I probably think that as I see in them, what most people see in NZ fans.
Passion?
Only one of a handful of countries with rugby as the national sport - although Namibia seems to be the only one that has declared it in law (along with football and netball).
Some all it passion. I call it one-eyed, need to move on from the past, blinkered bullshit.
I'm hardly a Disney employee myself, but I can't think of a more miserable bunch of people than the Welsh ...
Wrong to stereotype, but I was on a train back from Cardiff quite a few years ago when Wales had beaten Ireland in the Six Nations decider and also grabbed a Grand Slam. There was a particularly obnoxious (drunken) Welsh fella who was desperately rubbing salt in the wounds. Train packed with Irish and they simply refused to be riled. I remember one, who was a big lad, saying in response to the little Welsh git, 'No need for that, just enjoy your day in the sun'.
And after the Dublin upset last November the locals simply refused to let me buy a drink (much Guinness). There's certainly a 'type' of Irish fans who are great blokes.
They sounds like a bunch of piston wristed gibbons not even selling you drinks just because you're a kiwi.
-
My experience is that most rugby fans you meet, whatever nationality, seem to be pretty good people on the whole. The thing is now that it is getting more difficult to separate these good blokes from all the online warriors.

Or a bunch of VERY generous winners. Saw SGH in Lansdowne Club late in evening and he'd certainly been the recipient of similar.

I just hope the winner doesn't do it courtesy of a blatantly dodgy referee or TMO decision, or some obscure rule
I'm still not over the CWC (will I ever be?) I don't think I could handle something similar for the RWC!

I don't want to have to buy a new TV

The other thing for me and it only comes up at RWC time, if the ABs are knocked out I don’t really want to watch any more of the tournament.
I’m rugby mad as the next person and watch 6Ns and plenty of non-NZ tests every year, but the RWC is different.
After NZ lost to OZ in 91 in the semi I refused to watch the final. Still to this day I have only ever seen the odd brief highlight. 99 didn’t watch the final.
2007 I think I watched part of the England semi-final win and that was it.The only time was in 2003 when the day of the final went out and bought an England jersey because I watched the final with a bunch of Aussies. Great night.

France

Ireland.
Exactly my choices, although Wales would be my first preference if we didn't win it. I would be cheering for a first-time winner.
I doubt I'd watch it though...
-
@ACT-Crusader Glad I'm not the only one. I never watched the 1991, 1999 and 2003 finals. I only watched the 2007 RWC final under sufferance, in Paris no less, but I fuckin' hated it.

Once we are out the tourney is over for me. I might have caught snippets but did not sit down to watch any of the finals we didn't make. Hell, I haven't even watched 2011 and we won that one

I'm not quite that extreme but Wayne Barnes ruined rugby for me in some ways. I had tickets to the semi and didn't even sell them. There were two empty seats in Paris.
I rarely pay to go to live games anymore. I f'ing hate that guy and I'm not convinced that it was all above board either. -

Honest question:
Have you ever seen a rugby match where a team only gave away 2 penalties?

In a time when penalties were the order of the day.
In fairness to Wayne-O, I don't think it was underhanded; I think he (and Bryce for that matter) just bottled it on the big stage and swallowed their whistle.
Personally, my rugby passion dropped back for a few years - I think due to poor media (ALL BLACK THUGS) and then exacerbated by reality distortion fields around some fans (Lions fans redefining offside I'm looking at you). I dunno, it's just felt like the supporters have tended to go more divisive and Wendyball than classic rugby fan.
Still a bunch of GCs around, but drowned out sometimes by fluffybunny muppets.

I at least sold my SF and finals tickets for a profit, so that lessened the pain a little, but only a little bit.
I was very tempted to say something to a smiling O'Brien outside Stade de France before the SF after his comments but thought better of it.

I have some quite specific words that I would have used, and then said "pardon my French". Might well have been rubbing my knuckles too.

You're probably correct.
Barnes should never have been there though and Paddy has to take responsibility for that - and his stupid comments afterwards. You really don't want to travel half way around the world, spend thousands of dollars and have the local under 10's bloke ref a match in front of what was a very vocal French (home) crowd.

My view on that is a little slanted. My ex neighbours brother's name was Bryce Lawrence (not the referee). The old bloke (70+) received death threat calls in the middle of the night from SA fans going off their head. He died not long after, was going to happen anyway but pretty f'd up.
Probably what stops me from giving Wayne a call even now.
