The Barnya Half-Marathon Challenge (on again)
-
On the back of some credible medical advice, my mounting thesis workload and due to the utterly ludicrous $35 entry fee, I have decided not to run the HM. I will however continue my fitness program with a view to running one well prepared next year.
Perhaps a new name for the thread? -
May I refer my learned friends to the statement I gave a few pages ago ...
Barnya has a history of setting himself some high risk task, asking for advice, not listening to it and failing miserably (cooking duck anyone?).

I hope this isn't to be a repeat.

Bring us triumph Barnya, not disaster.
That'd be Barnya Munchpizza surely? <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
The workload you knew about and, from my recollection, posted about in your first post on this thread. The $35 entry fee MvJ would have gladly offset against the $50 you owe me for purchasing dinner with me on the Buy, Sell and Exchange Thread. But you did not solicit assistance.

The credible medical advice (about which you supply no information) may or may not have legs. I will give you the benefit of the doubt seeing as I know you and, whilst I suspect you are a blouse, it takes one to know one.

That is the spirit. We look forward to your daily updates continuing. To assist you I have renamed this thread to more accurately reflect your current intentions now the half marathon is out of the immediate picture. I have also stickied it. -
I have to say I'm very disapointed in you Barnya. From what I've read in this thread the running bit shouldn't be a problem. Surely if you can run 8-9 miles without having to get yourself on a transplant list for new lungs, 13 odd miles shouldn't be a problem.

I don't know what medical advice you've been given but I would suggest you seek a second opinion. Anything short of "you might suffer a thousand deaths if you take part in this SM" will just not do mister.

As for your thesis, may I point out that you're a film student? How difficult is it to photocopy a couple of Premiere movie reviews and have them pass as your thesis ffs?

Now, remember why you were doing this in the first place. Keep in mind also that you're desperate and there might be a remote chance of casual sex at the end of this.

Don't tell us what you can't do. Tell us what you will do and feckin do it! -
I'll put money on you not making the HM, let alone finsihng it me old china
Geez, some bright sparks earlier on in this thread... Â :coolsmiley:

just do it mate, shove the mdeical advice up the credible arse. Â As PdP said, if you can run 9 miles, whats 4 more. -
I would like to verify that Barnya has got three sneaky pashes from
various women over the last three weeks, two of them back to back
and one of them wearing my shirt which will be subsequently burnt.

I put this down to his commitment and intense training.
I think this is like BartMan's theory on Umanga for the
world Cup - Barnya will do the half marathon but is
telling us he's not going to, as to relieve the pressure
that is mounting upon him.

Personally I believe he is in the best shape I've seen him
and whether he does this thing or not the experience has
been extremely beneficial for him.

(Ps Barnya, don't worry about washing that shirt) -
Right that's it you bastards, I've had enough of you fluffybunnies alright. I'm gonna run this fucking Half Marathon if it's the last thing I ever do.

And it probably will be. But fuck it in the words of Rick Danko, I'd rather die happy than not die at all. To paraphrase my main man Travis Bickle, listen you fuckers, you screwheads, here is a fat bastard who would not take it anymore. A fat bastard who stood up against the scum, the fluffybunnies, the dogs, the filth, the shit. Here is a fat bastard who stood up.

Let's do this thing. -
Thursday 24th August 2006:

8km, 53mins. Went out way too hard and was fucked and had a terrible stitch by the halfway mark. Given that, I'm not all that upset about finishing 4mins off my PB.

Breakfast: two slices of wholegrain toast with marmite
Lunch: leftover vege and penne pasta
Dinner: Chicken lasagne

Thesis: 4,356 words, 13,644 to go.

So can we change the name of the thread then? -
Give that man a cigar, that's the spirit Barnya!

Can it wait until September 10?

My mate has also been instructed to be standing at the finish line with a bucket of KFC and a beer. -
Can't understand why this honour was not bestowed upon me...

Good luck with the training next week Barnya

Barnya turned down the opportunity to go to the pub last night -
Good man, my sad little life needs this vicarious challenge.

That KFC and beer will be the best ever.

However if you associate KFC and beer with happiness, they will become the substances you will be dependent on them to cheer you up for the rest of your life.
Can you live with that.

Anyway, good luck and keep posting -
Haven't read the whole thread, but your knee problem sounds remarkably similar to a problem I have had. Used to have the same dull pain with occasional wild bolts of pain in my right knee. First doctor hadn't a clue, but the knee specialist sorted it out.

The soft stuff on the inside of my knee cap was terribly bruised and uneven and as such caused small swellings inside the knee after training and matches. They fixed that in about 7 minutes, 3 small holes, a camera, a steel thingey and some sort of electric multi tool. Lifted the knee cap, polished the soft(ish) stuff behind the knee cap, closed the holes and 3 weeks later I was sweet as. I still get an occasional stab, but it's not a problem anymore. -
