@sneakdefreak The other area is edge pass rusher. It should hugely prioritised in that the elite in that position are hard to find. Pay a premium as its worth it (high draft pick or free agent $).

@sneakdefreak He has everything you want in a franchise QB. Be really interesting to see how he goes vs Jags. The best defense in the league vs Jimmy G & an elite offense playcaller.

Watched the extended highlights. The Jags defence kept making silly penalties when there was no need to. First time I've actually watched Blake Bortles play too and wow does he suck.

The 49ers have done well at building their depth offensively but still missing that star WR (Garcon is on IR but he's really a WR2). WR Trent Taylor, TE George Kittle and RB Matt Breida will be good young pieces going forward though (along with QB Jimmy G). RB Carlos Hyde is a pending free agent and I think the 49ers will let him go. Better to roll with Breida and add another RB in free agency or the draft.

@sneakdefreak Was a good learning for the Jags - sounds like the 49ers knew going in that the Jags were an emotional team and tried to get the Jags to overstep the mark - which they did. Jags need to take the lessons into the playoffs otherwise they'll be toast.

I think the 49ers could use a really big target with a large catching radius (either WR or TE) to help them in the redzone and to offer something different from their other receivers to win jump balls etc - that's probably something they are missing at the moment.

Will be interesting to see what the 49ers do in free agency as not only do they have a lot of cap space (even after paying Jimmy G) all of a sudden they are a hot destination to go to. I'd be happy to see Hyde come back if he's not chasing a huge deal - if he's chasing the $ then best to let him go.

@kiwimurph Agree re: the big target. Sammy Watkins would be a smart choice as he's not going to stay with the Rams where Woods and Kupp are WR1 and WR2. He's also a big redzone target which Garcon and Goodwin are not (nor are they WR1 calibre).
Jags WR Allen Robinson would be another choice - he's 6'3 and can post big numbers when he has a competent QB (and when he's not injured).
Other options are Green Bay WR Davante Adams and Miami WR Javris Landry but I think both will stay where they are.

I would like to see the 49ers target in free agency:
WR: Sammy Watkins or Allen Robinson
RB: Jeremy Hill or Rex Burkhead (to share duties with Matt Breida)
TE: Tyler Eifert (but I'm fine with Kittle and Celek)

I'm not going to pretend that I know who the best OL and DB options are for the team.

Everyone thinks its so Harrison can give them intel on the Steelers, who the Pats will probably bump into on the road to the Superbowl. Problem is, according to one of the Steelers rookies, Harrison wasn't really turning up to practice and video sessions so it's unlikely he knows what is going on.

The 49ers finish their season with a 34-13 win over a (mostly) second unit LA Rams side. Jimmy G still undefeated as a starting QB, the young players look the goods and the 49ers have gone from being one of the worst teams in the NFL to one of the best, if not the best, to be outside the playoffs.

If the front office manages another good draft and free agency the 49ers will be back in the playoffs next season.

Also, congratulations to the Cleveland Browns on going 0-16. A great achievement for the organisation and I can see why they have kept the head coach (he'll get fired soon enough). Cleveland has the first pick in the draft but also the fourth pick (via Houston). They'll fuck it up though.

Wow...the Buffalo Bills have made the playoffs for the first time in 17 years after the Ravens choked against the Bengals. I didn't even know they were still in it.
    NFC field: 1.Eagles 2.Vikings 3. LA Rams 4.Saints 5.Panthers 6.Falcons
    AFC field: 1.Pats 2.Steelers 3.Jags 4.Chiefs 5.Titans 6.Bills

Cam Newton with another pea-hearted show pony effort vs the Falcons. Him and Olsen running routes like it was the first day of training camp instead of the final tune-up for the playoffs. Newton with a couple of lethargic handoff fumbles to his RB then its sook time like its their fault.

Hope the levee breaks for them vs N.O Saints next week

In all fairness, Olsen is playing on a broken foot and the Panthers traded away Newton's only other receiver of note halfway through the season. But New Orleans will slaughter them next week.

One has to wonder how Caldwell (18-14 in the last two seasons with a playoff appearance) gets let go, and Jackson (1-31 in the last two seasons) still keeps his job.

Raiders fire their coach Jack Del Rio.

It sounds like Jon Gruden is going to be the new coach of the Raiders.

He's been linked with job openings in the NFL and college every offseason but this time it looks like the real deal. It is certainly a positive PR move for a franchise going into the last year in a city before relocating.

That's probably what it is: Gruden in 2018 and 2019 and then a young understudy takes over. Gruden gets offered a job in the Raiders front office for life.

I expect a lot of teams will try and copy San Franciso and LA Rams and go for young first-time head coaches. I expect a lot of teams to fail badly.

@sneakdefreak I agree - last year seemed like a much stronger crop of coaches (Shanahan, McVay, McDermott and Marrone)

    Bills fans are awesome

Bills fans by the thousands are expressing their thanks to the Cincinnati Bengals for helping end Buffalo’s 17-year playoff drought by together donating more than $170,000 so far to the charitable cause of Cincinnati QB Andy Dalton.
