Is it fair to say this is close to the Landers 23 going from those photos?

    1. De Groot
    2. Taylor
    3. Mau'u
    4. Holland
    5. Dunshea
    6. Howden
    7. Lasaga
    8. Withy
    9. Hastie
    10. Grant
    11. Nareki
    12. Tavatavanawai
    13. Telea'a
    14. Lowe
    15. Rautamatuvuki-Kneepkens
    16. Vikena
    17. Bartlett
    18. Wingham
    19. Haig
    20. Stodart
    21. Fakatava
    22. Millar
    23. Umaga-Jensen

Hard to judge. Seems to be a few combinations in the photos. Especially in the backs. Seen both Lennox and Hastie at halfback.

Same at hooker with both Vikena and Taylor in the top strip.

Could be a bit of a lottery. Really will say a lot about the opinion of our current 10s if a guy with one NPC start gets the gig

Going out on a limb to say those initial shots are from training at the start of the week, hence the bibs as opposed to the usual white alternate kit. I'd be surprised if Grant is at 10.

I think we should be taking some risks. What that looks like, I'm not sure. It doesn't look like Sam Gilbert and Jonah Lowe though.

On a side note, I went back and watched some NPC highlights from last year. Initially to find the game Grant played. Then watched some Otago packages. The best Cam Millar played was when he had Hurley outside him. Having Hurley running at pace at the line. Bit of a moot point as the little fella is out now. Just shows what sort of player and style bring out Millar's best attacking attributes.

@SouthernMann Millar (or any 10 for that matter) would look better if our pack was giving front-foot ball. I also think a better 10 would put our pack in better positions to get front-foot ball, so possibly a chicken and the egg situation.

    Yes.

What I was pointing out is if you look at the highlights. He is at his best with Hurley hole running off him. A lot of the tries Hurley scored were in combination with Millar.

@SouthernMann Sure, but JRK can do this also - but it is hard to run a hole as Hurley did against the Waratahs when we donโ€™t have front foot ball, because generally that is how gaps get created in defence.

My feeling is our issues are highly interconnected, and will be fixed by time but also a better first five.

Dude. It was simply an observation from highlights.

The Hurricanes are wearing their Captain America jerseys again this week.

Iโ€™m so looking forward to not being able to tell which team has the ball. ๐Ÿ™„

Ah feck. Disappointing it wasn't identified earlier

@Canes4life just what we need at Sky Stadium, being miles away from the field and unable to tell the two teams apart

Iโ€™m kind of hoping at least the Landers do the same as there was some green in their Hulk strip.

They've worn their maroon away jersey regularly.

Let's hope that's the case then. Surely both sides have the brain power to ensure there isn't a clash of jerseys, it's so infuriating as a fan.

    Hurricanes team vs Highlanders

    • No Lomax (ankle)
    • Du Plessis to the bench
    • Still no Delany (back) and Flanders
    • Cameron comes onto the bench for Hohepa.

Would have been a great game to see Flanders back in the jersey but oh well, very happy to see Brett Cameron back none the less! I guess this is considered a rest for Kirifi who has probably played the most minutes for us this year.

I know the guy cops a fair bit of flack. But, I just can't understand the selecting of Lowe if we aren't renewing his deal. The season is gone. Just pick guys who are coming back again. Lowe isn't so good he has to be picked. He is just a limited mistakes option.

@SouthernMann yep, think it's worth giving Robinson a shot at fullback too, him and Miller might work well in combination.
