Of the 15 horse tracks in the USA with race meetings scheduled today, 14 of them were cancelled, and the one is already completed. Guess that means Iβll be watching Geelong, Menangle and Rockhampton tonight. (Does anything stop race meets in Oz?)
God willing, no

In Australia hairdressers (and beauticians) are being deemed essential.
where are you getting that? We're not at lockdown and "essential services" yet.

Card starts at 10:30 PM EDT (New York) and 7:30 PM PDT (Los Angeles). Itβs the only live sports action you can see right now. I wonder if their betting receipts will be increased. Or maybe people are sitting on their wallets right now...

Not sure if this goes here or the fitness thread.
Absolutely speechless.
Health Minister.
TBF, she's probably had to try all the treatments first hand.

That makes no sense at all to me
Indeed.

Christ! We have got it so good compared to other countries.
I've been training a girl in India for the last week for work via video chat and things are going downhill there super fast.
She's only young like 27 and is living in Bangalore which is a solid 14 hour train from her family. Curfews and lockdowns have begun. But they don't seem super well thought out.
They are only allowed to go to the grocery shop at certain hours, so last night she had no food and she had to queue for an hour to get in (me thinks this might just spread the illness). On top of that she's just discovered because of the lockdown their supply of drinking water has been cut, the people delivering it aren't allowed to any more. She can probably boil water and live off that but by jesus any wankstain celebrating this needs a reality check.

@dogmeat no shit! Unnecessary, and super-close proximity to people
laugh it up, my friend just layed all her staff off and is close to shutting her salon, because people are cancelling their appointments hand over fist

whoa, I'm definitely not laughing - just not sure that this should be deemed essential if this shutdown is as necessary as the authorities are telling us it is.
Its a deadset disaster for stacks of people, nothing funny about it

as i said, we are not at "essential services" stage yet. The government has been very clear about that. What they have shut down are places where lots of people congregate. The full lock down is coming, probably this week. And then the beauty shops will go too.
However that hasn't stopped people taking themselves away from the salon, with good reason.
so, to your original point, Australia isn't classing hair salons as "essential" they are just not places where lots of people get together under the same roof.

@mariner4life ah, that makes much more sense then, my bad
Shit times.

I've only read the head line and first few sentences, but this is why I am glad I am in NZ over these types of countries. This wouldn't happen here.

the fucking worst.
for most, that only became apparent yesterday.
to have a million people lose their jobs (govt figures now) with the double whammy of the health fear, it's almost unbearable for some. And for it all to happen so quickly as well.
