    @Snowy @antipodean

    To clarify.

20 years ago the Fergburger bun was the size of a dinner plate so it had that as a point of difference and was a gourmet burger although nowhere near the best burger I'd ever eaten. The hype then was the size.

The ones I saw people eating yesterday were not much bigger than a big mac so have lots the size point of difference.

I cannot comment on the flavour as there is no way I would queue to buy one when I could shop for ingredients and cook my own in less time than I would spend waiting to purchase one.

@dogmeat So size does matter. There's a common saying there somewhere...

I didn't queue either, looked out the window and went and got one when it was quiet. It was good though. Somewhere between dinner plate size and Big Mac. Definitely not brioche buns.

Hot sweet buns are good but not for a burger.

@Snowy There are very few things I will queue for. Get on a plane, into / out of a sports event / concert.

    That's about it.

Definitely not a burger. Especially if it's served in a cake!

IN fact, the best burger I tend to eat these days are the ones made at home.

Yep. Bet you don't use brioche though.

we make our homemade brioche for the buns. It's just awesome

Burgers are very much the thing at the moment. There is a proliferation of "gourmet" burger joints in Cairns. All varying degrees of quality.

I like a good burger. And i am very basic in what i like, pretty much just get their basic offering with cheese. But i often struggle to finish them as places like to make them as rich as possible.

    Plus i really like chips.

There's a place in Airlie Beach that is as good as any i have had anywhere.

@dogmeat love me a burger and I last had one about 3 years ago, they're bloody good.

Also a fan of a good brioche burger, which is odd for me as I usually hate sweet with the meat, but a good dirty burger in a brioche works great.

Britain is generally crap at burgers, but the Byron chain over here is usually pretty decent.

Between this thread and the Jugged Hare, and St John being mentioned in another thread... I've had some serious London-restaurant withdrawal today.
And the best I could do, was head to Leuven... fucking Leuven.
For a burger, of course. Beer-soaked/marinated chicken in in ciabatta, with some bacon. Rather good, actually.

They seem to have disappeared off Google Maps... although I'm sure I got an email from them a little while ago saying they were re-opening after (one of) UK's lockdowns... with half the table capacity (the tables are pretty tightly jammed in the main dining area).
I was on their mailing list - as I'd been to a few of their "special event nights" - degustacion type meals with matched wines down in their cellar/function-room... there was always one for the first game of the game season, Burn's night, etc. Well worth it.

@Kruse I’m pretty sure it’s still there but I don’t think they have their own signage anymore. The people who own the Chiswell St Dining Room next door own the Hare too, and from memory the whole of that side of the street is branded as the Chiswell Street Dining Room. I went there about a year ago and walked past it several times before phoning them and a waitress came out and got us. Weird. Nice food though.

What is that about? Basically serving salad and meat in a donought. Bloody gross.

    Love a good burger though.

Few days late for this but brioche is not fucking doughnut! You'll wind up in your basement at this rate.
