I'd really like a convertible standing desk for that reason. Cost way to much though, you do need to sit for part of the day.

I got one a couple of weeks ago. Bloody awesome! Swapping between sitting and standing is proving to be a great way to refresh etc. The first week was pretty tough as I didn't know how long I should try and stand for. I also noticed how tapped out my legs were when I was working out last week. Couldn't figure out why the weight felt so heavy, then I remembered I'd been standing 3-4 hours a day extra over that week.

I'd recommend it, but obviously cost is a factor. I got the smallest model available through our supplier (1200mm long) as I have a tendency to pile a crap-ton of paper in my work space. Figured a smaller desk would limit that and avoid me blowing out the poor little motor on the desk!

If I catch myself trying to lean on the desk or slouching then I go back to sitting for a while. Then there's certain tasks that are easier sitting/standing.

You gotta love the Fern, mention a topic and someone has experience of it. Can you link what you brought?

And El Toro, I have the good chair, foot stool, etc. It's just necessary when you are a software developer and spend as long as I do at my desk.

I've got the maple version rather than white. Also got a rubber floor mat which actually makes a big difference. I've still got my foot stool thingy too. I'll ask our admin team about the price - I know it was less than a grand though, maybe 700-800??

They look pretty good. What's the benefit of the rubber floor mat?

I think it takes the edge off standing on a hard office floor. I'm pretty feral so I rock bare feet a bit in the office (don't tell the H&S nazi's!!) so the mat provides a bit more cushioning... if you wore trainers or shoes with some sort of support you'd probably be fine. Biggest learning curve is how long you can stand before you start having poor standing posture!! Especially if you smashed legs at the gym!

Brilliant podcast for everyone stuck in a chronic exercise pattern........addicted to the endorphin rush.
First six minutes pretty basic then gold. Ignore the annoying accent of the host!

Sorry dont mean to bump this thing......
Very interesting read on bodyweight vs weight training.
Very much in line with how Pierre Spies turned from a freakish natural athlete in his young days to a bumbling hulk that could hardly catch the bloody ball after two years of bulking up.

Ok I know somebody should probably bliksem me for bumping this thing but there are some interesting ideas in this article to stop the rot while sitting all day.......not that I can do any of them right now! Have to be able to sit all day to be able to fight it I suppose!
Just be careful with the lifting your desk tips.........
