@dan54 genuine question - what game plan have you observed from the Canes the first few weeks?

week 1 if the plan was to kick the ball to Jordan, and try and beat the Saders up front, they sure did follow it well. Not a very good plan though.

When they gave that away we were much more threatening

week 2 I thought the Blues controlled the ball for the most part, so didn't give us much of a chance to play with it. When we did have it, we were deadly

So I take it you against Love playing at 10 as he was the one doing a lot of the kicking to Jordan? Genuine question does anyone think players are sent out and told to kick down a 15's throat?
I wouldn't of started Savea over PUJ at 12 either, but he didn't do too bad, and I would say same with starting him over Goosen, but I not privy to what is happening at training and what the plans are.
As for Ardie at 7, I like him there , but as an 8 he was good enough to be picked in WR's team of the year last year, and he's the starter for at 8 for ABs so think he gets probably first choice there. And this is someone who has been singing Iose's praises on here for last couple of seasons (not only after last weeks game). I think he may just have to be bench player until Ardie needs a break, which he will with how he plays. I actually thought Gibson was ok at 7 last week, and Kirifi is someone I think is pretty ok, not sure of number of penalties he gives away compared to other 7s, I just notice hic because he is who I swear at in my team!

Delany is 1.94. Blackwell 1.90. 2 short locks. Even so will be good to see how Delany goes. Don't really rate him (too short for a great lock and too slow for a 6)

It seems now that if Blackwell, Proctor, Julian and Prinsep are fit 9/10 they will start. Even playing out of position. There is the odd exception like week 1 (Prinsep didn't start). I don't see Proctor as a 2nd 5 but still. They won last week so will give Holland some leeway. But I thought this was one game where the Canes would start as favourites but not now

Maybe Im wrong again though. As I was last week when I saw the team

Losing Sangster is significant, but surely the Canes are still strong favourites this week. I would certainly have Iose starting, but don't see too much else to worry about. I am surprised no comment on the error rate of the Canes front rowers last week. e.g. Aumua was loose in contact. Less pressure on them this week, so you might get better results from the starters on the back of less errors.

@crucial we're not saying to pick the exact same 15 each week, but Holland has favourites, and unfortunately, they're not very good - yet he goes with them week in and week out

Play guys like Princep against the Force, not in the top 15

He also never settles on key positions, the halves & midfield change each week

One comment that always makes me smile a bit is when we say a coach has his favourites so they keep picking them. It is true of course I did it when I coached as favouriet players in my team were the ones I thought would help my team win. read what Henry and Hansen etc say about Richie McCaw, definitely their favourite player, same as what they say about the Read, Smith etc etc.
Of course a coach picks his favourite players, they the ones he think will make his job easier.

@dan54 come on bro. Of course Richie McCaw is a favourite player lol. What an odd example

Of course you pick your favourite players. What most of us have an issue with is these favourite players aren't very good.

His favourites aren't winning anything, that is what we're critical of

You seem to be okay with it. Why? Do you want the Canes to win the comp?

Your post above tends to show you align with what we're saying re: selections - and I agree that Love made poor choices at the start of the game

either way, a Love kicking the ball down the middle of the park is better than JGB

What's your first choice 23 Dan54? Assume we're playing the Saders so need our top team.

@dan54 the problem I have with PUJ is they always drop him and never give him a run.

I was a Kirifi fan (I remember him killing Wainui in the final for Norths a few years back) but he gives away too many penalties.

You don’t bring that final up to the lone Wainui fan in this group.

Not really sure what my starting 23 would be, as I said I not sure what the intention would be against Crusaders, and I found when I coached my selections changed on how trainings etc went.
Generally of who seems fit at moment I would go, front row basically as is, locks well of fit ones there only Sangster and Blackwell, I haven't seen anything of Delaney ( would have Scrafton and maybe Bird if they both were playing at top of their games. Loosies I a fan of Flanders at 6, Kirifi or Gibson 7 (would love to see Iose tried there) and Ardie at 8.
Backs would be I think Booth )TJ injured) Love, not sure betwen Proctor or PUJ at 12 (PUJ struggles to get start in the Lions) Sullivan at 13 (wouldn't of guessed that a ew weeks back, and Ryasi (after last week), Goosen and JB at 15. But have to say not a huge amount between Goosen and Juian on wing.
On bench I would have basically whoever is left over from last weeks 23, JGB I think stays there ahead of Morgan who I not sure is even fit anyway.

But I not trying to wind you up when I say coaches always pick their favourites, same as we do on the internet, and I think they have a shit load more knowledge than us on who the favourites should be. If you or I say someone should be in team and he doesn't play well, we don't answer to anyone and noone will even remember who we reckoned was the better player.

Late to this but how the fuck does Liam Coombes-Fabling go from Chiefs wider training to starting for the Landers in less than a month? Hopefully he's not lost to the Landers for good.

@yeetyaah thats what i was getting at, we have two out and out wingers (plus alaimalo) that are uninjured as far as i know plus someone like koroi

doesn't say a lot for our recruitment if someone from the chiefs WTG is seen as better than them

I've just seen Prinsep and Proctor compared to McCaw.

I don't even care about the result of the game anymore, that's the winner for me.

@yeetyaah I'd imagine the Hurricanes will try and get the likes of Sullivan, Rayasi and Savea down his channel as much as possible on Saturday night. He looks tiny.

He's not a bad player actually canes, I thought he looked fairly handy in NPC, and don't recall him getting run over by anyone. he may of got knocked about a couple of times but I surely don't recall ever thinking he couldn't handle himself.

There’s way too much chopping and changing. It’s obvious to the fans who should be starting so why can’t Holland see it.

    Iose over Kirifi
    Flanders over Prinsep
    Goosen over Savea
    Umaga-Jensen over Proctor

    Ffs it’s not rocket science.

Yeah, too much bloody musical chairs stuff going on, when it's very early in the season we need to be sticking with our best team so we can get some continuity & flow going... agree what you're saying about Prinsep, J.Savea & Proctor, but I'd have Kirifi over Lose.

We need to get the right combo's in there like :
    Locks : Scrafton/Sangster
    Loosies : Flanders/Kirifi/Savea
    9 & 10 : Judd/Love
    Midfield : Umaga-Jensen/Sullivan
    Back 3 : Barrett/Rayasi/Goosen
Not too sure about the Front row, probably Aumua at hooker & Numia as one prop... Lomax showed very good promise early in his career, hasn't really come through after that though.

I'm surprised Hunt is starting at 10 let alone the captain... surely Marty Banks would be a better option at 10.
