Two rounds in to the new season. Easter Monday's traditional Hawks v Cats was one of the best regular season games you could hope for 117-116, right to the wire. It appears we may have written off Hawthorn a little prematurely. Clarkson is a fucking genius. These two teams have been providing blockbusters for more than a decade now.
For the clubs that people care about:
Yes Richmond lost on the weekend, but they will be top 4 again this year. The game is all about forward pressure now, and they do it very well. Which means we all have to put up with floggy Tigers fans all year.
I reckon the Saints are fucked, and their coach is going to get the ass. They beat the shit Lions (more on them in a sec), and then lost to the god awful North. Actually, copped a flogging from North.
Shark's Demons are hard to read. Lost to Geelong when they should have won. Then beat the Lions, but somehow let them back in to the game when it should have been all over with a quarter to play.
For the Lions, i am actually disappointed in the start. I thought 6-8 wins would be a realistic target for the year, but despite a pretty soft start (two teams aiming for the bottom of the eight) we haven't really been in either of them. 2nd season syndrome might get a couple of the youngsters, which would absolutely kill us. It's fucking cool having Hodge though.Biggest losers so far the Dogs, who have had two thumpings, despite everyone claiming they would come back after a poor year.
Winners probably GWS, and Port.We can all rejoice in the fact that Collingwood will be shit this year again. They can keep extending Buckley's contract for all eternity as far as i am concerned.

@mariner4life
two from three for the good guys.Didn't watch last night as was nana napping on the couch so decided it was bed time. But did catch a bit of the half time chat and had forgotten just how Melbourne centric the AFL media are. St Kilda down by 10 and it was all about how Saints could win, Saints this, Saints that.
I suppose it was close ... less than 50 points.
Was picking Giants to beat Squidney. Was that an upset?
I see the BLions pushed Port. Margin a surprise for you Mariner?

I think the AFL is a good example of a salary cap and draft at work ,
there is a big group of teams who can all beat each other on their day ,
injuries , momentum , confidence will play its part I think in who will get there , Tigers last year probably werent the best team on paper ,or the best team through the season , but were thereabouts , but they got on a roll of confidence in the last 6 weeks , much like the dogs the year before ,
im off to see the tigers and the hawks today , I think we will lose , see above ,
no Caddy, prestia , Rioli , Broad , they lose a lot of contested ball ability , and pace , and the hawks themselves are on a roll right now ,
30 degres and sunny , and my fist day at the footy as an MCC member , I put my name down in 1996 and its just come through , thats how long the waiting list is ,
I can go to any event at the mcg , its like gold here in melbourne , good times
-
What a shit Friday night of sports results.
-
I was thinking of going to richmond v Brisbane today ,
but its a shitty day outside , blowing a gale and rain expected ,
So not sure ATM
-
Fuck this weekend. Chiefs shit, warriors shit, Lions disgraceful.
Nothing excuses that score. Nothing. Everyone should be ashamed
-
When one of your midfielders score three times as many goals as the opposition:

I was there , they looked like deer in the headlights, lowest score kicked at the mcg since 1962
-
Disgraceful. I've seen a bit excusing a young side having an off day. No. 17 is below what i would expect a seconds to kick.
Last week was great, this week undid all the work. I'm starting to lose faith
-
if its any consolation,
if someone told you this richmond side ( same group of players ) would be premiers a few years ago you wouldve pissed yourself laughing ,
it can turn around with the right coaching staff who stick to their development plan
-
Some absolute beltings this weekend

A few years ago I was having that very discussion with Tigers, Saints and Hawks supporters. Their list should have them in the eight and with a bit of luck the top four, where anything is possible.

Time for the AFL to stop giving anything to the Suns. the GC is a black hole when it comes to footy teams.
-
Bit rough to pick on the Suns. They haven't had a home game yet, but at least have two wins.
What about Carlton, who are dogshit, but keep getting primetime games?
-
Woo hoo
Good guys beat the Evil Swannies from Squidney.
Have to ask "what the fuck were you doing back there Tex?". Good work putting the big fella at full back for that last mark.
-
So, the AFL seems a pretty "even" comp this year, but not in a good way.
Very extended round thanks to ANZAC day took nearly a week. And a bunch of shiiiit games.
Only 3 teams kicked 100 (North got 98).
Three games finished with a margin in excess of 8-goals
Two teams won still kicking less than 80 points
There was a low scoring draw.Season is now starting to take shape
Richmond are clearly the best side.
Adelaide are good, but mentally fragile
Geelong, Sydney and GWS will probably be the best of the rest, but are a way behind the top two. This effectively gives us the same top sides as last yearTeams that considered themselves right in the mix of the top 8 in Melbourne and Essendon are, in actual fact, quite shit.
North and Collingwood are far better than anyone expected. Probably same to be said for Both Perth sides.Port look top 4 one week, and 12th the next week. Hawthorn kinda similar.
Carlton, St Kilda and Brisbane are utter shit, and will remain rooted to the bottom of the ladder for years to come. Gold Coast and the Bulldogs only marginally better.
-
I'm looking forward to seeing how well Collingwood are playing next week. The next test for the Tigers after that is going to Perth.
-
Early days ,
Im probably a little conservative , tigers getting a lot of love but we havent actually beaten anyone of great note yet ,
So im keeping a lid on it for now ,
Went to the anzac ever clash ,
Melbourne disappointing again ,another year where the media talk them up pre season , got talent there , but a soft underbelly , no ticker
-
@kiwiinmelb not sure there is "anyone of great note" this year.
The entire game appears to be forward pressure, and Richmond are still the best at it. It makes the games shit to watch, but Richmond fans pretty freaking happy with the world.

Yeah they seem to have an edge in fitness too over most sides , at the wide open spaces of the G they do anyhow , their running power is part of the process of breaking them down ,
on the smaller grounds such as Sydney or Adelaide they lose that advantage , taller sides can beat them in the air , all of a sudden they can get found out
