That was a very close game. Wellington almost snatched the JJ Stewart Trophy (the - ugly - women's Ranfurly Shield) from Canterbury, but ill-discipline cost them. Both locks in the bin at the end of the game when leading 22 - 18, and Canterbury crash over after a line-out maul.
Full time: Canterbury 23 - 22 Wellington.

@stargazer Is there promotion/relegation now they are back to the two divisions?
Otago were last to step up then lost half their players. Looks like they are now in the wrong division. They have competed OK at times but have been 'out-sized' especially when up against the 'big city' teams. -
@crucial Yes, if they keep the Premiership/Championship format after this year, there will be promotion/relegation again. Last year, was just a big mistake with their North/South pools.
It's always hard - in both FPC and NPC - for newly promoted teams to stay up in the Premiership, but yeah, Otago lost a lot of players. But just like Manawatu (who got relegated), they also gain players from other provinces because of their university.
Both Counties and Otago had a player in their squad, who played for us, last year. North Harbour, too. And these were among our better players.

Had to Google wtf the White ferns are. Jesus there is no imagination in the lame names of NZ teams. Really I'm not a fan of any name unless it comes organically, all blacks for example

ROSIE'S RUGBY: âDream big, keep grinding and remember that a coach is only one personâs opinion on you and doesnât define who you are as a personâ is the message Canterbury No 10 Rosie Kelly has for all aspiring rugby players.
Kelly made her Farah Palmer Cup début for Canterbury in 2017, coming off the bench at halfback against Manawatƫ.
Canterbury went on to win the FPC that season before Kelly headed south to Otago for three years.
She played in the blue and gold strip on 20 occasions scoring 192 points before heading back to Canterbury in 2021.
âI have been a full-time student for the last four years studying Physio while pursuing my rugby dreams and made a lot of sacrifices,â says 21-year-old Kelly.
âFor me, the red and black jersey is where it all started! In the three years Iâve been away down in Otago, the girls up here have created an environment like no other.
âI feel privileged every time I put on the jersey. My best friends are in the team. Weâre not just teammates - weâre sisters and I love every minute on and off the field.â
Kelly first played rugby at age four when she played for Hokitika on the West Coast.
Since then she has played for West Coastâs Wests Rugby Club, Christchurch Girlsâ High School, Otago University and High School Old Boys in Christchurch.
âMy inspiration growing up was Ruby Tui, she also is from the West Coast. I admire her hard work and determination. Sheâs sacrificed a lot and is proud of where sheâs come from,â says Kelly.
âI was lucky enough to play with her in Canterbury Sevens when I was 16 at nationals, as well as train with her in the Black Ferns Sevens environment.â
Another inspiration for Kelly is her parents, who show up to every game, no matter the distance.
Her career highlights to date were being a part of the New Zealand Barbarians side that only just lost to the Black Ferns in 2020 and playing for the New Zealand Development XV at the 2019 Oceania Rugby Womenâs Championship in Fiji.
âMy dream is to be in the Black Ferns team, I would love to be someone that people look up to, showing determination and work ethic.â -
Interesting to see that they're doing something in the FPC, what they're not doing in the NPC (yet): cancelling games and declaring these games a draw. I can only assume that's because they cannot play catch-up games because of the Black Ferns end-of-year tour.

The Bunnings Warehouse NPC and Farah Palmer Cup (FPC) will continue without Counties Manukau, Auckland and North Harbour for the next two weeks, New Zealand Rugby (NZR) has announced today.

@bovidae Yep, if the expected Waikato v Auckland semi also can't be played, Waikato may end up in the final without playing for weeks, while Canterbury has played a pool game against Otago and a semi against - most likely - Wellington.
Northland doesn't have much to fear from the Tui in the semi though. It will be a good warm-up game for the final against Manawatu.
