What a mess.
No reason you couldn’t make an awesome Star Trek film for 80 million. It doesn’t need Star Wars like space battles every five minutes.
Write a good story, and make the brand stand out instead of copying what Disney is doing.
The producers should sit down and watch Wrath of Khan

@Kirwan It sounds like the new Picard show will replace Discovery, but it will have the same convoluted licensing agreements dictating content ...
That sounds like wishful thinking on your part. Everything I’ve heard about the Picard show so far doesn’t scream marquee Trek show. They are trying something new there, I’m expecting a small quirky show.

Or even the voyage home. Not effects heavy, simple story, well told.

The new Star Trek has not grabbed me. For now, I will stick with The Orville, while waiting for the new series of Lost In Space for my space-fixes

Have been really enjoying the Orville. Very TNG.

Ok, I’ll take a look.
First Discovery spin off announced, Star Trek Blackops (untitled so far) with Michel Yeoh. Stories about section 31.
I thought she was good, in both parts. Her, and the new Pike, I like as they are mature instead of having kids running around.
That’s the main thing missing from the casting compared to TOS and TNG is actors that look like adults. That look like they could be in charge of starships. Was particularly bad for Kelvin Spock.

Took a look, it was interesting. Lots of wishful thinking and guessing from rumours.
It’s not news that Discovery could get cancelled if the ratings are poor. That’s a given for any show, especially an expensive one. So it’s a bit of a stretch to say Picard is being lined up to replace Discovery.
Picard could end up being very divisive as well, particularly if the replace the Prime canon and do a character based study type show (for example).
That said, I agreed with the criticisms about how identify politics were over used (something I’m having to suffer through with Doctor Who as well). One small beacon of hope there is Pike seems to be a more traditional character, particularly from what I gleaned from the actor interview.
TOS style uniforms look so much better than the blue jumpsuits that I hope they switch at some point too.
Don’t agree the main character is a Mary Sue. She makes too many mistakes for that to be true.
I hope we end up with several Star Trek shows that cater to different tastes. And I really hope the business interests don’t end up nerfing the old canon.
