@yeetyaah how the hell do the Canes as an organisation think they are going to increase bums on seats with signings like this?

I'd just like to say what a massive disappointment Avan Lee has been leading the Hurricanes from the top, he's always promised so much but he's fallen well short of the mark over the last four years.

Since Beaudy left, the only good signing we've had from outside our catchment has been Tyrel Lomax.

I think a big reason why Julz keeps getting a contract is that his old mate Cory Jane probably keeps putting in the good word during selection meetings. I can't see any other reason you would sign him for another two years.

Either that or they're scared about Ardie being unhappy and leaving

Or they are scared about Fatima hitting social media if his contract is not extended

Well if there is ever a reason to lose faith in a coaching team this is it

Trio Extend Their Time at Hurricanes

Trio Extend Their Time at Hurricanes
Why oh why I understand Scranton but REALLY!

Hurricanes head coach Jason Holland emphasised the importance of locking in experienced players as the Super Rugby format continues to develop into the future.

Holland said “All three players have shown just what it means to them to play for the Hurricanes and they continue to make a significant impact on our club.”

“Our coaching group knows the importance of having good leaders in the mix to help bring the next crop of quality Hurricanes players through, so we’re delighted these players have shown their desire to continue with us.”

No doubt they have plenty of desire to continue at the Hurricanes as their home areas did not want them (J Savea now being resident in Auckland). It is also so reassuring that they continue to show such splendid leadership in the face of adversity. Imaging how downcast the younger and better players would get without this leadership. Imaging how bad the 'Canes lineout would be without them. In fact we would probably be lucky to win a single lineout without this experienced leadership group. Last week was a shining example of what could have happened without them.
The younger brigade would probably have mistakenly taken the wind going into extra time last week if it wasn't for the wise counsel of the leadership within the team. Imaging the embarrassment of losing after starting with that advantage.

Love it ...have you thought about a political career in spin 🤔

@mikey07 Yep. Didn't Ardie also "threaten" to go to the dark side (league), last year? Keeping Jules is probably about not losing Ardie.

@stargazer threaten is probably a little strong, he was asked in a podcast if he would ever consider playing in the NRL and he said 100%, didn’t mean he would actually ever do it. Then obviously the media got wind of it and then blew it out of proportion.

Where did this whole Perenara rumour start anyway, it’s probably just another media storm with not much else going on at the moment.

@canes4life I wouldn't surprise me if this TJP rumour was started by his agent. It's contract negotiation time.

It's was from Ozzie, from a league reporter. Doesn't mean you're wrong

    Playing club rugby tomorrow (17/4/2021):

    Wellington
    Alex Fidow - Ories
    Pepesana Patafilo - Tawa
    Vaea Fifita - Wellington

    Hawke's Bay
    Danny Toala - Hastings

    probably also:
    Lolagi Visinia - Clive
    Pouri Rakete-Stones - Napier Pirate

    Manawatu
    Brayden Iose - Kia Toa
    Liam Mitchell - Te Kawau

I didn't see Selesi Rayasi and Vince Aso on any (Wellington or Auckland) team list, but maybe I've just missed it.

Not all provinces publish team lists, unfortunately, or they publish them late.

I was just checking the Canes result from last year. They lost 2 then won 5 then lost 1. This year it has fallen apart.

I guess a big part of the decline is the loss of Perenara and JGB. Although the starting HB has done well enough. And maybe luck not being on their side this year.

@stargazer great news to start the Monday. Looks like we will have a one two punch of Coles and Aumua for a wee while yet.

@canes4life I wonder whether they posted this by accident (scheduled at the wrong time?). The tweet links to an article on the allblacks . com website that isn't "live" yet.

Btw, the media were wrong again with their rumours that Coles would retire from rugby, at the end of this year. Unless, he plans to retire from international rugby, it's clear he and NZR think he's still got two seasons in him.

@stargazer I think he’s still got a couple years in him, maybe not at international level but most definitely at Super the backup to Aumua. He will be quality coming off the bench in the last 25 mins of every game.

The media didn't get it wrong at all, he was openly discussing whether this was the end.

"My last year coming up with the Canes. I haven't completely ruled out staying on, but I've just got to appreciate it this year," he said.

That's pretty ambiguous, and the media reported itt as"hints at retirement", which it is. Could also be hints at going elsewhere, but was a reasonable supposition.

Too me he's on fine form, and I love how athletes are able to keep going longer if they wish

@canes4life It will be interesting to see how this affects Riccitelli's decisions about where to play in the next few years, and more importantly, a young player like Tyrone Thompson. He may start to look somewhere else now.

And how does this affect the negotiations with TJP? He's 5 years younger than Coles, so unless TJP is asking for an exorbitant salary you couldn't really justify signing Coles and J Savea at their age but not TJP.

@stargazer Not seeing Thompson and Zarn Sullivan in SRA this year has been so disappointing. Thompson in particular should really consider another franchise. I think he's good enough to be in the Blues 23.

@akan004 I think the Blues have plenty of depth with Eklund, Tolai, Vikena and Apisai. They probably need a player like Thompson the least of all franchises other than the Hurricanes.

Highlanders have Dixon, Coltman, Jackson; not sure who's below that.

Chiefs have Harris, Taukei'aho, Slater ...; again, I don't know who would be next in line.

Crusaders have Taylor, McAlister .... and Nathan Vella covering for Makalio. The other Canterbury & Ta$man hookers are definitely not of Thompson's calibre.

    So, definitely, not the Blues.

@stargazer yeah Riccitelli might move on but for someone like Tyrone, I think it will be beneficial for him to stay at the Canes to learn off the likes of Coles. We’ve got a habit of turning hookers into All Blacks, plus that one two punch of Aumua and Thompson down the track looks fairly tantalising.

@canes4life I agree, but if Riccitelli stays, he'll still be the 5th hooker, because - at this stage - he's also behind O'Reilly.
