Hurricanes vs Highlanders

A really good performance from our lads on the whole.

Having calmed down a bit, there’s definitely something players/combinations sticking with… the concerning thing is though, will pur current best players stick around. Get a good first five from off-shore, a bulldozing number eight, and we win some of these close games.
Thought that was the best I’ve seen from Jack Taylor tonight - has largely struggled when starting, but thought he was very accurate and energetic. As for Vikena, man… looked pretty solid most of the year, but that cameo was just as poor as the half against Moana. Shouldn’t play again this season.

Love was fairly solid at 10. Nailed a couple of critical goal kicks from out wide, general play kicking was also good with penalty line kicks in particular good. Squared up and ran onto the ball nicely and distribution was excellent creating time and space for his midfield. Not sure if his balance of kick vs pass vs run is quite there yet in terms of game management though. His defence was good but sometimes he comes up a bit too hard acting like a rush midfielder so quick recycles then gave space to the Highlanders due to his eagerness. Arguably even better at fullback (and funnily enough defensively he played a lot of fullback taking many of the high balls sent through by the Highlanders even prior to Cameron coming on) with a critical scorching run towards the end of the game that got the Canes right where they needed to be to win it.

Hah that shouldn't have been to antipodean that should have been a reply to Frank. Just a bit rusty here after over 10 years away. Amused to see all my old posts disappear.

Outside of Vikenna felt everyone else had a phenomenal game. Huge ticker and unlucky not to get the win.
EDG had an exceptional game. Feel like when he's in a leadership role he goes up a level. Taylor had his best game in a Landers jersey. Telea was a monster and Robinson a few errors aside had a great game. I think Lowe probably earned himself a contract extension with that performance too. Lennox performed well on the wing too.
Huge shame we've lost Nareki for next week. I'd throw Caution to the wind and gave Mason another shot. Put Bell on the bench for Vikenna. Other than than that I'd probably keep things pretty similar.

How did Ruben Love go at 10?
Excellent IMO, despite a question on his game management but his forwards delivered slow ball, which allowed the Highlanders defence to react accordingly. 100% success in his goal kicking and pretty solid in every department. Brillant with ball in hand.

Best performance I've seen from the Highlanders for a very long time.
Belief, determination and big balls courage saw the Hurricanes home when lesser teams would have thought "it wasn't their night." Wins you have to work hard for are extra sweet.
Happy days! 😎

Best team in the fucking world, unbeatable.

@sparky also, calm down.
Damn I didn't even think about the possibility of the Highlanders getting the spoon.
I'm sure they'll give the Crusaders a touch up next week.

Tavatavanawai and Tele'a did very well against the much vaunted Higgins - Proctor combo. Actually, they played far better, Big Jim in defence and Tele'a in attack where his power was awesome. I wouldn't mind seeing one of those two or the two in the future AB squad.

With the Drua winning big today the Landers are officially in 11th spot. Let’s hope they give the Saders a hiding next week.

I'm not 100% it was Love, but I thought it was him who gave Lowe his second try. Lowe drew a defender and passed to JRK - but the defender didn't complete the tackle, leaving Lowe in position to take the return pass and score. Whoever it was, it was pretty poor play and undid the good work from the other cover to get JRK.

It was Punivai, he was the reason for both of Lowe’s tries

Hmm, not sure about that - I'm not 100% sure, but I'm not Nisbo either mate.

I remember Punivai making a really poor read in that second try, will have to watch it again.
