WR AJ Brown traded to the Eagles for the 18th pick and a 3rd rounder.

That was a fun first round. Of course everyone feels good with their picks the day after, but notable picks for we were Travon Walker being number one. His physical traits are incredible but his production doesn't match. There's a good story for that with the role he was asked to play in that incredible Georgia defence not being one for racking up stats but when you could have had Aidan Hutchinson or Kayvon Thibodeux this pick is either going to look inspired or idiotic.

Derek Stingley is another interesting pick. Three years ago he was predicted to be the best player in the country. Injuries have held him back but plenty of guys fizzle out in college after bright starts. Again, the problem with the pick is going 3rd overall when you had other options. Sauce Gardener being the obvious alternative. The knock on Sauce is that he is too handsy and will get whistled out of the league compared with more tolerant dpi rules in college. But again, the Texans risk looking like idiots if Sauce is a probowler and Stingley flames out.

Cole Strange was probably the other surprising pick. The pats have a great record of developing OL players so you'd back them to get it right but he'd probably have been available in the second and maybe even the third. Surely someone like Karlaftis would have given them more value.

Tom Brady to be a commentator on Fox once he retires (replacing Aikman who left for ESPN).

Supposedly a 10 year deal and some crazy $ being reported (some say $200 mil others say up to $375 mil).

Baker Mayfield traded to the Carolina Panthers for a conditional 5th round pick.

Very cheap for the Panthers as Browns are paying part of the salary plus Baker has agreed to take a pay cut.

Crazy to think that the first and third overall picks from the 2018 Draft, both quarterbacks, are now on the same team, a team that neither was drafted to, whilst both are still on their rookie contracts.

The Browns will be paying Baker Mayfield $588K in Week 1 to try and beat the Browns...

49ers fans breathe a sigh of relief. Deebo Samuel signs a new deal with the 49ers.

Trey Lance will be very happy.

Good job by the 49ers not caving to the pressure to trade Deebo earlier in the offseason.

@KiwiMurph just looked at Gamepass. It's now $325NZD. That's getting up there ... but gets all the games. May just sign up with Sky or Spark again, and take the lottery on what is showed - along with all the other sports as well of course.

@nzzp Yeah good call - the other option is you do the 7 day free trial (for week 1) and then check back in later in the year as they usually discount gamepass around mid year.

Well I didn't see this happening.

Despite the no trade clause it actually should make it easier to trade Jimmy G as his salary is now lower (he can wave the no trade clause).

Whilst in theory this gives the 49ers a very strong QB room again - it's tough on Lance who will have to be looking over his shoulder all season.

Expensive insurance policy. I still see the 9ers giving Trey plenty of rope to grow into the position. It probably screws up a few teams who could have used Jimmy to strengthen as well

Allen and the Bills off to a fast start here. Allen has it on a string.

Apparently Allen is the shortest price favourite to win player of the year heading into the start of a season.

Dominant second half defensively by the Bills. Allen did his thing passing and even carrying the ball, but I thought the Bills defence really took care of business.

    Bills win 31-10

Bengals Steelers is crazy crazy right now.

Into OT, and three (THREE!!!) missed kicks to win the game. Insane.

Bengals long snapper injured I think ... but I have never seen this at this level before.

Bears upset the 49ers in the wet.

A bit of a revenge game for the Bears with Fields proving a point to the 49ers who didn't draft him and Dante Pettis (former 49ers second round pick who was cut) scoring a huge TD.

The loss wasn't solely on Trey Lance but this will do little to quell the drama with Jimmy G sitting there as a backup.

    interesting first week

Bills show why they are under the most pressure this year. That is a hot team (goddam how good is Vonn still?) and need to win.

Bengals lose week 1 as well
    the fucking Giants win!
Kansas City torch the Cards and their wildly overpaid QB
GB has a shocker to open

If MNF goes the way i want it to there will be two Divisions with no winners

At home, in the most Bengals way ever. Two missed kicks to win; a PAT and a 30 yarder. Just insane.

I didn't see the whole game - did Burrow stay upright?

US knows how to do an anthem, people soloing who can sign.

The trumpeter for the Cowboys is awesome - what a great way to roll into the game

Some amazing results to start the season and the NFL and broadcasters will be pretty pleased. Eight games decided by 6 points or less.

@nzzp I do love a good US anthem rendition at their sporting events.
