Nz win 30-10 mason Emerson was very good and fidow made a huge impact off the bench. Set piece is a big worry though

Barrett was steady aswell. He is bloody tall for a back. May have been the camera angle though but he looked as if he was the same height as some of the locks running around.

Cheers, guys. Hopefully some of the other lads such as Mason Kean and Paranihi can bring a bit of power with them to the scrum. A few of the guys there are a year younger, so are likely still developing there (Aumua, Rakete-Stones, Fidow), so it is all a good experience!

A bit scratchy but not a bad game overall I thought. The skill level and execution just seemed a standard above the Aussies. Kicking from hand was pretty good.

He looks a genuine 6'2 to me....

Jordie could be a future Crusader.

Umaga jenson did nothing! Was disappointed with him after hearing so many people say how awesome he is.

A few players looked solid, but outside of maybe Fidow(I say maybe, because of questionable scrummaging), no one was exceptional.

They were clearly the better team out there, but it wasn't a great performance at all. The setpiece needs plenty of work, as does the attack. There were spurts of good attack, but the attack was not sharp for the most part. The defense and the pressure at the breakdown were the good points of the team's performance.

For the Aussies, they sort of looked void of talent and ideas on attack. They kind of just looked like the Western Force with a really strong scrum. Their halves were embarrassingly bad.

He went off with a leg injury early in the second half and may not play again for a wee while. Had a quiet game by his standards. Hopefully he can show his worth moving forward.

Im not sure why Malo Tuitama (Hurricanes) and Jordan Trainer (Blues) weren't out there. Maybe they are saving the best side for Saturday?

Trainor is out injured. It's only a short term injury, so he'll be back well before the JWC.

Not seen anything about Tuitama though.

There have been plenty of wraps coming out of the bay for Mason Kean labelling him as the best prop out of school in the area since Ben Tameifuna. Hes been training with the Hurricanes recently so as a Canes fan has anyone seen much of this kid. He looks like another Franks-esque type player.

Is that the same Tuitama from the Auckland 1st XV comp? Or is this another player from the Tuitama clan?

Malo Tuitama. Played for Scots College when they drew with Hamilton to win the National Schools title in 2014. Played a few games for the Wellington lions and was in the Canes environment when they did the Pre Season show earlier this year on Sky.

After easing to victory over Australia in the first match of the Oceania Under 20 Championship, New Zealand Under 20 coach Scott Robertson has made seven changes to the side facing the Australians in the second and final match on the Gold Coast tomorrow.

    The team is:

1 Shaun Stodart
2 Leni Apisai, captain
3 Alex Fidow

“We brought 30 players over so wanted to give everyone a run ahead of the World Championships in June. We have a lot of young players in the side, so it’s a great chance to expose them at this level,” Robertson said.

Robertson said he was impressed by the resolve of his side in the 30-10 win at Bond University on Tuesday.

“I’m really stoked with the young fellas and how they have connected as a group. They’ve bonded on and off the field, and it showed when it got tough that they are willing to dig in for each other.

“It’s something for us to build on. We have six players due to come back from Super Rugby as well so we are building some great depth at this level.”

With the opening game in the balance until just after halftime, Robertson said it was the bench that made a big impact.

“Alex Fidow was a wrecking ball and really opened up some holes in the Australian defence. He gets a crack in the number three jersey this week.”

Southland’s Shaun Stodart also comes in at loosehead prop to join Captain Leni Apisai in a new-look front row.

“We’ve had a few things to work on throughout the week. Our execution really let us down at times during the first match so we want to be more clinical tomorrow,” Apisai said.

Another feature of the side is the talented Jordie Barrett at second-five. The brother of All Blacks utility Beauden Barrett starred in game one with 15 points and will be partnered by Orbyn Leger on his inside.

I was hoping Peter Umaga-Jenson would play at centre so we could see if he goes any better there. It should be interesting, though. Good to see Fidow, Papali'i and Tuitama are getting starts.

Peter Umaga Jensen was injured in the first game so ruled out for Saturday. Not sure of the extent of his injury but I hope he will be ready for the junior World Cup.

Mason Emerson had a great game on Wednesday. At first glance, it seems a bit odd that he's named on the bench instead of the starting line-up, but I guess they already know how good he is and they want to see more of the other outside backs.

Interesting to see Lowe on the left wing. Not sure what his preferred position is, but he never played there for the Magpies.

Oh, right. Fair enough, then. I'm sure we'll see more of him at some point, then. If not this year, then the next.

I think Jonah Lowe is a centre? Just shows how good this team is that he struggles to get a start there.
