The Barbarians U21s look to be a decent squad. Some players involved in the U20 tournament last year, some that couldn't play because of injury, and others who didn't make the cut in their U20 squad this year. We want the games to be competitive.

Here is the Barbarians U21s by province. Good to see some Heartland players in there again.

    @Chris

I watched him play for the NZ Schools team last year, and the odd game on TV with St Thomas.

He looked like a promising player, and has some size. To be honest, all the no.7s on display for NZS/Barbarians/Māori teams looked to have potential. The other openside in the NZ Schools team was Brooke Mitchell from Rotorua BHS, who looked excellent too. I hope the Chiefs have kept him.

When I think of the players I've seen in those teams over recent years, some have made an immediate impact at the next level while others haven't been so fortunate. The best no.7 was Cam Church, who was in the same NZ Schools loose forward trio as Segner and Ekuasi.

It says in here that Peter Lakai is in the Hurricanes 20s squad, is that actually correct?

@Canes4life Not according to the Hurricanes' media release. Maybe he has been added later? We'll see it tomorrow, I guess.

@Stargazer whoever wrote the article said that Peter Lakai is in the team but yeah, I guess we’ll see if he’s been a late addition or not today.

Personally, I’d rather him be available for the main team, especially if we are giving Ardie another rest.

I don't know, but not everything in that article is entirely correct.

Sad indictment that the Blues U20s are starting with 2 loose forwards in the locking positions
Both Woods and Walters are loose forwards
Rory Woods is around 6’4 and Kobe Walters who plays for Kamo in the Northland club comp is a number 8 around 6’2
I know Cam Christie was unavailable but where all the tall locks..?

@Steven-Harris And Clarke and Jackson are similar in height to the locks. Cook is a tall lock also injured.

The NZ U20s will need some size and height in their locks when you look at the 6N U20 teams like Ireland, France and England. Cahill will be one of the locks but the other positions are open.

Where is Ale Aho, who was one of the NZ U19 locks from Auckland?

The good thing is that 3 of 4 the locks in the 2022 NZ Schools team were tall and had some size at that age. Liam Jack was a beanpole, like Hannah.

Highlanders squad for their game against the Chiefs.

Really keen to see how Taylor, Stodart, Tupo-Ta'eiloa, Faleagafa, Waanga, Asi, Tupou and Hurley.

@Steven-Harris mentioned about the Blues using two loosies at lock. From my research it looks like the Highlanders are doing the same.

Interestingly the only Dunedin based player who made the NZ School last year was Dylan Pledger, yet he isn't in this squad

He is a halfback, and small (for a halfback). The other halfback in that team isn't in the Chiefs squad either.
