The winds are too low so Race 4 is postponed until tomorrow.

Team NZ lead 3-0 after Day 2.

Is the pressure of being 0-3 is getting to Sir Ben Ainslie?

That commentator is the worst thing about the coverage.

    yeah

i thought the commentator asked a pretty stupid question

cant remember the question exactly, but remember thinking that that was a clown question

not surprised ainslie called him a piston wristed gibbon . . . i would have too

ainslie under pressure tho . . . i think the kiwis are actually out sailing him . . . and as maybe the best sailer of all time . . . that's gotta shit ya

been only one overtake so far (kiwis)

    @sparky said in Americas cup:

The average speed of the two boats is similar, but Team NZ are much more efficient and careful in their movements.

VMG means the boat is sailing to the mark better. If the average speed is even but the NZ boat can sail a better VMG that can mean that the NZ boat performs better. It’s not all about outright speed

0.4knts vmg is a a decent performance increase over Ineos.

Im expecting this to be over fairly in a few days although will be interesting seeing how Ineos compete in the upper wind range. They were very impressive in dispatching LRPP in a higher wind range.

Ainslie needs to win the starts but from what we have seen, I am not sure they have the boat to keep ETNZ behind them if they get in front.

I was hoping for a more competitive series. I suppose I shouldn’t get ahead of myself here but 3-0 does look ominous.

I do t think a hugely dominant ETNZ smashing Ineos 7-0 is going to do a lot for AM and challengers coming into the next one. It can’t be too attractive for a new syndicate to drop $100m for the chance to get humiliated by the kiwi team.

That was exciting. Hope for something like that. Gotta say as a neutral I’m pulling for the Brit’s .. just makes for a better event if they win. Huge respect to the NZ sailors and tech team. Sailing in America has really faded away. ..

the faster boat won. It just took a few races to figure out how to sail it again as they lost their lead sail trimmer (from memory)

Did they also start on negative points? Negative two? So 8-1 was more like 8-3 in reality?

3-zip to TNZ, can't have asked for a better start. Hopefully we can make it a clean sheet and maybe, just maybe we'll be able to see this event back on NZ shores again.

Things that would make a British win more likely:

    1. They win the start.
    2. Heavier winds.
    3. A New Zealand mistake.
    4. A penalty against the NZ boat or a mechanical problem.

It's nice to be 3-0 up and looking strong, but there is a long way to go.

@Canes4life Very unlikely we will see it here. Dalton's talking up how well Barcelona is hosting. Can't see Luxon stumping up the kind of cash needed to secure hosting rights. The event probably is better in Europe TBH much more likely to get a decent number of challengers.

Might have to make the trip next time then. 😃

    Who was/is the commentator?

Sounds like Stephen McIvor. Is it?

Yeah it was McIvor. The experts with him are pretty good at explaining detailed stuff quite simply. I think it’s Glen Ashby who sailed with ETNZ last time, and English sailing legend Shirley Robertson. They also have Peter Lester in his 11th America's Cup campaign. The latter reckons the kiwis get up to speed faster through the tacks and that’s the biggest difference between the respective boats.

At the moment ETNZ get up to hull speed way faster and their VMG is better. Basically gaining 50m per tack and gybe.

McIvor is cringe personified. I really enjoyed Ken Read, young man in an older man's body. Essentially the Murray Mexted of sailing.
