@NTA Seems like an angry loon.
LOL bang on. You have a look at that bloke's twitter feed and he seems like an angry old man. The journo I spoke to sent me his real name but I'd never heard of him.
Just another denizen of Web 2.0
The journo actually had to ask me if I had a commercial agreement with the installer, Tesla, or anyone else to promote the product. Fuck I wish! Besides a few contacts and a shitload of new knowledge, I got jack!
CHOICE Australia asked me that question as well when they interviewed me. I laughed.

As someone who would literally remove his scrotum with a rusty breadknife to be part of "Big Powerwall" it must be bloody annoying to be accused of membership when the bastards won't even let you in. I mean, what more can you do Nick?

Jeez some of the comments in The Australian were hilarious - apparently:
- I'm a rich man ripping off the poor by having a government subsidy
- Part of my cost reduction is only due to reducing usage (which I've never refuted)
- So by being more energy efficient, I'm bad
- The system will still never pay itself off
- Nobody else will ever be able to afford these things
- Its just a toy for me to feel good about myself
How quickly these decrepit old fucks forget that their electronics used to cost 6 months' salary and can now be bought for peanuts (relatively speaking).
Meanwhile, they're all claiming to be poor, yet paying subscriber fees to a newspaper that is just an echo chamber for their baby boomer rubbish. One guy even said "God has blessed Australia with fossil fuels. We should use them!"

What a retard. We should sell them.

@taniwharugby That's why I wouldn't invest in Tesla. Volkswagen AG has the engineers, testing tracks and experience in proving concepts. Ditto Toyota, etc.
I'll change my mind when I see Tesla at Le Mans...

Interesting way to look at it.
I'd say Tesla have done something important in proving a concept: from the Roadster to now, and soon the Model 3, there doing OK.
Now every other manufacturer is getting in on the action. And who can blame VW after their publicised diesel scandals?

Jeebus, Nick's put on the beef. Nice sun tan though

Sweet!
Out of interest, how much do you guys pay in NZ for electricity in terms of connection fee per day and per-kWh price? Is it mostly single-rate, or do you have access to time-of-use tariffs (off-peak/shoulder/peak) and controlled load for hot water?
The energy efficiency program they mention in the article is a key part - the best way to save on electricity is to not use it at all. But around these parts we're fairly shit at double glazing and thermal building materials. I look at some of the stuff they do on Grand Designs UK and am insanely jealous.
Need to get up in my roof space and cover the downlights, now I think of it.
Also the exhaust fans in the bathroom need a bit of this:

Around $1-$2 per day for fixed use charges, 22-24c per kWh (NZ$) for fixed rates, more variable for night rates etc.
Most power companies offer a range of plans, so all options in your post are available.
