try rowing time to get started, and then work the distances you row upwards in the times. Set if for 20 minutes, or 15 minutes and go from there.

Any tips on maintaining a lower split over the 500m? Or is just a case of rowing more often, longer distances?

try different stroke rates. Get down to 24 per minute, while maintaining your speed. Then when you up your stroke rate, you will keep pulling hard, and your pace will drop.

Experiment with slow stroke rates, and pulling harder etc.

And form is important, all your power in your legs, so use them!!

but just putting the metres in the best way - the more the better, and the better you will get!

I've been 'playing' while rowing lately though, will row at whatever a rate, then for a minute, go hard out, fast as I can, then cruise along again for maybe a couple of minutes, then hard out again. Mix it up to keep the brain active while you row.

Always try and beat little targets while you row etc. You're rower will have the pace boat thing (mine pre that), but set him a little faster than your besty times, so you have to at least beat the machine...!

Cool, have got the rate down to 25 at the moment but the fitness gives out if I try to maintain too low a rate. Will keep on trucking.

Noticed somethign this week with my diet. Usually when I have a stressful week I will reward myself with a treat. I had the worst week in months at work this week (thanks to Indian outsourced cock smokers) and the thought never crossed my mind.
Well the scales shamed me into starting this again. I'm almost got to 87kg around Christmas, which for this short arse is approaching beached whale proportions.

Have just finished the "cleanest" month I've had in a long time, and today have reached the first 5kg weight loss target (next one is to get under 80kg, and the final is to get to 75kg).

So after sticking to bugger all booze (two beers and a whiskey all month, 20 days in a row without), less than 2000 calories a day, and at least three cardio sessions a week, I've been averaging 1.3kg off a week.

So am now 81.6 kg.

This last two kg for the second target has been hard, think it's time to add in weights to shock the body as I think it's got used to the cardio (even though a decent proportion of them have been 90min sessions). Might move the cardio to mornings as well to confuse the fat <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Hard to describe how good I feel without the sugar too. No headaches, lots of energy, hardly ever tired.

Hit an annoying plateau, so hit it with a week off exercise and more calories per day (and a complete day off of drinking and mucho foodo). Initially, that put a kg back on but that's back off and I've moved down to 81kg now. 1kg to my second goal of being under 80kg (will be the first time in over four years).

Have lost 1.7kg this week so far. Been a good week. Starting to see a real difference now, going in two belt notches being the most noticable.

is all good Mr K - well done and keep it going,

Those rest periods are essential, I sometimes get a bit stale with my rowing and rest. But am so addicted to it that after a cuple of days I am raring to go again, and in fact sometiumes my rest is just rowing 5k stretches once a day instead of longer or two a day rowing sessions.

Anyway - rest is good, and the day off eating thing pretty handy too.

You'll be a super runt under 80kg though, careful when you go to the beach, Baron will kick sand in your face <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    Baron's on 70kg isn't he? I have a long way until I catch him <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> When I hit 75kg, there won't be much in it I guess.

Just a smidgen over 6kgs lost now, the last kg was bloody hard. Just half a kg away from 80 and now I'm off on holiday.

Challenge now is not to put it all back on over the next two weeks. Much easier going the other way!

Sweet Jesus. I got pissed off at the rate of weight loss and upped the intensity (and order) of the cardio and went last night and this morning. Had some fluids and thought I'd check out the weight anyway.

79.6kg! First time under 80kg in over 5years and exactly 7kgs lost so far in 8 weeks.

That's two goals achieved, next stop 75kg.
