I like what our coaches have developed. The long passing is great. The offensive tackling and drive over is a real weapon. And they have chosen defensive agility and acceleration over top end pace. I. E. They like a close quarters game with our ability to cover and pressure.

The other thing is that the traditional sweeper role seems to have been shelved in order to strengthen the initial defence line instead. Breaking that line is by far the most important facet followed closely by support play.

Yep. Which is why that one missed tackle, whether is acceleration into a gap or a broken tackle, is almost always leading to a try. No sweeper to cover.

Not sure that it makes it a better game but it is different.

ROK go up early against Japan 7-0.

Japan strike back. Tuqiri celebrates with a bit of kavaball.

7-7 first half 4 to go

ROK grab another one thanks to their little steppy bloke on the wing. Matsui should have poleaxed him when he stepped inside.

    ROK 12-7 Japan

Agree with that too. It's not sevens as we knew it, but it does seem to work for us.

Also leads to closer scores I think and my heart rate going through the roof.

Japan strike back 14-12 just before halftime.

Pedantic refereeing - no defender there and he penalises ROK for going off feet on attack.

That said - pretty stupid from the big American kid for ROK lying directly on the ball.

Japan extending the first half in order to take a bigger lead.

    Japan 19-12 ROK

Japan open the half with a simple wide play against 6 men.

    Japan 26-12 ROK

Yellow card for Japan for not 10 - not enough of that from the refs this tournament.

This ref fucked that decision tho - was a genuine intent to catch. Ball went in the air and he's jumped to catch it.

Good try there ROK - finally shed a tackle using speed on the outside, 6 v 6.

    Japan 26-19 ROK

@nta he's being super strict on rolling in the tackle too, looked like a pretty normal roll off the ball so you can place it to me

Japan take advantage of being a man up with an inside ball, and it is 31-19.

    Game probably gone here.

I saw it how he did - when a defender is on his feet over you, they're pretty quick to hammer the extra roll.

Just like that decision for tackler to roll: not moving quick enough, even if not right on the ball.

    Japan 31 - 19 ROK.

Fairly decent game - neither of these teams suffocated anyone on defence, and ROK clearly are rookies at this level.

@nta i think id rather he gave everyone an extra second and allowed that half meter to allow it to flow a bit rather than just blowing everything up in the microsecond it happens

and my understanding was you're allowed a motion to place the ball behind ya, dont count that as an extra

Yes you are, but if someone is right there who is NOT the tackler, they are fully allowed to grab the ball.

@nta exactly...but they weren't getting pinged for not releasing...they were getting pinged for an extra roll, which i dont feel they were

Kenya 7-0 up at halftime against ireland in an error-riddled 7 minutes of rugby.

So much dropped ball, but it's fucking 31C and humid
