@chimoaus that sucks, sorry to hear. I just recently handed in my notice for my secure, 8 till 5 council job, to work at a school as we are prioritising our kids. Like your job, no school, no pay. At least it is ICT based and I may well get more done when there are no kids there, at least for a month or so! But not great timing by me....

Why does this not surprise me.
Following the government’s announcement to ban non-essential gatherings of over 500 people, Crown Casino has limited their bar, nightclub, restaurant and conference facilities across the massive complex to just 450, according to a statement on Monday.
They have shut down half of their pokies to implement social distancing.

Any other blokes considering shaving their arse to use less toilet paper? Regional Australia town has no toilet paper anywhere. Lined up outside supermarket this morning and they didn't even have a delivery. They said probably nothing until Thursday. I almost think the Govt may need to setup depots with essentials and ID used to stop panic buying. Lots of older people most be struggling to get basics.
Get a bloody bidet you fucking savages.
BOGOF and get a Jap power dunny?

Awesome to see BBC still sending their reporters and crews out all over the country to interview businesses and people self isolating. Genius stuff.
Don't be astonished! It's really important someone is there at the plastic container making factory in Lancashire to bring us the news that they're asking employees to stay home if they're feeling unwell and to wander the floor talking to everyone about how they feel about what's going on, plus talk to the big boss and make sure they stick a big furry Mike in their face.
How would we find out about this important stuff otherwise?
The media - inc. the BBC - haven't covered themselves in glory have they? Some of the sensationalist click-bait stuff in the Daily Mail, Guardian & even The FT really isn't helping. Bit of a contrast to the politicians who seem to be handling this really well.
Have been impressed by BoJo, Sturgeon and the opposition Health spokesman. Dealling with facts, being honest with the public and not pandering to group-think cant be easy for them....

I am a contract worker in the education sector, looks like I am out of work for the time being, schools have cancelled their sessions. No sessions no pay for me, no sick leave, no holidays. My other hustle is photography, not going to be any weddings any time soon. Hmm, might have to try and get a job at a toilet paper factory.
Toilet paper is a myth. It no longer exists. Check the Supermarkets and see if they have any.

Is there possibility of increased workload as schools look to cast lessons to students at home?

It looks as if the slow roll out of testing the U.S. means the number are severely unreported and the speed up in testing that is occurring now is going to lead to a massive surge in the number of reported cases there.

(BTW - I find Axios a really good site. To the point and seemingly less partisan than other US news sources)

It does seem to me that we are not doing nearly enough at the moment. It seems inevitable that we will get a spike in cases, and if we do then no doubt the government will enforce further measures to contain it. But the horse will have bolted by then, why not take the lead from countries that are managing it fairly well? We just seem to be BAU apart from asking people to "self isolate".

NZ secondary schools sport had canned it's national events
BTW could this please be moved to Off Topic, because it certainly isn't political. I've blocked this sub forum
Agree, this is a great source of information and general discussion from a Kiwi POV. Should move it to Off-Topic so people don't miss it, and just cull/move any overly political posts.

South Korea's testing regime is an example to all. Drive in, swab, and ten minutes later have text with result!
But unless the embers are ALL extinguished, in the absence of a vaccine it will reoccur in due course.

Good to see some newspapers offering sensible advice.
"How to build a gaming PC for 2020
AMD or Nvidia? Hard disk or solid state? We ask the experts what should be inside your dream machine for this year and the future"

@Victor-Meldrew Good to see the classic Fractal Design Define case being used. Hook your gaming pc up to your TV and you can do high quality video processing and neural network upscaling of movies to 4k.
https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=146228
It will look a lot better than the internal media player on those unofficial downloads.
