Magpies v Tasman
-
-
Dammit, about their strongest squad possible.
-
1 Pouri Rakete-Stones, 2 Ash Dixon, 3 Namatahi Waa, 4 Geoff Cridge, 5 Tom Parsons, 6 Marino Mikaele-Tuโu, 7 Brendon OโConnor, 8 Gareth Evans, 9 Folau Fakatava, 10 Lincoln McClutchie, 11 Mason Emerson, 12 Danny Toala, 13 Neria Fomai, 14 Caleb Makene, 15 Tiaan Falcon
Reserves: 16 Kianu Kereru-Symes, 17 Jason Long, 18 Ben May, 19 Isaia Walker-Leaware, 20 Devan Flanders, 21 Josh Kaifa, 22 Zach Donaldson, 23 Ollie Sapsford
-
Wonder if they will fly BBBR home for the game as he is still in need of serious gametime to get himself matchfit?
-
-
@nepia Does their all encompassing selection searches know no bounds. Where did they unearth that number 21 from?
-
@Stargazer Missing Tim Perry, Liam Squire, Sione Havili, Tim O'Malley and The Great Will Jordan!

TH prop our weakest spot; our 3rd choice prop, but hey, his opposite in the scrum is only Wyatt Crockett.
Allardice seems to be injured again? I wonder why Walker-Leawere isn't starting ....
Good to see that Toala has been cleared off concussion; the backline is exactly as I hoped, considering the injuries, but still no McNicol and Lowe. Sapsford's knee is apparently okay (no ACL/MCL).6 - 2 split on the bench again.

@Chris-B Any info?

Sunwolves

At least one of this lot might even be home grown?
-
@Nepia Former Japanese international player - 22 tests but mainly against real minnows.
Apparently Wyatt Crockett scouted him while doing his tour of duty at Panasonic Wild Knights - and we needed a replacement for Jack Grooby who is out for the season.
-
Just a reminder to all you HB Tipping Team members. Just a couple of hours to go to get your tips in for this weekends match that will decide whether we will take home the bronze medal. Fairly handy 4 point lead at half time but we have the difficult HB V Tasman match to overcome which could well upset predictionis and our chances given we are up against the South Island Team (an we know who they will all be going for).
-
@Chris-B Does he meet the residential criteria? We still have vivid memories of being undone by them in the Battle of Solway in 1927.
-
@Higgins After some google enlightenment - where was Wattie Barclay from? Poverty Bay?
Any questionmarks and we can quickly find one of the girls from Bubbles' Bathhouse and a backdated marriage certificate!

That's really just a synonym for Far-North Hawkes Bay.
He was actually from Kawhia, but made his name as a member of the famous Magpies Shield team of the 1920s ... before heading away and coming back a few days too late.
Captained NZ Maori too and went close to the ABs.
-
@Nepia Away overseas? Ah that makes sense.

I guess Auckland could be considered overseas (but yeah it was just after the Maori tour).
-
Changes to the Magpies' line-up: Gareth Evans out, Devan Flanders starts at 8. An extra back, Stacey Ili, on the bench.
1 Pouri Rakete-Stones, 2 Ash Dixon, 3 Namatahi Waa, 4 Geoff Cridge, 5 Tom Parsons, 6 Marino Mikaele-Tuโu, 7 Brendon OโConnor, 8 Devan Flanders, 9 Folau Fakatava, 10 Lincoln McClutchie, 11 Mason Emerson, 12 Danny Toala, 13 Neria Fomai, 14 Caleb Makene, 15 Tiaan Falcon
Reserves: 16 Kianu Kereru-Symes, 17 Jason Long, 18 Ben May, 19 Isaia Walker-Leaware, 20 Josh Kaifa, 21 Zach Donaldson, 22 Stacey Ili, 23 Ollie Sapsford
Both Evans and Allardice out with a shoulder injury, but expected to return for the semi-final.
-
Lol why is Walker-Leawere sitting on the bench again? I bet he would rather be starting for Wellington than warming the bench for Hawkes Bay.
He has been one of HBs best. Seems stupid.
-
@Canes4life I assume it's because he hasn't played for almost 3 weeks. He missed two games because of parental leave. But yeah, it's odd, although his power will come in handy in the second half when the Mako (and our starters) start to tire. Personally, I'd have swapped IWL and Cridge, also, because Cridge is more versatile and can also play at 6.
-
Should hopefully be a good game. Up Hawke's Bay.
-
Killing them - five nil already after just about five minutes!
-
And the score rockets out by another 40% with the Falcon conversion to the Mikaele-Tu'u try
Hawkes Bay 07 - 00 Tasman after six minutes -
Ominous first scrum..

Yeah, smacked us in that scrum.
That stupid tackle rule after that though, Nankivell was tackled, defender let him go and he just kept going.
-
Do you think the defending black 10 was held back/impeded by the Tasman player in that try scoring movement by them?
-
To make matters worse Danny Toala has left the field after taking a couple of heavy knocks.
-

Not sure, I was too busy seeing the red mist over the tackle held/not held.
-
Flanders in for the Magpies second try.
-
@Nepia Fakatava needs to feed the scrum once the scrum it hits..,good try..!
-
That there explains exactly why TBN should not be selected for the Hurricanes ahead of Devan Flanders as Flanders scores nicely from a scrum under pressure as HB increase their score by 100%
Hawkes Bay 14 - 07 Tasman after about twenty three minutes -
WTF, yellow card for that?
It is tiddlywinks!
-
It bounced up after hitting him hard sllightly below the shoulder bone
-
Did you spot that diving shoulder chrage clean out in the maul there by the red five Nepia?
-
Dumb from Flanders..they had done so well to clear from a 7 man scrum
-

Nah I missed it, clearly I'm not watching intently enough.
-
@Nepia He dived into the players lying on the ground leading cleary with his left shoulder.
-
Well worked move for the try there from the Chequebook Makos.
-
Very good set move from the visitors..bugger...!,I really believe this is going to be one of these games where the magpies need to stay in the fight until Crocket and Lomax depart ..
