sorry Daves we've totally derailed the thread!

you make it sound like that never happens, ever...rather than pretty much every thread, ever!

It'd never happen. We should put Hammett in charge, he'll sort us out

I reckon I'm the kind of bog standard average he'd like, so I'll be safe ... you flair posters are f**ked though.

    i also love mid-week schooners

So Korea haven't held the shield. But who is the worst team to have held it?

Only non Tier One teams to have held it are Japan, Samoa, and Romania, so I'll let you decide! Romania took it off Scotland 🙄 Only (so called) Tier One side not to have held it is Italy

If one of the knock matches that has a Raeburn involved, is a draw after 80 mins, does the holder keep it??

It hasn't actually happened in a final yet as both RSA and England held the shield when they went into those matches.

However, extra time means you have a winner of that match so it is no longer and draw and the winning team would take the shield.

In normal matches with no extra time to find a winner the holder keeps the shield in the event if a draw.

I'm being pedantic sorry. Purely out of curiosity. If draw after extra time?

Love some pedantry so no worries there 😁

No such thing as a draw in a RWC knock-out game. A winner would always be found eventually and they would take the shield.

The Raeburn Shield switched hands and belongs to the Boks now.

Started trying to step up some more regular content outside of current matches so been putting out #ONTHISDAY posts on social.

Ultimately would love to get the chance to interview some older ex players about their memories of some of these games. Think it would be really interesting getting some snapshots of experiences from some of these old games.

It's pretty cool looking back at games which would have involved the Shield if it were officially recognised. (Please do like the social pages and spread the word to help out on that front!)

    Here are some examples

I was particularly pleased with this.

It took a fair bit if effort to bring it together but it is a great way to see successful challenges and defences by nation over time.

Yep, it is time to put a face to the Raeburn Shield (even if it is my horrible mug!)

Wanting to drive a bit more interaction and as cringe as I find it that requires me to step up!

The first international mens rugby match was 150 years ago today!

Feel free to show it love in your preferred social channel... (here, or one of the big tech beasts!)

Had hoped to be able to time a visit to Edinburgh for this at one point but as with many things Covid has buggered that. (And the fact today is the due date for our third child!)

    Are the Lions included?

Club / Provincial sides which play touring international teams?

    @mikethesnow

    Good question

    Straight answer is no

Essentially it is only available between nations. Easiest way to think about it is if you could conceivably qualify for a RWC then you can win the Raeburn Shield
