This seems so Micky Mouse. Half the team not even announced a week out. Usually Baabaas teams are trumpeted a long way out to encourage spectators and viewers. Is it a full house already?

Because the calendar is so congested nowadays they struggle to get players, baa baas is a dying concept

@Machpants Not a dying concept at all. Just planned in the wrong week. These games used to be played outside the November window, often in the first week of December. That's why they could field a lot of great players, particularly from the Southern Hemisphere. This game is in the November window, and therefore the best players are unvavailble.

I am assuming that NZR didn't release any SR players to play for the Baabass, as should be the case.

If Camille means perfect I am disappointed Camille Chat is not halfback but no doubt the scrums will be lively.

@Bovidae In the past, they used to be released. Not sure why they would change that and deny players the opportunity to play for a team with a great history and earn some extra dollars at the same time?

Edit: do players even need permission from NZR if they're not playing for the ABs/ABXV?

Edit 2: The best NZ players are in the ABs/ABXV; maybe Razor didn't want any of the remaining players for the Baabaas.

I would think that as part of the Collective Employment Agreement the players would need to get permission from their employer. And given the circumstances I wouldn't want to help the Barbarians.

There are still premiership games on, is on its way out. Baa Baas used to be a who's who, with one non capped player. Now they're mostly random barrel scrapings, or almost a trial team for an international side, like France B last year

@Machpants That's not an answer to my question to @Bovidae. And see my post above about the scheduling.

There are no free weekends when the Prem and Top 14 aren't playing, so baa Baas have to get employers permission to play. Or am i miss understanding your question? Edit: I was talking about all good players, you were on NZ sorry, my misunderstanding.

Edit: do players even need permission from NZR if they're not playing for the ABs/ABXV?

Yes players are still employed by NZR and need their permission. It will take away a rest week, impacting next season. Same with Oz, SA etc.

So the players have to get permission, NH +SA will miss a domestic game, NZ, Au will miss a rest week, impacting SR next year

@Machpants This was what my question was about:

And given the circumstances I wouldn't want to help the Barbarians.

Baabaas players never missed a rest week. They arrived a week later for preseason and that was never a problem.

Robertson was offered the AB XV job wasn't he? If I was NZR, I wouldn't be giving his team NZ players.

@Bovidae Not sure he was offered the XV job; wasn't that just speculation?

Even if it was, I don't see why NZR wouldn't allow NZ players to play for the Baabaas and deny them the opportunity. Would be pretty pathetic. You'd think that NZR would welcome the opportunity for players to earn some extra income as that's what keeps them in NZ (longer).

I'd hope the NZR wouldn't be that petty.

@Stargazer As of yet there are no non-touring Aust, Arg or SA players either, so probably not a priority for any of the SANZAAR teams.

@Bovidae That's assuming they were asked. Maybe they weren't.
