    • So on Friday Counties Manakau come to town looking to take the Shield home, and not for the first time. Looking at there performance against Otago, these guys are not going to roll over and die.Hawkes Bay's effort against Waikato was bloody good, but defensively there's work to be done, which no doubt the Coaching staff will address. Attacking wise the Bay were really good, but I think a bit more accuracy might have brought more points. To beat a team like Counties Manakau the Bay need to be tight up front, and accurate at the breakdown. Give these guys a chance in broken play and you'll pay the penalty. If the weather's good, and the field dry this should be a great game. Oh and look out for the Bay to use the rolling maul and drive a lot more.

1:1 record in defending the Shield against Counties.
    0:1 in the professional era.

That would be great and would officially make HB our bunnies.

Looks like Chase and Grigg are the coaches pets. Ah well, at least we're due the diamonds Chase this week.

If Caleb Makene is fit then surely he starts, if only for back up goalkicking as McClutchie occasionally has off days, but not so in this case as I think he is a better player than Tiatia at fullback anyway.

Not sure. The coach seems to want Reidy on the field and maybe it is a form call. Reidy did start a trial game at 8 so maybe that was to see if they could fit in both but the lack of Motunga on the bench at least does suggest he isn't available.

Motuga got injured in the first game of the Pacific Nations Cup. Don't think he's played since.

Pretty cool that even in this age we get those generational stories. Having Bruce Robertson as your grandfather gives you a lot to aspire to on the field

Sean Reidy and Ahsee Tuala were in the first Counties team to win the shield.

9 degrees, barely a cloud in the sky and not a breath of wind, it promises to be a brutal HB winters night tonight. Definitely not shorts weather!

Twenty minutes later and it is now marginally below 8 degrees. Wrap up warm @Stockcar86 @Number-10 @Billsy111 if you are going to slum it like me out on the bank where you get a real good read of the way the game is going! Just kidding it will be too dewy and my shoes will get wet so will be up in the Rodney Green Centennial Stand if I can get in there otherwise my season ticket is somewhere in the Graham Lowe Stand.

Edit: A recheck of the temperature gauge out on the back porch ten minutes later and it is now a noticeably chillier 6.5 degrees - Brrrrrrrr Thank goodness I am expert in smuggling in my hip flask.

I've got covid symptoms, so my seat in Harris stand is empty tonight. Cheering on from my sickbed
