Out of curiosity, why does this trigger people so much that they have to show their outrage online?
I've never quite got that.
Who do you mean? The people commenting on it?
Not the comments as such but the "angst' it seems to cause to the people it doesn't involve?
I maybe misreading the "angst" though
If they go full retard, we are fucked.
How so? I see things like this and then look at my everyday life and never see it impacted. To me it is always only read.
I do get the kid thing though but to me I just see that is change in the same way change is never really liked by the older of those having to change
There's definitely an element of people being against change as they don't like any change. Lots of things in the west have changed for the better - gay rights for example - despite opposition from some.
But with companies like Google, the philosophy behind what they espouse can be particularly damaging to society as it extremely pernicious. It's essentially the same philosophy that drove Stalin and Mao which led to people's rights being taken away (free speech etc), and the enslavement and deaths of many millions of people.
Could that happen again in western countries? I don't know, but I'm not really willing to find out by letting these ideas spread again, we've done the 'Marxist' experiment in various forms already and paid for it dearly. We've got the best system going in the history of humanity, and I will oppose anyone that wants to tear that down.
I hear that, but I'm not concerned about it.
To me, it just seems that there is always something new that comes up the that causes angst which then causes angst by those that are against the original angst.
Rinse and repeat
Probably more concerning to me is the direction our Universities are heading. Two things there - one they are indoctrinating a lot of students into a radical left wing ideology. Those students then go out into the real world and instead of contributing they just cause trouble. Secondly, because of this the Universities are losing credibility at a rate of knots as it gets exposed, to the point that if they don't arrest the situation I can see many of them collapsing - that (in my opinion) is a very bad thing for society.
Now I am playing devils advocate a bit (previously I wasn't)
A very bad thing for our current society, yes, I agree, but for future society, if the majority want that?
because this ideology has been proven time and time again to lead to the deaths of millions and the collapse of society.
i.e Stalin and MaoHa! I just read that earlier in the thread and had forgotten by the time I wrote the above.
I hear you.
If I can keep playing DA for sake of curiosity, if it didn't lead to utter want for genocide, i.e. we (they) found a way to live by these terms, which we don't currently like, is it a bad thing?
Nope, and history has proven it to be so, part of me often just wonders if we are just the old generation whinging about the 'youth of today'. But some times history shows the 'youth of today' do grow up to be complete fuckwits who destroy countries/civilizations and kill millions.
I think my baseline for 'goodness' is freedom of the individual from tyranny and freedom of speech. If you are moving away from that, you are heading towards dark places.
And I genuinely think we are getting closer to tyranny,Well, you're definitely a grumpy old bastard. But in this case the wife and I are millennial's and are right with you, so not just old people whinging

@jegga unfortunately I doubt I will get to that as I only fern at work and can't watch that in the office.
I have heard many times that, that bloke Rogen is reasonably good/funny
No worries, he is pretty funny and interesting unless he’s talking about dope and then he is tedious .
I normally listen to podcasts in my ute on the way to and from work . I’m really surprised Radio is still a thing these days.

@no-quarter you’re a millennial? You guys are as irritating as halfbacks.

More I think about it after reading your posts, I tend to agree.
I am thinking as a collective and that doesn't work for humans as people will find power through deceit.
Circling back to the original post, do you think this is a sound bite in time that will be quickly dismissed/forgotten or are you genuinely worried for your kids? What I mean, do you not think this will sort it self out by right decisions at right levels eventually?
I can be more selfish and not care as much as it won't really affect me (or you) in our lifetimes significantly.
This particular soundbite will probably be forgotten by tomorrow, but it's part of a wider picture.
I think you have a good attitude to this overall. Without a doubt all of the political stuff would be causing increased anxiety and depression among a lot of people that get deep into it. It's important to remember that social media ≠ real life 99% of the time.
Nice to have you join into the debate in the Politics forum though, instead of just moderating it while shaking your head.

This is the biggest thing for me. I genuinely feel sorry for those that feel so affected by politics (especially NZ politics)
For me in the past 30 years, not one elected government has made me feel worse/better off. I've never woken up thinking I need to change or will be changed by a current government, even though I only ever vote one way.
Yet I see some be full of angst by govt decisions that will never have impact on them but it is just because the govt has made that decision. It's those people/freinds I pity
I tend not to moderate Politics forum unless something is flagged.

You're a millennial?
You're dead to me now.
This article has some good insights into why you curmudgeonly old bastards hate my generation.
"What it boils down is that many millennials, the ones that many hate, believe that the best thing that has ever happened to them hasn't happened yet. For older generations, many believe that their best days are behind them. And this is why so many hate millennials"

@Rembrandt these are their demands
The first four are easy. That doesn't mean the outcomes are what they hope they'll be. The fifth, no way an American organisation permit would an employee representative on the board.
- If you report it and don't want to resolve it or have it investigated. It goes nowhere.
- Easily done. Pay grades. Bonuses for people who provide efficiencies and bring profitable projects into BAU/ market. Don't work on those projects, see point one above and complain you were discriminated.
- Report: 843 unsubstantiated allegations where the complainant refused to engage and provide additional information or work to a resolution.
- Key word here is anonymous. Do so and it gets reported in point three under "baseless allegation".

If you are indeed a Millennial (you seem far too reasonable, sensible and, above all, literate) are you typical or an outlier?

Assume that you are talking about @No-Quarter there. I said the same thing but that is enough smoke blown up that young pricks ass. He still knows nothing and won't amount to anything. Young punk.
Definitely an outlier. The younger generation are all idiots.
