@kiwi_expat totally agree I fail to see why Mackintosh is actually there.

@Stargazer Yeah look what he did for the Lions forward pack which is essentially the Canes forward pack anyway.

Uhm, Wellington may have the largest representation in the Canes overall and in their forward pack, but the majority of Hurricanes forwards doesn't play for Wellington.

Aumua, Numia, Blackwell, Bird, Kirifi, Delany, Lakai are all in the Lions squad, and will all likely play big mins next year for the Canes. That’s a good chunk of the Hurricanes forwards even when you don’t include Savea and Coles. I know there are also a lot of quality forwards from Manawatu, BOP and HB that will complete for positions. Would have been good to have Fish on board, better option than Mackintosh.

I see what @mikey07 is saying though. That Lions lineout was top notch. The way Delany, Bird and Blackwell played this year was a level above previous seasons and big ups must go to Tito for that.

Certainly would of been good to see Tito on the Cane's coaching staff Canes, Like you I impressed with what he did for Lions, Leo Crowley was telling me he thought he had some good knowledgeetc, and I would of been keen on seeing him bring Lakai etc to another level, especially as Ardie heads over for the yen in 2024 so will need a bit of experience at 8, although I think Flanders goes pretty well there.

The road to the Hurricanes has been quite a journey for Josh Southall. This paints a picture of what he’s gone through since making the NZ Schools as a year 12 a few years back. I really hope his career thrives from here.

Injuries from the age of 13:

Age 13: Tore my calf muscle (4 MONTHS)
Age 14: Severs Disease Heel (12 weeks)
Age 15: Osgood Schlatters Disease, Two Knee Hyper Extension (12 weeks)
Age 16: Two Concussions, Carpal Tunnel in Wrist, Popped AC Shoulder Joint, Grade 3 Ankle Sprain (Total 5 MONTHS, 19 weeks)
Age 17: Tore ACL, MCL, PCL & Meniscus Right Knee Surgery (13 MONTHS)
Age 18: MCL Right Knee (8 weeks)
Age 19: Popper AC Shoulder Joint (12 weeks)
Age 20: Concussion, Articular Cartilage Knee Surgery (15 MONTHS)
Age 21: Blew Left Hamstring (10 weeks)
    Age 22: Changed position no.7 ➡️ no.2 Blew Right Hamstring (10 weeks)

A few photos from the Hurricanes annual surf to peak can be found here: https://davelintott.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/221217-Super-Rugby-Hurricanes-Surf-To-Peak/G0000WmcdCJtIvzM/I0000IF.H1GgrxRo

Billy Proctor coming in first place, Cam Roigard in second, and Josh Southall in third. Interestingly Ruben Love who has won this comfortably the two years prior either didn't partake or didn't finish in the top 3.

Geez poor bugger that is a lot of injuries to cope with.
It does show he is mentally strong though,I hope he gets some real reward out of all the Rehab.

@Chris Yeah, agree with that. He must be tough and surrounded by very supportive people if he - after all those injuries - still hasn't given up. Hopefully, he has left all the bad luck with injuries behind him. That's an awful list.

Yeah, all of that wants me to keep an eye out on his career, cheer him along and hope he succeeds.

Oh good spot, interesting that he hasn't placed because he won comfortably the last couple of seasons. Maybe off the pace after having a few extra weeks off.

Yeah that’s an insane list aye. I really hope he can make a fist of it at hooker. If you scroll across on the post below it shows how hard he’s working to reach the standard required for Super Rugby in his new position. Looks like a slightly smaller Dane Coles when he runs but he looks strong as an ox. Hopefully he gets a tone of minutes for Wellington next year.

Hurricanes Under 20 Development squad announced. @Stargazer no Gus Brown, I wonder if he’s signed somewhere else?

@Canes4life He's a 12 that can play 10. A big frame on him, good footwork. can kick. He played for St John's College in the CNI comp, made the barbarians team from memory. A good pick up.

Yes, O'Brien was in the Barbarians U18s and also played for the Asian Barbarians in the World School 7s.

@Canes4life A bit of a confusing name is this one. Is that the real Under 20s (or A Team) or the Under 20s "B" team?
