@cgrant which Higgins are you talking about, Riley or Kienan?

I agree if you're talking about Riley. Both him and Godfrey look to have big futures, both look like very capable footballers. Don't think they will get contracts just yet though as they haven't featured in the NPC but hopefully we see them in the development team.

I can confirm through my source that Roigard has indeed resigned with the Canes next year, he’s been awfully quiet in terms of giving me info on signings but I have managed to get that out of him.

@dice argh ffs, JGB had his opportunity. I hope they don't see him as the first choice.

Totally agree maybe no other 10 wanted to come to the Canes, so Holland had no choice OR most likely Holland loves mediocrity.

@mikey07 we need more than JGB IMO. I saw Josh Ioane has officially been released from the Highlanders so it will be interesting to see if he ends up at the Canes or Moana Pasifika.

@mikey07 haha I didn’t see that. That move makes sense for the Chiefs after losing DMac.

Newly-named All Blacks captain Ardie Savea will lead the Hurricanes again next year, coach Jason Holland says, pending some final details of his new deal.

But the halfback headache continues, with the newly-signed Cam Roigard having suffered a shoulder injury which will likely require a replacement being summoned.

Savea is the only big name not yet signed with NZ Rugby and the Hurricanes for next year after Dane Coles, Jordie Barrett and TJ Perenara all committed to the Wellington side for 2022 and the new Super Rugby Pacific competition.

While Perenara’s return from a season in Japan provides a significant boost to their inside back stocks, there remains uncertainty over the third No 9 in the squad.

Holland said Roigard, of Counties Manukau, was signed before the NPC season as their third halfback alongside Perenara and Jamie Booth. But after starting their NPC opener against Manawatu, Roigard suffered an injury which could sideline him for some time.

“We made a decision, and a couple of weeks ago we contracted Cam Roigard again. He won that race for that third spot, then two weeks later he popped his shoulder,” Holland told Newstalk ZB.

Fellow Steeler Jonathan Taumateine, and Bay of Plenty’s Luke Campbell, were both on the books this year but missed out to Roigard who was initially behind both in the pecking order.

With that pair having been told they weren’t required by the Hurricanes, talks may have begun with other teams which could make securing a replacement tricky. “We’ll see what everyone’s doing, but we’d be delighted to have them back,” Holland said.

I would be perfectly happy with Richard Judd if he’s available.

I was talking about Riley. I forgot about Kienan.

@mikey07 aslong as it isn’t JT. Luke Campbell probably deserves the spot the most after being solid for us last year.

@canes4life Yeah agree and as much as I like Booth and his explosiveness he is too injury prone, would much rather they kept Campbell, I’m glad they let JT go he offered nothing not even a crisp pass.

    @mikey07

Good pickup as he has potential but has had no/few opportunities.

He could come good and be a real player to watch, or just a squaddie.

Time will tell, but I'm surprised we didn't carry him as a 4th/5th midfield outside back.

@mikey07 @Stargazer Given he is originally out of Napier BHS that generally means he will get little or no game time behind teachers pet B Proctor and someone that J Holland will undoubtedly pluck from obscurity out of the Wellington Schools Competition. PUJ might move up the pecking order somewhat but won't hold my breath on that one either.
