I might have to get back into the rowing machine Bart, I used to do it regularly at school but not at all since. The machines are always unoccupied at the gym for some reason.

What are the things a beginner has to think about? All about rhythm right, and push off with the knees and let the arms follow?

And what's a good time/distance to aim at first up?
[/quote]

Wander onto the rowing forum, there are some good tips on there about form etc. I need someone to compete with at the beginners end of the scale too, Bart's times are scary.

16/8: A quiet day, was going to go to the gym and do the rowing machines but had to have a meeting with my supervisor instead. Did 50 sit ups and 50 push ups and some wrist exercises.

Left knee very very painful from walking downhill to uni, but went away once I rested it up again.

Breakfast: spaghetti on wholegrain toast
Lunch: 2min noodles
Dinner: chicken and vege pasta, no sauce

Snacking: apple, two toffee pops, some Sakata crackers.

Very good eating day but hot damn I'm hungry!

yes, that the best thing about rowing machines - you can turn up in the busiest times, and there will always be a rower free. Local gym has 5 machines, and they are usually all empty, or a few people coming on and doing a 5 minute warmup before wieghts or something. not many sad bastards jumping on and rowing for half hours!!

It sat up and said hit me...

Sorry.

If Barnyard's dedication to exercise is the equal of his dedication to updating this daily, I think he's in trouble...

I don't know how much of the credit you can take for this MVJ but definitely some; I have gotten three cheeky pashes over the last couple of weekends. One bangin' hottie and the other two more than passable. Whether or not this attributable to my weight loss or just the fact that I am an insatiable sexual predator with charm, looks and a great dress sense is debatable, but I must say that during my morning lustful gaze into the mirror lately I have noticed that my face is getting slimmer.

Breakfast: You're having a laugh.
Lunch: Greaseburger and chips
Dinner: One chicken drumstick, skin removed, pasta and veges.

Exercise: I went on a drunken stagger through Dunedin last night that took about 90mins. All in all a good night's work.
Alcohol consumption: Beer, wine (white and red), champagne, whisky, vodka, tequila, bourbon, rum, in varying amounts.

On the back of some credible medical advice, my mounting thesis workload and due to the utterly ludicrous $35 entry fee, I have decided not to run the HM. I will however continue my fitness program with a view to running one well prepared next year.

May I refer my learned friends to the statement I gave a few pages ago ...
Barnya has a history of setting himself some high risk task, asking for advice, not listening to it and failing miserably (cooking duck anyone?).

I hope this isn't to be a repeat.

Bring us triumph Barnya, not disaster.

The workload you knew about and, from my recollection, posted about in your first post on this thread. The $35 entry fee MvJ would have gladly offset against the $50 you owe me for purchasing dinner with me on the Buy, Sell and Exchange Thread. But you did not solicit assistance.

The credible medical advice (about which you supply no information) may or may not have legs. I will give you the benefit of the doubt seeing as I know you and, whilst I suspect you are a blouse, it takes one to know one.
That is the spirit. We look forward to your daily updates continuing. To assist you I have renamed this thread to more accurately reflect your current intentions now the half marathon is out of the immediate picture. I have also stickied it.

I have to say I'm very disapointed in you Barnya. From what I've read in this thread the running bit shouldn't be a problem. Surely if you can run 8-9 miles without having to get yourself on a transplant list for new lungs, 13 odd miles shouldn't be a problem.

I don't know what medical advice you've been given but I would suggest you seek a second opinion. Anything short of "you might suffer a thousand deaths if you take part in this SM" will just not do mister.

As for your thesis, may I point out that you're a film student? How difficult is it to photocopy a couple of Premiere movie reviews and have them pass as your thesis ffs?

Now, remember why you were doing this in the first place. Keep in mind also that you're desperate and there might be a remote chance of casual sex at the end of this.

Don't tell us what you can't do. Tell us what you will do and feckin do it!

Geez, some bright sparks earlier on in this thread... :coolsmiley:

just do it mate, shove the mdeical advice up the credible arse. As PdP said, if you can run 9 miles, whats 4 more.

I would like to verify that Barnya has got three sneaky pashes from
various women over the last three weeks, two of them back to back
and one of them wearing my shirt which will be subsequently burnt.

I put this down to his commitment and intense training.
I think this is like BartMan's theory on Umanga for the
world Cup - Barnya will do the half marathon but is
telling us he's not going to, as to relieve the pressure
that is mounting upon him.

Personally I believe he is in the best shape I've seen him
and whether he does this thing or not the experience has
been extremely beneficial for him.

(Ps Barnya, don't worry about washing that shirt)
