    Yeah right! His Mum doesn't want him hanging out with bad influences <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /><br />

    Not exactly exercise but was up on the roof for a couple of hours last night running some network cable. Lots of lifting concrete tiles and scaffolding and maneuvering my fat carcass into small spaces. Halfway there but the wall cavities are pissing me off :tickedoff:

    Finished the cabling just before Christmas, and it all works! Thank fark 'cos I'm not going back up there in a hurry.<br />
    <br />
    But now there is new impetus for exercise on the horizon. I've been having chest pains. Nothing like heart attack symptoms from what I can tell - in fact the pain is usually not around the centre of my chest and feels a bit like when you bruise your ribs. Not a sharp pain really. I once woke up after a round of golf, having not played for years, and felt like someone was giving me a massive bear hug. Turned out I'd just not twisted my torso like that in years so it was a bit strained. Perhaps its a way I'm sitting?<br />
    <br />
    Anyhoo, the whole chest pain thing got me thinking, and I realise its really time to get repair the bike and get back on it, starting this evening.

    The rooms I need to network have it - once the renovation is finished, I'll be moving a few computers around to the appropriate locations to keep everything out of the way. We'll have a cupboard under the stairs where I keep the server and comms hardware <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

    At the moment I'm doing admin and development work for a bank - its an application that handles all the business rules and processing for domestic and foreign exchange operations. Don't really understand the way the trading works, but the app seems to make sense <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /><br />
    <br />
    Cabling is just something I did because of my last job. Its pretty easy to put the network sockets in, but making the cable ends pisses me off so I buy those pre-fab <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

    Actually the Server is just an old Pentium 3 I nabbed from my old work that runs Linux Redhat 9 - runs it bloody well too! I use it for data backup, web server development and testing, and secure remote access.<br />
    <br />
    If anyone can get through the hardware firewall they hit the Linux box as the next in line. I keep the WinXP machines out of the way as they're just too crappy

    Sounds like a good set up,yeah i guess you dont need a super fast machine to act as a server and back up,im enjoying having this 250 gig external drive,but the internal drive is only 5 gig,and im stuck with only 256 mg of ram...need to get that up more.

    Would love to switch the workstations over to Xubuntu/Kubuntu but Mrs the Aussie needs to run her work VPN under WinXP and I need to run my work VPN over IE6 :tickedoff: I'd look into VMware, but just can't be arsed.<br />
    <br />
    And I didn't get out on the bike last night because I was too farken lazy. So there! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

    OK, first ride in 2 months and I clocked about an hour for 20km. Actually it was slightly longer but I'm compensating for running repairs - I busted yet another spoke on the rear wheel so tomorrow morning I'm going to try and get to a bike shop and get:<br />
    <br />

    • new tyres - currently on MTB knobblies but need to get slicks happening as I don't get off the bike pathway these days.<br />
      <br />
    • new wheels - something bloody strong is on the cards - weight isn't an issue, especially when I'm 115kg and the bike is nearly 13kg! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rolleyes:' /><br />
      <br />
      Price will also be a concern....

    Got a double-wall rear wheel for $145 and two tyres with a bit more roadworthiness than the MTB knobblies @ $40 each. Will take for a test ride tomorrow.

    New tyres are ACE! Heaps grippier than the knobblies so you don't get as much room for error when wobbling around, but go like stink on the straight.<br />
    <br />
    Clocked about 20km in under an hour which was good considering the wind!

    OK, figured out the new route is about 19km and I clocked it in 53 minutes tonight. Knees are a bit sore though...<br />
    <br />
    edit: 20km...

    Jeez my core strength has gone to crap - no wonder I find it so hard to cycle! My abs are so weak I can barely do 10 crunches without hurting like fark! Tonight I did rotation sets to let my muscles know what was going on:<br />
    <br />
    10 pushups - 20 crunches - 20 leg raises - 20 back raises - 10 second ab hover (elbows and toes)<br />
    5 pushups - 20 crunches - 20 leg raises - 20 back raises - 10 second hand-to-knee<br />
    5 pushups<br />
    10 pushups<br />
    <br />
    By the end of it my lower back and abs were killing. But it'll be all for the best. Planning a ride tomorrow night followed by more ab/back work just to get a basic core strength happening...

    OK, today the muscle pain started to kick in around lunch time, and it felt like old times <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rolleyes:' /> Outer chest, abs, triceps, lats, and even deltoids took a pounding last night which shows how REALLY out of shape I am. Tomorrow night I'll set them straight with another muscle workout.<br />
    <br />
    Went for a bike ride tonight after fitting one of those bike computer doo-dads. I only spent $40 on it so got the basics in terms of odometer, trip distance, time of day, speed and maximum speed. On reflection I should have gone the extra $10 for trip time so I didn't have to remember when I started.<br />
    <br />
    As it turns out, it was 20.5km in about 50 minutes - I've discovered that the original route that I thought was 20km was in fact 21km (and a bit) but I'll leave the records as they stand <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':blink:' /> And round down to the nearest whole km anyway :whistle: My maximum speed was 55.7km/h (down a hill that plateaus at 100m and then goes down for about another 300m - its a ripper) which is kind of fun to know.<br />
    <br />
    One thing about the bike computer is it encourages you to push a little more e.g. you look down and see you're going uphill at 19.2 km/h - well why not just nudge that up to over 20km/h? or even 25? I was amazed to learn that I cruise at about 30km/h on the flat - unfortunately there ain't a lot of flat on my current route, and I'm too damn unfit to keep it up for the whole ride <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    No problem there - in the doghouse at the moment. Little Aussie pulled my bike on top of himself while out on the patio this morning. Words were exchanged, feelings were hurt - mostly because she gets shirty when he's upset. Somehow its all my fault despite him never pulling the bike down in my presence. :nta I dare not ask what was happening on the parental supervision side of things <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rolleyes:' />

    Mate it never pays to argue with a woman when it comes to 'their' child getting hurt.When he's naughty he's 'yours'..when hes hurt and upset(soon he'll learn to put on an act for more attention) then he's her little baby and it better not be due to anything remotely to do with you!
