Falling Inn Love. (The NZ-set Netflix one)
Yikes. Ok, scenery is gorgeous, and a bunch of ex-Shorties got a paycheque. Other than that, ummmmmm. If you took a shot for every NZ slang term shoehorned in, you would die. The plot is beyond ridiculous (one contractor and one newbie renovate an entire derelict two-storey BnB...in two months.) Also, the small town folk do shit like offer a foreigner 90 day store credit to rack up bills to pay for renovation supplies. And they are all clumsy.
Don't even bother with this, it's not fit to smooch Always Be My Maybe's boots. Unfunny, terrible dialogue, idiot plot is not saved by aforementioned gorgeous scenery and a few cute moments.
Ok, for my sins (I got out-voted, although TBF I was curious to see how bad it was) I watched this movie.
Oh my god it's awful - for all @Mokey mentions above and more. For one they live in the most bustling rural town ever that somehow has a bus stop on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. Seriously it's so bustling that the local cafe is always packed and any town shot has multitudes of people walking around the streets at any given time.
You can hear the Aussie dude doing his best Kiwi accent, TBF most of the rest of the world will have no idea, but they shoehorn that he went to Uni in Oz just in case I presume. I think the Aussie probably said 90% of the above mentioned Kiwi slang.
Presumably showing how rural it is, no shop in the town has a cash register made after 1930 and none of them have eftpos. This is despite the fact that the "Inn" way out in the sticks has high speed internet and half the characters have iPhones.
Listen to @Mokey and don't be a dumb arse like me and watch it out of curiosity. The chick is hot though.

@Nepia There are a billion cringe moments - but oh my god, the oooooh bright shiny exotic AMERICAN shit nearly made me spew. Also the 'you're one of us now! You are whanau!'
Hahaha, yeah, you can add anything that Rangi from Shortland St said.

My wife has seen the preview for this and has decided we should watch it. I'm doing everything I can to convince her otherwise but she won't listen. How do I stop her?

@No-Quarter Do what you must. Nothing is as bad as this movie. All she'll get out of it is the 3 second shirtless dude moment, but that can be found online. Seriously. SAVE YOURSELF.
-
@No-Quarter Can you sleep with your eyes open?
Alternatively, watch it as a drinking game. Drink every time there's some NZ cliche, everytime they fake argue, etc etc.
You wont last half an hour before you coma out.
Failing that do you have a good divorce lawyer?
-
or just ensure she notes your strong opposition for it, for future reference.
-
@No-Quarter I watch that, you watch this? Maybe chose porn?
-
Dark Phoenix - a prequel of sorts for X Men focussing on Jean (Sansa Stark)
Although a character that appears in later (made earlier, set later) movies was killed in this one, so not sure how that works given I'm not a massive X Men fan.

Negotiate a particularly filthy sex act as a reward for sitting through it with her or since you’re married and the concept of sex outside of your birthday might be laughable insist that she sit through your choice of movie too .
My suggestion would be Avengement , it’s a British gangster film on Netflix. It’s basically one long fight scene with curb stompings , prison napalm , amputations and stabbings.

Rambo: Last Blood opened this weekend.
Anybody see it? -
Stating the obvious, but for more accurate movie ratings, IMDB user reviews are a far better guide than Rotten Tomato critics.
Sample of critic reviews of Rambo.
The MAGA fever dream of "Rambo: Last Blood"
Right wing "Rambo" propaganda is alive and well in "Last Blood"...is less an escapist action movie and more a dramatized manifestation of the most notorious sentences from Donald Trump's presidential campaign announcement speech."
"An unwatchable piece of excrement."
"Rambo was always a product of Republican policy, and his sore loser, crybaby, murder fantasy is a daringly accurate reflection of the state of the Republican Party circa 2019."
"Little more than a soft-core snuff film"
"Jingoism is expected, but 'Last Blood' takes extreme patriotism and adds a vulgar 2019 MAGA design flair to it."

I don't think that's necessarily true or obvious, my mate only watches films based on IMDB ratings and he watches some average films because of it and misses some decent ones.
And if you want to go the political route, IMDB have had to modify their voting system like others because of bloc voting by people who often haven't seen the movie - best examples of this is the Armenian Genocide movie where the Turks and Armenians were just voting 10 or 0 and Captain Marvel which the Youtube comic movies gang bloc voted down before it was released.
TBF, I never chose to watch a movie based on either method, I'm probably more inclined to see or not see movies based on small subsets of critics I like. I also don't watch previews so that adds to the lottery.
