went for my first ride since the iron man this morning, 45km. Felt like it went shit. No speed, and anything even resembling a hill fucking sucked. Somehow the stats at the end were pretty quick though, which was weird.
Have started following a few pro cyclists on Strava, and have been watching their TdF prep. Andre Greipel did a 228km ride the other day, at an average speed of 47km an hour. I can peddle that fast, without a hill for assistance, for about 300m. Couple of days later he did 110km at an average speed around 34km and i thought "ah yea, that's a bit more realistic" until i looked at the ride profile. He did 2,500m of climbing that day. Fucking hell!
And Greipel isn't even a climber!
Precisely - a sprinter!

Running sux and I'm pretty sure it's quite far down the list of ideal cardio exercises these days. I like to be in good enough shape for a good sprint around with the boys but to the idea of actually going for a run fills me with horror.
While I have done a lot of it, that is for weight loss and not fitness.
However, its worth knowing you can trot out a lazy 5km in half an hour to make sure you're ready for the Zombie apocalypse.
I think once I get to weight I'll be doing less distance running and increasing sprint work. More power, better muscle, shorter time frame for the same outcome.

Training on the weekend consisted of a golden oldies game of rugby. Fun to have the boots on again. Surprisingly hard on the body even though nothing too serious.
-
@mariner4life no fitness like match fitness.
-
Played a golden oldies tournament on saturday. have fuuuuucked my back. Can't stand upright. my upper body leans away to the right, and no amount of will power will straighten it up, very weird to look at. Physio is half an hour.
Rugby is an idiotic sport

After a good Pilates session you could get run over by a tank and bounce back fine I reckon.

The actual evidence for pilates vs any other sort of progressed exercise program done correctly is 'no difference'
"On Friday 13th October 2017 Health Minister Greg Hunt announced a reform package under sweeping Turnbull government changes. Many of these changes will benefit us on a personal level. However, this reform does present some significant changes to the public’s ability to claim on Pilates, taking effect from April 2019.
From 2019, private health insurance will no longer cover natural therapies, including aromatherapy, Bowen therapy, Buteyko, Feldenkrais, herbalism, homeopathy, iridology, kinesiology, naturopathy, Pilates, reflexology, Rolfing, shiatsu, tai chi and yoga.
This move comes after a recent review by the Commonwealth Chief Medical Officer found there was no clear evidence of the efficacy of these therapies. An expert committee will be established to consider the issue of ballooning and often opaque out-of-pocket costs..
The PAA will continue the major initiative of ‘Promoting Pilates as a Profession’. Our goal is to lobby government bodies, skilled services and the general public on our profession, education standards and ethics. We will combine with promoting clinical based research on the Pilates Method.
I understand that this is a significant announcement. Please be mindful that the impact for your clients may be minimal given the current rebate level. I will keep you informed of any further information I receive.
Regards, Jen xx
PAA President"

True, you're not the target market.
And like sex and haircuts I never pay for it.

Also this isnt saying pilates isn't beneficial. Any form of exercise is beneficial.

Definitely but some exercises suit others better. No way on earth I'd be doing Pilates if I wasn't banging the instructor but hand on heart I can say it has helped quite a bit.

Did you ever get with a hairdresser on Tinder? That would have been convenient.
Pilates instructor preferable though.
So did you delete the app or do you have a sneaky wee look at your past glories now and then?

Sure did, she said I had a nice do and no, the app is gone now. I miss the thrill of it occasionally.
