Fatbastarding: NTA log
-
Truly, there is no word better than:

fluffybunnies.

The fluffybunnies, that is, who stole my bike from the train station, where I left it reasonably secure, chained to the immovable post of a bust stop. Obviously, no length of steel cable is unbreakable, no lock ultimately secure, for persons who wish to steal a bike. I suspect they broke the lock as I could find no part of the cable there at all, not even a sign that someone had taken the bolt cutters to it. Though solidly constructed, t wasn't a particularly big lock, being designed only to deter the casual passer-by who thought they'd help themselves to my bike.

In one way, its not really that expensive a bike, and for a $400 base cost I suppose I got my money out of it. What shits me is the $200 I recently spent on a strengthened rear wheel and two new tyres to replace the original knobblies, and the tubes I bought just last weekend in anticipation of getting myself underway with exercise this very night.

Fuck I'm angry.

Next step: Put a call in to the local bike shops and pawn brokers to be on the lookout for my bike. For you see, I have the Serial number of the frame, and should any little fucker try to off it for cash or trade, I will bring them down. To guarantee success, I am preparing a flyer run around said train station and local environs, promising that whomsoever has done unto me will have done unto them with double measure.

The fluffybunnies. -

FluffyBunnys.

Now use that pent up aggression you have and go do some excercise. A nice long ride perhaps.

ohhh...

sorry...

how about a walk?
Nod, that was obscene and nasty! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Commiserations on the loss of said bike Nicko. Won't the thieving fluffybunnies be able to grind off the serial no. or some shit? I suspect you should start planning for a newie, at any rate. -
On examination of the site in daylight, it appears they undid the cable clamps I was using to secure the padlock loops. Indicates they had some time to achieve the theft as those little fuckers were done up tight! Further investigation of the site indicates they may have been drinking looking at the number of VB stubbies lying around.

virgil - the excess is more than the bike's original RRP, and probably equal to its current value even with the new parts.

Noddy - if you weren't such a weedy little bastard these days I'd come up there and nut you! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Yes if they're smart they probably will grind it off. If they're even smarter they'll change the wheels and tyres over with other bikes they own/steal, as its a 21-speed and therefore a pretty common setup.

The most fucked thing about it is - if I catch them in possession of a bike with my frame and the numbers ground off, I have no recourse. If I gave them the thrashing they surely deserve, then I get done for an assault charge.

A mate of mine rang this morning and was loud enough down the phone for Mrs TA to hear the words "new bike then?". Brows were furrowed, heads were shaken. Unlikely to get a new bike out of this all things considered. If I did, it would be a bit more upmarket than the old one and I sure as shit wouldn't be leaving it in public. But that too is unlikely.

I'll file a police report - for all the good it'll do. That way if it turns up at a pawn broker something might happen. Local bike shops will have the details shortly by fax. Short of donning the black jumpsuit and balaclava, and sneaking around the backyards of the entire suburb, there is really not much else but to keep an eye out. -
Its all you can do really, file a report get in touch with local pawn shops etc, a long shot but better than doing nothing <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Would you consider getting sumthing else to use a fitness aid? -
I had something else as a fitness aid. Now she's pregnant :nta

I think its back to pulling on the footy boots and going for sprints/jogging around the local oval. I should pull my finger out go back to either touch or fulltime rugby. I've found a couple of clubs I could go to training with after work, and while it might result in the odd injury it would bring my fitness up quick smart... -

If I where you (and had the space) I'd consider buying a Concept2 rower. -
Top idea, but at over $2K here in Oz is less likely to happen than the bike ... Mrs TA is looking at quarter three this calendar year with great trepidation, once Little Aussie #2 shows up <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I'll have enough trouble adding 1Gb of RAM to my notebook as it is :nta
-
On what price your health Nick? (Try that one <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> )
-
Walking my way to health has an excellent price when Mrs TA is planning finances for the next addition to the family <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Damn her and her business managerisms.

Into the last stages of shaking a phlegm-based illness, so I decided to go for a run/walk tonight. Covered about 2km and coughed up a heap of chunky yellow crap. Followed it up with some pushups and crunches when I got home. Running sucks - I'm rolling my right heel in for some reason. Might see a chiropractor about my "alignment". Worked wonders for Little Aussie...
good weight loss NTA!!! How much do you reckon?? A kilo or two?

To be a little crude, that's what I think at the moment whenever I use the lou. "That's more calories flushed away!" -
Yep same!, best thing for weight loss, catch some stomach bug and spend a week on the toilet, or puke it up <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -
OK, after a "discussion" with Mrs TA over family time**, I'm planning to go to rugby training tonight :shifty: I have to leave work a bit early to make it but at this stage will commit only to training nights (i.e. live tackle bag) and helping out at the games.

**Getting a full Saturday afternoon off is a difficult request to make of a pregnant woman with a toddler I've found... Consequences have been outlined. Subtle threats have been made... -
With the blessing grudging acceptance of the Minister for Finance and Entertainment, I went to training tonight with the local side. Good workout and I'm starting to cough up crap out of my lungs as they contract in the cold night air. Always a good sign <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Lots of Kiwis playing for the team, which is unsurprising when you look at the demographic of my surrounding suburbs <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> One big bloke in particular plays 8 for the firsts, he's wiry as, and bloody fast! No wonder he's got so many tries (current leading try- and points-scorer).... He also runs some of the coaching - I was holding the tackle bag when he was doing a demo, and I'm certainly glad he's on my side :shifty:

Warmed up with a game of touch footy (no tries for yours truly <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />), then a discussion by the president (a former Fijian international) and team manager about the performance last week. :shifty: Apparently there were three yellow cards and one red card awarded against the team, and the president wasn't too pleased, pointing out the fact that the club cops fines when red cards are handed out, and that if too many happen then the club committee have to front the judiciary panel to justify the club's ongoing existence etc. etc. The ref said after the game he was very close to calling it off!! And I know for a fact that MvJ has called off a game due to violence.

Side note: the Suburban Rugby Union in Sydney is one of the largest centrally administered competitions going, with 6 divisions. Your division is essentially based on the number of teams you can field rather than your skill level, but winning teams attract winning players and generally have more money as a result. While the top two or three divisions churn out some fairly competitive rugby, the lower divisions still have a very bad reputation. The SRU is trying to crack down on this to clean up the image of the lower divisions (one of them is crudely referred to as "the coconut cup") to present a better image of the game and arrest a minor downturn in playing numbers (despite the ARU's assurances that the game is growing - it might be elsewhere...).

The bloke who copped the red came forward and apologised, which was not expected of him, and everyone was appreciative.

Anyhoo, that was followed by a bit of one-on-one wrestling and then some quick tag sprints to wake us up. Then crossovers with a few variations, where I managed to get the ball out in front of everyone well and not drop it. Then tackle practice - which was more about technique than full contact, but after the First XV 8th man used me as a demo a couple of times, I was thinking about what a good idea my mouthguard would be, while trying not to bite my own tongue off <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I hit the bag OK, but I get the feeling I'm arching a little on contact and not getting low enough - me poor old back! While holding the bag later, I noticed a lot of the bigger blokes were aiming around the collarbone from the start which is not a good sign for a club with a few cards under their belt :nta The backs at least were going for the legs or the waist...

Next training is Thursday, which I've informed Mrs TA of and received a very blank expression by way of return. :nta Not sure if that's a good thing. I gave her a foot massage to smooth things over, but she's as enigmatic as the next female....

Both our grades are undefeated at this point, but we're going up against the other undefeated club this weekend (they're ahead of bonus points but the club championship is all tied up after three rounds). I reckon I'll have to play because they look a little short on numbers for 2nd grade, so a bench spot seems likely. When I was introduced to the seconds coach before training he got a brief rundown on my playing history, including the league and aussie rules stuff then asked if I'd like to play halfback <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> So I guess they're short of backs replacements in 2nd grade... I assume he means 9 and not 10 :nta

Finished the night off with another game of touch. Again no tries. Sore legs - crampy calf muscles at the end which I should get some magnesium into me... Had a protein shake when I got home, now its time for bed....

Feeling a damn sight fitter already to be honest. The coughing up lungs thing is annoying but sleep will fix that. Tomorrow I might do some weight exercises at home to up the core strength....
