At no point should anything be reliant on common sense.
Last night I got my first 'drink this virus-blasting home remedy and you'll be fine' group email, and I rage screeched like an air raid siren. People are fucking idiots, which wouldn't be so bad if they only hurt themselves, but they trot out, ignore science and hurt others also.

@canefan from my side of the fence the cabin is far enough away that it wont impact me...guess I could always narc on them if I see them going out
They're actually allowed to go out. Just not to busy places. Can still go for a run, hike etc. Can even go to the supermarket if necessary!
The supermarket is the only debatable one there. I reckon it should be okay if you are mindful about touching and coughing on stuff but I don't think it's on the list of places you are meant to go.

On a serious note, I imagine mental health issues will spike with being isolated, not being able to engage with community groups, financial pressure etc. Keep a look out for your mates and loved ones.
On telly yesterday Jacinda talked about that. It was a major feature of Taiwan's strategy too. This is a collective battle, everyone pitching together, trying not to feel emotionally isolated etc.

@voodoo yeah I know...but I have no love for Israelis, of the ones I have met in my life, arrogant fucks to a man #sterotypingtothemax
Generalisations are time efficient.

@canefan I know some people have an issue with Jacinda but fuck me I would have her in a heart beat over Scomo.
She is showing heart and compassion and that is what is required right now. And she is generally making good choices. Helps to have good experts and taking their advice

What the fuck is Boris doing?
Herd immunity is all very fine. But containment is important because too many people getting sick at the same time will overwhelm your health system. Doctors in Italy are being forced to choose who gets to live and who gets to die because there aren’t enough ventilators available, yet they appear to be encouraging the spread. History will judge if Boris’ gamble pays off

I've been running past my local at opening time the last few days, its getting significant. These are mostly elderly and disabled as the store only opens for them in the first hour. Even so there were some crowd issues, there was also some people coughing pretty loud..expect cases to rise.

Combine with Brexit, and you have either two massive own goals, or two sublime winners against all expectation.
As you say, time will tell...

Yeah it looks like they have massively expanded the official guidance online, and while it doesn't ban the supermarket explicitly, it makes it clearer that you should avoid.
We get to NZ tomorrow touch wood. Have accom booked for about 16 days, and a mammoth Countdown order due to arrive on Day 2. "Contactless Delivery" selected. We plan on staying well away from everyone, though I definitely will be running every day.
Only thing I have to figure out is transport to our digs. The guidance says avoid taxis which makes sense. So I could hire a car, but that means spending 10mins taking to the poor person at that counter.? Guess that's preferable, assume they'll be masked up.

Put in the harshest terms they are sacrificing people now in order to save lives later. In theory Britain could be the first European country through the other side of this, risky af. But at this point no one can say what the best long term strategy will be.

@Rembrandt what I can't figure out is why you'd wait for the doors to open WHILE STANDING SHOULDER TO SHOULDER IN A CROWD.
FFS.
Wait in your car, enter in an orderly fashion ... really people?
Decades of living in luxury. People are scared and maybe there is a case that we don't have the community we once had, I don't know. I'm guessing no-one here is old enough to remember the last food shortages in a western country?

I hate the uncertainty of this, I feel like we are guinea pigs.

It runs against everyone who is beating this thing. My advice is stay away from people. Clean hands lots. Living in population dense areas you might wanna get a mask or some sort of barrier for droplets
