The list of hookers that still have issues with lineout throwing is a long one.

I'm a Taukei'aho fan. It didn't help him or Slater that the Chiefs didn't have any tall locks as targets.

Is this a coaching issue? I don't see how so many of these guys can all be so poor at it.

@gt12 It has to be but there are 3 parts to a successful lineout (throw, lifters, jumper). It's not always the hooker's fault unless the throw is crooked.

Taylor has had some average throwing games this season, and he's meant to be one of our best.

    Speaking of Taukei’aho.

@Bovidae Does anybody know if he’s even in there plans...I thought they’d be at least 4 or 5 in front of him.

@mikey07 Hard to know at present. As you say there will at least 5 hookers ahead of him. Taukei’aho says himself that he is only focused on Waikato and the Chiefs.

A few hints about the squad (some new talent from within the region and some surprises). I hope the latter is more than just Bryn Gatland.

I like the look of S. Misa. He is strong and hard. Don't know much about his throwing though.

Alaimalo off to the Landers on a 3 year deal.

Probably be first choice fullback down there, unless there is someone else that I can't think of right now...??

@Gunner Hunt and Koroi probably the other options, a big tall bloke as competition will be good for us as if you guys take Gatland Koroi and Hunt are also our 10 cover

I expect Trask and McKenzie to share 10 and 15 next year, so makes sense for Alaimalo to move if he is keen on 15. Was hoping that Fletcher Smith and Rivez Reihana would both be signed as the alternatives. Interesting to see Stevenson showing so much more consistency for Harbour at fullback. Still hoping to see a big winger recruited, assuming Nanai-Seturo goes to 7's. But Josh Mackay or Jacob Kneepkens would be ok.

Might want a BIG lock (Lord/Selby-Rickett/Van Den Hoven) and a metre-gaining Number 8 (Lamborn, Manu, Messam, K Boshier?) to add depth there. I assume that Xavier Roe, Samepeni Finau and Matt Garland will be recruited.

@ARHS I’d be very surprised if they didn’t give Smith a contract as Holland won’t resign him as they seem to love JGB. I’d rather the Canes sign him over JGB at least Smith can run and a game with some flair no

Interesting that the Chiefs granted Alaimalo an early release. He'll sign with Southland due to the MacLeod and little bro connection.

Alaimalo has been injured more often than not over the last 2 seasons so neither the Chiefs or Waikato have got value for money.

There are young wingers in the region like Kneepkens and Naholo.

@ARHS Skipwith-Garland is 28 so would any SR team select a debutant who is that old (relatively speaking)?

@Bovidae I think Chiefs need one experienced midfielder to add stability there besides Lienert-Brown, Tupaea seems injury plagued, Manu leaving and will Nankivell be fit for early season? Maybe Wainui moves to centre if they pick up 2 quality wingers?
Depending on who goes to sevens midfielders may be in shortish supply for Super squads, while some good locks may not find a spot. Maybe Tofa from Manawatu or Poihipi back from Canterbury?

Fair enough. He is a centre where the other three are best suited to 2nd 5. I'd be comfortable with a Nankivell-ALB combo but that means playing ALB at centre.

I'm hoping that Wainui is a considered a bench centre who can play winger in the squad.

I'd be keen on Ratumaitavuki-Kneepkens tbh. He looks great at M10 level. Hopefully Naholo can show us what he's got. Re the midfield, ALB and Nankivell have both been pretty good. I still like Tupaea but he hasn't shown much at Super level.

Ratumaitavuki-Kneepkens, who started playing at the Tukapa Rugby Club in New Plymouth when he was a 4-year-old, has also signed with Taranaki Rugby. And he has been in talks with the Chiefs

    From October 2019

I'd be happy with ALB-Wainui in the midfield as well.

I worry about Wainui's distribution at centre. At least there will be options.
