wheels coming off...damn it was hoping for at least a competitive one
Yeah Canterbury... make a game of it ...

This was supposed to be a super clash between arguably the two strongest teams in the competition. I only see one strong team tonight. Come on Naki! That Shield must circulate!
Seriously was thinking the same thing... 24 point lead ... you wouldn't have thunk it

If Taranaki wins the Shield tonight, they already have a challenge on Wednesday. From Manawatu. Whoever wins that game, keeps the Shield until next season.
Go go Manawatu!
(People domiciled in 1970s/80s Manawatu will get that reference)

Canterbury coached by Delaney reminds me of the Crusaders coached by Blackadder. All the talent without the performance.
Glad Delaney is fucking off to the highlanders... we've been uninspiring this year against the better teams
giving up 55 points in a shield challenge is disgraceful. No ficking pride in the jersey.
Ngatai looked fat, but was awesome. Why doesn't tamanivulu get a chance for the abs?
We've missed Luke Whitelock heaps more than I expected.
He's had a chance before, he just didn't stand out enough for continued selection. He runs a bit hot and cold - he's been running pretty hot this year though.

Oi! The All Blacks can keep their grubby hands off our players thank-you very much. Bad enough they had a crack at Riccitelli earlier in the year.
It's hard enough putting dynasty together being outside of the big 4 without the AB's also poaching all our talent.

Yeah, but Tamanivalu got his chance only as a midfielder. I'd like to see him get a run in the 14 jersey. Obviously, only if Dagg isn't playing.

I have one issue with the Poo possibly winning. Unless they also get promoted there is a stronger likelihood next year of Waikato (demoted) getting their grubby hands back on the Shield.
THIS Waikato team? With the crossover games every team has the chance of a RS challenge. Except Ta$man, of course!

We were talking about that tackle during the game. It was a shocking miss
But If that's the reason for him not making the abs then it's pretty harsh. Dagg has missed tackles like that consistently over his whole career.

Odds of a challenge increase within divisions.
That's enough for me to worry.
The two teams I hate holding the Shield are the red and black inbreds and the Mooloos

That's why Canterbury was never winning this game. If they had - Ta$man might actually have got a challenge next year!
FFS!!!!

Agreed, Cantab. But I guess the price he'll pay for his early departure and possibly having taken his eye off the ball, is a Shield-losing legacy, potentially combined also with dropping an NPC title.
Was nice being Super Rugby, NPC champs and Shield holders while it lasted. Hopefully now we can overcome potentially a tough finals run and win another title.
Not overly surprised we lost this game as that's a rock star provincial level backline that Taranaki has. Well played, Naki.
-
Yes, an ideal candidate. A Cantab guy returning home with plenty of head coach experience coupled with international head coach experience at age group level. Probably won't even have to front up any relocation costs which is also a tick in Mr. Philpott's favour.
-
@higgins Haha, not sure they'd want him though. When Robertson vacated his desk, he didn't want the job. He had put all his cards on the Crusaders gig, missed out, and indicated not to be interested in an assistant-coach role. I think Tabai Matson is a more likely candidate, if he wants to, now that he has returned to NZ for family reasons. Don't think there are any SR roles available, apart from that high performance coach role vacated at the Highlanders.
But by all means, hire Philpott!
