@gt12 the biggest problem for the Canes is the whole Ardie at 8 thing, we’ve got three outstanding 8s (Flanders, Iose, Laubsher) coming through the system but because we keep playing Ardie there means they will probably all F off at some point. The Canes would be so much stronger playing Ardie where he truely belongs in the 7 jersey but I doubt Holland will ever learn.

And at least from my armchair Kirifi’s form fell off a cliff this season. He was pretty good last year but his impact was down.

Ardie’s situation is not dissimilar to Rodders. Rodders was an openside when he started out. I seem to recall that the Canes moved him to number 8 because of Harding who was a quality openside. Rodders basically played that 7.5 role with 8 on his back.

Got selected as a number 8 for the ABs by Mitchell, got monstered by England in 03 and was basically behind Jerry as the preferred 8. But to his credit he continued to work on his game, put on a bit of muscle and then was back in the side under Henry and the rest is history.

I still hold hope that Savea could be Rodders II - he has the workrate and drive.

He’s played 59 tests to Rodders 62…..he’d better hurry.

Fantastic, can we add Prinsep, J Savea, Blackwell, Kirifi and Holland himself to that list? It will be interesting who gets that third hooker spot.

I thought O'Reilly went well when he played

@Winger chiefs after Brett Cameron? wouldn't imagine so since they have Ioane, Gatland, Reihana, Trask & D Mac

Agree. But sure the article said Chiefs . Maybe it was Highlanders and Canes. That would make more sense

@Winger I think I remember it was the Highlanders and Canes. I know Brett Cameron and J Barrett are good mates, so if that signing keeps Barrett in Wellington, then I'm all for it, even though I think Aiden Morgan's our ten moving forward.

That’s what I hope Ardie can develop. Rodders created many opportunities for McCaw and others with his work at the ruck.

We don't need him, Dmac at 10, re-sign Falcon or bring in McClutchie, and bring up Reihana. None of that will happen though as we apparently have Joane for two more fucking years...

Bring back Jimmy Gopperth or someone on a one year deal JUST for the experience he could provide to Morgan and Love I’d like Cameron but that would interfere with Morgan and Loves development i feel.

I swear this thread a copy and paste of a Blues thread for the last 2 decades, just with names swapped out.

@Yeetyaah Two things spring to mind. i) Reed Prinsep must have "long covid" that will rule him out for a lengthy period or ii) Ardie must be reverting to openside (or lock!)

Two big signings for them. With luck )for the Canes, at lest), both players will be starting next year.

@gt12 yeah, Ardie to 7, Flanders to 8 would be ideal.

@Canes4life Flanders at 6 and Ardie at 8 is more likely, unfortunately.

If they play Iose at 7, that could still work.
