

    Another big loss.

Edit: the U18 girls beat Manawatu 22-20.

  • Just read on Twitter that the HB Saracens just won their first game of the season. They beat Wellington Samoans 38-21.

  • At last some good new, albeit against a team that is selected from players that are not wanted by either Wellington Lions, Wellington Development or Wellington Under 19s and possibly a few other rep teams as well. Still they do have a good number of capable players to pick from. I hear Wgtn Samoans did manage to beat the Bay Samoans a week or so ago. Can you confirm anything about that please Stargazer?0

Yes, Wellington Samoans beat Bay Samoans 40-24 last Saturday.
HB Samoans will play Horowhenua-Kapiti Samoans on Saturday, 24 September.

  • More results:

The U19s beat the Hurricanes Barbarians U19 76-0.
Because they lost to both Wellington and Manawatu, they will play in the bottom half of the Jock Hobbs Memorial Tournament, where they'll first play Southland on Wednesday.

The U18 girls lost 64-7 to the Wellington U18 girls.

    The U16 "A" boys beat Wellington U16 "A" 32-22.
The U16 Development team lost to Wellington U16 Dev 60-5.

I couldn't find the result of the U14s.

Bit of a mixed bag this weekend, but at least not all teams lost.

  • The U14s won the game against Manawatu 29-14.

HB Samoans will play Horowhenua-Kapiti Samoans on Saturday, 24 September.

Still the Hb Samoans pre season from what I heard. There were winning hen subbed most of the team with 30 to go

That's correct. The Wellington Samoa team competes in the Hurricanes Development competition, while the Hawke's Bay, Manawatu, Horowhenua-Kapiti and Wanganui Samoa teams take part in the Central Region High Commission competition. The next game is the first competition game.

    Round 1:
    24/9, Horowhenua-Kapiti Samoans v HB Samoans
25/9, Manawatu Samoans v Wanganui Samoans (Levin Domain)

    Round 2:
1/10, Whanganui Samoans v HB Samoans
    1/10, Manawatu Samoans v Horowhenua-Kapiti Samoans (Marton)

    Round 3:
8/10, HB Samoans v Manawatu Samoans (Hastings)
    8/10, Horowhenua-Kapiti Samoans v Whanganui Samoans

15/10, Finals (Bill Brown Park, Palmerston north)

  • This weekend's results:

The Saracens had a good win over Manawatu Dev: 29 – 14
The U19s lost the Jock Hobbs Memorial U19s Championship semi-final 8 – 31 to Bay of Plenty U19
    The U16s beat Poverty Bay 27 - 24
The U16 Dev team had a narrow loss to Horowhenua Kapiti U16: 18 – 19
    Finally, the U14s beat Wellington U13 53 – 0

On Wednesday, the U19s will play Tasman for 11th place (k/o 1:05pm). Last year, they finished 12th.

  • The Magpies may end up being our shittiest rep team, because:

The Saracens beat Wellington 44 -34. That win was good for the overall win of the Hurricanes Development XV title.
The U14s beat Manawatu 47 to 13; they have won all their four games of the season.

  • The Hawke's Bay Samoa team beat Horowhenua Kapiti Samoa last Saturday: 37-19

    HB Samoa scorers:
Tries: Tom Iosefo, Paula Latu, Lanitalo Latu, Danya Tulou, John Lauano
    Con: John Lauano 3
    Pen: John Lauano 2

Player of the Day: Captain Pouvi Fatialofa

  • Both Bay teams finished 3rd in their division at the Hurricanes U16 Tournament.

In division A, the HB U16 team beat Poverty Bay 33-0.
HB U16 Dev defeated Wairarapa Bush 22 to 7 in division B.

Wellington won both divisions with their A team and their Dev team.

The HB Saracens suffered a big loss in their last game of the year to Canterbury Dev: 15-43 (HT: 10-17). Apparently, Canterbury scored 4 tries in the last 20 minutes. Saracens halfback Karl Hewitt tore his biceps at the beginning of the game and was due for surgery tonight.

As far as I know, all official rep teams have now played all their games for the season.
Only the HB Samoa team (not part of the HBRU) still have games to play.

  • HB Samoa beat Wanganui Samoa 32 to 21 yesterday.
