So based on those selections I'd assume they will select the following as a starting side.

    1. Moody
    2. Thompson
    3. Renata
    4. Walker-Leawere
    5. McWhannell
    6. Suafoa
    7. Harmon
    8. Grace
    9. Nock
    10. Reihana
    11. Sullivan
    12. Poihipi
    13. Tupaea
    14. Moorby
    15. Forbes
    16. Eklund
    17. Rakete-Stones
    18. Norris
    19. Hicks
    20. Broughton
    21. Toiria Tahuriorangi
    22. Kemara
    23. Rona

No Josh Ioane and a couple of newbie Crusader 1st 5s. Even the Maori have their red n black eye patches on…

A great opportunity for Tana Tuhakaraina. Moorby is now officially listed as a Waikato player.

I wonder if some like Akira made themselves unavailable.

    @Bovidae

Probably not contracted anymore. He negotiated an early release and judging by Auckland's social media he's not available for NPC

@ACT-Crusader Those two have been in the system for years, given we're short on first fives they are a good MAB selection, I would pressume Reihana would start for the 80 and Kemara would be there for cover if needed.

    No Josh Ioane

In an interview on Maori tv Filipo said that Josh and Akira weren't selected as they were "moving on and focusing on the next step in their carriers". Has Josh Ioane leaving been announced at all?

I haven't seen anything official by the Chiefs or Waikato. It's a certainty that Jacomb will have been signed by the Chiefs to replace him.

I like the picks, and both are good young players. But was surprised to not see Josh’s name given I hadn’t heard anything about injury or departure.

Looking at the whole squad, Broughton must be the no.7 cover, which I thought might happen. Jacob Norris is unlucky then as he covers all three loose forward positions.

Yeah can't see much point in injuring yourself for pittance in festival rugby and voiding your lucrative contract, don't blame him.

Filipo said they are are looking at a couple of players. Harmon seems to be the obvious choice. All will be revealed when the team is released.

Perhaps controversial, but I reckon that the Maori All Blacks should include overseas-based players. Particularly with the advent of the NZ XV, would allow the two teams to play simultaneously, whilst also both being strong.

Lacking depth at prop. I assume Ainsley wasn't interested as Kumeroa really struggled.

Rameka Poihipi's surprising journey to Māori All Blacks Co-Captaincy

Rameka Poihipi (Ngāti Whakaue) was so surprised to be named co-captain of the Māori All Blacks that he initially considered turning the role down.

@ARHS Filipo must have wanted a forward and back as his co-captains. But Poihipi didn't even start.
