skipping is evil...!!

MN - try ang get some big rubber matts - the conveyor belts they use at quarries is perfect, if you happen to know anyone in that trade,... Aska truck driver! Or alternativly, get a small sheet of flooring or ply or something, a bunch of those rubber type doormats, and then lay a floor - doormats and then flooring on top, should give you enough give to stop any damage!

and skipping, EVIL!!! Did I already say that.

and typical kiwi bloke eh, doing the beach muscles!

I'm jumping on the those sorts of mats too, makes a big difference. Rope will last longer too.

The other thing to do is get a one of those foam rollers and press your shins and calfs to loosen them up. I pretty much can't workout without doing that.

I hear ya Kirwan, have been getting a bit of cramp in the last week so I do need to be careful in my "advanced" years.

I deal with it a shitload better than rigor though ( who also got mentioned in my last post )
That was awesome. Didn't he carry on the same in the marathon recently as well? Great scream.

Got through my box jumps after the skipping strain, so I might ease those back into rotation now too. Sucks getting old!

Yeah great from Rigor, he really did carry on like he'd been shot. He is actually a bloody fit looking joker so to see how slow he runs and the fact he gets cramp that often is surprising, mind you anyone looks like an Adonis next to good old fat guts Smithy in the commentary box. He looks seriously fucken unhealthy. You're right though Kirwan, getting old does suck, I look at my boys running around, jumping on bikes, basically all sorts of high tailin hootinanny and you do long for the days when you don't ache after doing it yourself hahaha.

In saying that the intial ache after skipping has gone, love doing the double jumps, they screw ya up REAL good. Basically I have only one day "off" so to speak, its either skipping or weights, as long as I can stay pretty good with the booze things should be pretty peachy !
He's slow over a short distance but since leaving cricket I'm pretty sure he has clocked up some pretty quick times in the half and full marathon.

Some research points to genetics being the cause of why some people get cramp more often than others. Fluids and salts play a part but not the main part.

Good work on the skipping though! Went out and bought a rope today after reading this thread.

Only doing this a few minutes at a time but sure is an intense few minutes ! I'm focussing on crossovers, one leg, double jumps and what have you. Joints and balls of feet seem to be less painful now as well which is good !
The brutal ache in my calves convinces me that this is gonna turn into an addiction. After some careful practice I managed a few double unders ( ie two before your feet hit the ground ) doing a few of these in a row is my next goal. Seriously, even walking is aching a bit at the moment ! personally not sure on the 70-75% pace though ACT, might try later but I prefer to go quicker.

Disappointing lack of sweat afterwards but the capital is cold and breezy at the moment.
The 70-75% is more for the one legged stuff. I don't alternate legs in the one leg skips, it's basically a quick hop repetitive. Going hard out hopping on one foot is tough work. And repeating for numerous sets you might not make it.
