I don't mind the Dolphin approach. They've been mediocre for 20 years since Marino retired - constantly competitive but never good. It has got them nowhere.

Is that bad management though? And what's to say they won't screw this up too?? Funny, because I would have thought Miami would be quite an appealing place to live. Yet only the Heat are any good, the Marlins are also rubbish

The problem is it takes years to build a franchise. One draft just isn't enough to rebuild a team. Just look how long the Browns have stunk for. Even now with multiple number one overalls, first round picks and stud free agents/trades they're only middle of the pack.

It takes more than 1 draft but not that much more - the key is you have to hit on your draft picks.

The Miami Dolphins have set themselves up with a total of 5 first round picks across the next 2 drafts. If they hit on those they will be well on their way.

The issue with the Browns was they were constantly failing on their draft picks year after year - they passed on Carson Wentz - they took the likes of Johnny Manziel and Brandon Weeden.

You can turn things around in 2-3 drafts. The 49ers were absolute garbage when Shanahan/Lynch took over 2.5 years ago - they've replaced every starter other than 1 on offense (Staley) and 1 on defense (Buckner). Everyone else has been replaced. Now the 49ers legitimately look like a playoff team.

The Dolphins are probably eyeing up 2-3 years time when Brady is gone and set themselves up for long term.

It will only work if they hit on their draft picks but I understand the logic.

Tanking has been successful in other sports - the Sixers tanked in the NBA and are now a playoff team - the Astros tanked in MLB and are now the best team in the sport.

Another slick performance from Prescott and the Cowboys comfortably beat the Redskins

Eli Manning's career looks like it is over. He has benched for rookie Daniel Jones.

Quite a show loyalty. Two years of futility in return for two SBs

when you lay it out like that, it's probably a good trade off?

A bit like the Lakers and Kobe, the repercussions can be longer lasting

If Danny boy shows he's ready to take over, expect Eli to be on his way to Jacksonville or NY Jets via trade.

Eli has a no trade clause - plus who would want Eli in his current state - the third string for the Jets makes less poor decisions and the Jag-offs couldn't provide a scheme that worked for Eli anyway.

Brown out: Pats cut WR amid off-field allegations

Brown out: Pats cut WR amid off-field allegations

Antonio Brown's brief stint with the Patriots is over, as the team released him Friday. "We feel that it is best to move in a different direction at this time," the Patriots said.

The saddest thing, is that if and when this blows over, AB will still get another NFL job before Colin Kaepernick does

I had him not lasting until halfway through the season if he didn't get the receptions and yards he wanted but this train wreck has been compulsive viewing as a steeler fan

@SynicBast why as a steeler fan? I don’t think is will have any negative effect on the Patriots whatsoever?

On a personal level perhaps? He was a Steeler who forced his way out and I could understand their fans not having a lot of love for him. What a waste of talent

This. The guy was on a hall of fame first ballot track and may have ended up as one of the top 3 WRs of all time - but now it's very unlikely he will even make the HOF - T.O only got in with extreme difficulty and he was the previous poster child for Diva WRs as well as being one of the top 3 WRs (Rice, Moss and TO) of all time. AB has pissed off a lot of people around the NFL through his behaviour and while they say that Off-field character doesn't affect HoF voting, you better believe that that has changed in recent years - certainly if the allegations of sexual misconduct do hold up in court then that will affect matters.

There were a lot of things kept quiet or minimised in Pittsburgh during his time there that the locals knew of plus the issues in Florida as well endangering children. Basically if he never plays in the NFL again, I won't shed any tears.

@SynicBast ESPN are reporting that AB is walking away from the NFL. Unbelievable fall from grace. This civil suit will drain his fortune and if he loses he will be ruined. The guy had the golden ticket and flushed it down the dunny

The Jets and the Dolphins are going to be locked in a tough battle all season. I genuinely don't know if they would regard finishing ahead of the other as a victory or a loss. The perfect result for either would probably be to somehow win both divisional games but somehow finish lower overall. God they are both stinking out the division.

What's the fewest combined wins in a single division? Might be threatened by AFC East.
