We had no league game this weeekend so we got entered into a draw for a friendly game... ending up with Tring 4's. We won the game comfortably whilst playing shite.

Anyhow, the remarkable thing about the game was how much energy i had. Friday night some of teh boys went out and got absolutely smashed, so i was expecting to feel rough as during the game. In fact, i took a weider shake (full of calories) in the morning and a creatine tablet around 2 hours before and i had probably the best energy levels i have had on a pitch in years. Wierd.

Played on Sat and whooped my old club Fullerians. Was a shite game though.

Aggravated shoulder injury last night and had to stop half way through a chest session (hurt the shoulder in a shoulder sesh at home the night before)

Anyhow, weight has gone up to 14stone 4lbs (or just a smidgen under the 4lb mark) - Have been on the protein shakes for past two weeks and have defo noticed a difference. This is my heaviest ever so am well chuffed, gotta keep it gong over Chrimbo now.

Done quite a bit of gym work/own body weight exercises over Chrimbo and saw the scales tip at 14stone 5lbs. However i am starting to distrust scales as they seem to niot be that accurate (non electronic ones anyway) as a few days later it was down to 14stone 1lb!!!

Going to invest in some decent electronic scales for home.

Haven't posted for a while, but have been keeping as close to my three weights essions a week routine as possible, alomng with Rugby training and game on weekend.

Weight has stabilised now at 14stone 4lbs, can dip below every now and then but tends to stay there.

The definate key to putting on the few extra pounds that i am looking for is i think starting to be a bit more focussed on leg work. We only have 3 more league games left so once completed i will start to dedicate one training session a week to leg weights. My weight gain so far has mainly been from upper body weights, have done no leg work since September/August.

Weight i am looking to be hitting for beginning of April is 14 stone 7lbs, that should be sufficient for a 6 foot one inch outside centre i reckon, the trick in off season is as always balancing fitness work with weight gain work. I am more looking forward to off season than ever before i think.

The current combo of supplements being used is a twice daily cocktail of:

Creatine tablets
Fish Oil tablets
Weider Weight gain shake

Played Mill Hill this weekend and rinsed them on a pitch that was 1 quarter pond.

Weight is 14stone 4lbs, did a chest and arms sesh last Thurs and am seeing consistent gains in terms of curls.

Have decided to change the chest sessions a bit as i am plateuing at the moment, have incorporated more incline exercises in the routine, now a chest sesh will be

Bench
Incline Bench (Smith - so not so good)
Incline Dumbell Press
Incline Dumbell Flys
Dips
Front Raises (Barbell)
Triceps rope pull downs
Bicep Curls

Start my new years resolution of incorporating leg weights now, we have three games left in our league and then the rest of the games are friendlies. However, i am then playing Rugby Leaguie ove rthe summer so i won't have as much chance to bulk during the off season as i wished. So i am starting earlier than anticipated. But.....i farking hate leg weights!!!

I have seriously messed my left shoulder up. Was doing shoulder press a while back and i got an ache from my shoulder down my arm to my elbow. kept me up most of teh night, this week got teh same pain from another shoulder sesh, went to rugby training last night and got the same pain just from trying to push through someone....feels like a stinger but i am not sure.

Have defo got the injury from weights not from rugby.

Anyone have any similar experiences? and know what it might be>?

Or a decent physio. Did something similar by the sounds and got various shoulder/upper back exercises to work through it and is now gone.

Laifd off the weights for a week and teh shoulder feels better.

Played a friendly against a side much much higher in the leagues than us and they right royally pumped us. We had a number of our first choice players missing and fielded a very very weak pack.

After making it through most of teh season un injured i managed in one game to, twist my left ankle, do the same but more severely to my right and best of all (according to our physio) perforate my left ear drum. Did it in a head on tackle, going high on their tight head. Nice ringing noise in my ear afterwards, then silence.

THe right ear now feels like i am up in a plane and haven't equalised the pressure. When i hold my nose and blow out i get a high pitched screech coming from that ear. Off to the doc's in the morning to see what i can do.

Wieghts sesh tonight, first proper gym one after a week away, will see how it goes.

Even for a strawberry blonde like you, that has to be the most bizarre injury I've ever heard of in a tackle. Teach you to interfere with the lawful occasions of the fat boys, so it will!

If you do suspect it's a perforated ear-drum, don't fanny around, get to the quack but fast and get it checked out. Ears are sensitive things, and not to lightly to be fucked around with.

Am off to the doc's in the morning. Physio at the club diagnosed it straight away, and for the rest of the game i couldn't hear a thing. NHS Direct matches the description of the injury and the symptoms. Tells me that it will repair itself within 2 months but will let the doc confirm for me tomorrow.

Got a two month excuse for not responding to the mrs now.

Don't fuck around with it. It'll probably screw you up for flying as well for a good while, but hearing's something worth holding onto.

Of course, if you could only see out of one eye at the moment, you'd have a job waiting for you as a commentator in the morning... <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
Not a massive session (am two weeks away from my last union league table game - from then on i am cutting back on the rugby training and instead getting back up the gym for around 4-5 sessions a week and upping the cardio. Essentially starting on pre-season for the Rugby League season. Am devising a programme and will post in a week or so when i decide what i am doing).

Chest sesh

4 sets bench press (95kg max)
3 sets of Incline Dumbell press (32.5kg max dumbells)
3 sets of 10 dips
3 sets of incline dumbelll flys (17.5kg dumbell max)
3 sets of tricep pull downs (30 kg machine max)
3 sets of bicep curls (45kgs max)

Home then bed.

Went to gym for a chest session last night, got home from work late so bombed up and did a fairly short session. I knew it woudl short so decided to change tack a bit and try and beast out max weights on the exercises i could fit in. Went ok but for one thing, while on the bench press i was perhaps straining a little too much and made my freakin ear drum bleed again. Think i must have undone some of the regeneration i had experienced since i bust it.

BUT i did manage to match my PB on the bench (my weights sesssions have been infrequent due to work commitments lately but in the past two weeks hagve been managing to do something aroudn 4-5 nights a week and am getting back to where i was.

Chest (ish) Session

Bench Press x 4sets - 100kg max
Incline Bench Press x 3 sets - 75kgs max
Dips 10 reps, x 3 sets
Tricep Pull down machine x 3 sets 30kgs max
Bicep Curls x 3 sets - 45kgs max

So let me get this right, you are grunting and straining on the bench press while blood is coming out of your ear? Must have been a great sight in the gym!

Didn't the doctor say not to do any strenuous exercise while your ear repaired? Or is it all guns blazing?

Keep getting it checked out, you don't want it to get infected.

Well it wasn't pissing out, but i could feel fluid in there immediately post (and the sounds coming into ear changed etc...) checked it out and the bugger was bleeding. I went to National Ear Nose and Throat last week and they confirmed that the ear drum was burst. The Doc said i could continue to play rugby etc... the main thing i that i musn't get it wet (have to pack it full of cotton wool when i shower etc...) also in game i must pack with cotton wool and wear a scrum cap to stop stuff going down it.

I have a course of antibiotics i am supposed to stay on to mak sure that it doesn't get infected, and have to go back to the docs in 6 weeks time. If there is no improvement then they consider an op but i don't think it will be needed.

With regard to the weights, he didn't say i couldn't but i think what i have done is maybe strained too much and kind of broken a covering on the damage that had been done. Will maybe lay off pushing for a couple of days to let it heal a bit more.
