Coronavirus - New Zealand

I think many are shit scared of being put back into L4, even though I cannot see us doing so again even with a 2nd wave, equal to or worse than our 'worst' days with almost 100 a day.
Our economy would not survive (I realise it it in hospital at present...)

We will sail into level 1. The major test will be when we open up our borders
-
@canefan yeah the borders is key...I see calls for opening up some PI given some have come through well too, but that isnt what will help our economy, opening it to AUs will be what NZ needs for that...but until Aus is clear, it is too risky IMO now we have come this far.

As usual, we can't trust those aussie critters 😉

Social distancing pretty much ended a week ago and it’s starting to pop up in schools ... yep, might be better not to trust those critters.

Another day, another donut...So is it 1 new case in 14 days?
Be great for that last active case to clear up, then it is surely a matter of time before NZ is officially CV free?
-
@taniwharugby Yep, the last confirmed case is from Friday, 22 May (9th consecutive day of no new cases). The one before that was on Sunday, 17 May. The only new cases should be from overseas travel and - if quarantine works well - not lead to further transmission. Hopefully. Unless they open up the Trans- Ta$man bubble too early, of course, and we get new infections from Australia.

Media release
01 June 2020Once again, there are no new cases of COVID-19 to report in New Zealand. This is the 10th consecutive day of no new cases.
Our total number of confirmed cases remains at 1,154, which is the number we report to the World Health Organization.
Our combined total of confirmed and probable cases remains at 1,504.
The number of recovered cases is unchanged at 1,481. Only one case remains active.
There are no additional deaths to report.
There is no one in New Zealand receiving hospital-level care for COVID-19.
-
Wow, that is superb news... @Tim what are your thoughts on what this means for us and CV?
Was it June 8 the next level review? Huge pressure now to return to 'normal' now?
Have to assume there have been plenty of unreported cases who have all recovered, but it's the fact we have zero cases right now, have to assume anyone feeling flu like symptoms would have sought medical advice already too?

When did the plane load of film guys arrive from LA? You'd hope everyone of them was tested?
The Level 1 no later than 22nd, but Bloomfield etc want the full 2 cycles (28 days) in level 2. So I am not sure if we'll get Level 1 on/announced the 8th. But maybe back to the original L2 100 indoors/500 outdoors? Either way I am certainly leaning into getting to L1, and testing everyone, crew whoever, that steps off a plane or ship. And the quarantine until 14 days (or clear result for aircrew) - Aircrew are our biggest risk, as they don't have to quarantine

Two of my patients are Air NZ aircrew. I saw them last week and they said they are quarantining. One went to Sydney recently, had to quarantine 14 days in Oz on arrival, then came home and quarantined 14 days in NZ. But I do agree that incoming passengers should be forcibly quarantined, no honesty shit

This is very concerning
And dum dum Phil Twyford appears to be at the centre of it. If these americans are responsible for kicking off a fresh wave, and if we go into lockdown as a result, I will be sending Cindy and her bunch of idiots the bill for my lost earnings
-
@canefan Well they are following the normal 14 day rules, same as the other couple of thousand people who have been let in - German sewerage workers, special cases. I don't like it, but hopefully the 14 days will sort it. I really hope they just test everyone who steps off a place or boat, but I don't think they do

Incoming passengers shouldn't be free to roam amongst the general population. That's asking for trouble

@canefan How's that the fault of the Minister? It's the hotel that didn't organise things properly and kept them apart. That is, if it really happened as that person in the QT Hotel describes (I always take those stories with a grain of salt).

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says Cabinet will decide on whether New Zealand should enter Covid-19 alert level 1 on June 8, earlier than previously signalled. Previously, Ardern has said the latest such a decision would come was June 22. New Zealand could be in level 1 as early as June 10, "as long as we keep seeing the results we're seeing now," she said on RNZ's Morning Report. "There are very few restrictions [under Alert level 1], it's border controls - and they remain critical - and public health measures," Ardern said.

True. Personal accounts are often unreliable, the so called "unnamed source"

Reading between the lines on this, and knowing the layout, I would say that it simply wasn’t anticipated that guests staying in the apartment wing would decide to enter through the hotel side lobby while check in was happening. They have their own entrance.
If they were really concerned why did they walk through a confined space full of other people anyway? Especially when they had a safer option. That the other people had just entered the country just adds another element.
Maybe the MoH and hotel should have ensured that no one else came through that way but It could also have been unlucky timing -
@Stargazer imagine being that 1 active case...haha
