Even for a strawberry blonde like you, that has to be the most bizarre injury I've ever heard of in a tackle. Teach you to interfere with the lawful occasions of the fat boys, so it will!

If you do suspect it's a perforated ear-drum, don't fanny around, get to the quack but fast and get it checked out. Ears are sensitive things, and not to lightly to be fucked around with.

Am off to the doc's in the morning. Physio at the club diagnosed it straight away, and for the rest of the game i couldn't hear a thing. NHS Direct matches the description of the injury and the symptoms. Tells me that it will repair itself within 2 months but will let the doc confirm for me tomorrow.

Got a two month excuse for not responding to the mrs now.

Lovely. So now the inside of your head is bright red as well...? <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Don't fuck around with it. It'll probably screw you up for flying as well for a good while, but hearing's something worth holding onto.

Of course, if you could only see out of one eye at the moment, you'd have a job waiting for you as a commentator in the morning... <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Chest Session last night (on my upper weights the ear felt like it would explode!!)

Not a massive session (am two weeks away from my last union league table game - from then on i am cutting back on the rugby training and instead getting back up the gym for around 4-5 sessions a week and upping the cardio. Essentially starting on pre-season for the Rugby League season. Am devising a programme and will post in a week or so when i decide what i am doing).

Chest sesh

4 sets bench press (95kg max)
3 sets of Incline Dumbell press (32.5kg max dumbells)
3 sets of 10 dips
3 sets of incline dumbelll flys (17.5kg dumbell max)
3 sets of tricep pull downs (30 kg machine max)
3 sets of bicep curls (45kgs max)

Home then bed.

Went to gym for a chest session last night, got home from work late so bombed up and did a fairly short session. I knew it woudl short so decided to change tack a bit and try and beast out max weights on the exercises i could fit in. Went ok but for one thing, while on the bench press i was perhaps straining a little too much and made my freakin ear drum bleed again. Think i must have undone some of the regeneration i had experienced since i bust it.

BUT i did manage to match my PB on the bench (my weights sesssions have been infrequent due to work commitments lately but in the past two weeks hagve been managing to do something aroudn 4-5 nights a week and am getting back to where i was.

Chest (ish) Session

Bench Press x 4sets - 100kg max
Incline Bench Press x 3 sets - 75kgs max
Dips 10 reps, x 3 sets
Tricep Pull down machine x 3 sets 30kgs max
Bicep Curls x 3 sets - 45kgs max

So let me get this right, you are grunting and straining on the bench press while blood is coming out of your ear? Must have been a great sight in the gym!

Didn't the doctor say not to do any strenuous exercise while your ear repaired? Or is it all guns blazing?

Keep getting it checked out, you don't want it to get infected.

Well it wasn't pissing out, but i could feel fluid in there immediately post (and the sounds coming into ear changed etc...) checked it out and the bugger was bleeding. I went to National Ear Nose and Throat last week and they confirmed that the ear drum was burst. The Doc said i could continue to play rugby etc... the main thing i that i musn't get it wet (have to pack it full of cotton wool when i shower etc...) also in game i must pack with cotton wool and wear a scrum cap to stop stuff going down it.

I have a course of antibiotics i am supposed to stay on to mak sure that it doesn't get infected, and have to go back to the docs in 6 weeks time. If there is no improvement then they consider an op but i don't think it will be needed.

With regard to the weights, he didn't say i couldn't but i think what i have done is maybe strained too much and kind of broken a covering on the damage that had been done. Will maybe lay off pushing for a couple of days to let it heal a bit more.

PB in a very short shoulder sesh last night at home.

Shoulder Pressed 62.5kgs and 65kgs barbell shoulder press (French press).

Plus PB on Bicep barbell curl of 50kgs - only managed 3 reps.

No burst ear drum either. Which is nice.

Good chest session last night - interestingly i have had an ankle injury these past two and half weeks so have been unable to play/train, this has freed up more time or weights etc.....in that time i have posted PBs in every body area that i can lift with at the moment (excluding legs - due to ankles) and according to the gym scales last night (the ones i have been using since starting this thread) am now up to 14 stone 7 pounds (wearing trainers, t, and shorts) which is what i was after.

Chest session last night:

Bench Press x 4 sets max 100kgs
Incline Press (Smith) x 2 sets 80kgs (PB)
Dips x 3 (8 reps)
Incline Dumbell Press x 3 sets 30kg dumbells
Tricep rope Pull downs x 3 sets 40kgs (PB)

Happy with how it is all going at the moment.

Second week now of supesets, did a chest one last night, today i am absolutely wrecked.

Superset was again:

Bench press/Dumbell flys x 4
Incline Smith Bench/Incline dumbell press x 4
Dips 3 sets
Sitting, inclined dumbell curls/standing barbell curls x4

100 sit ups

Chest is in half

Going to stop after the final superset session of this week and revert back to straight lifting to see if we have made any strength gains. Then continue to mix it up.

Defo felt some gains by doing it though.
