I don't know why you wouldn't minimise the risk and shove them all in an empty barracks somewhere.

Like Te Rapa, hang on, no. Hobby, wait no, they demo'd them too.
Off to Waiouru and run the recruit courses out of Woodbourne!

2 new cases caught in isolation
and
Air New Zealand is going to "put a temporary hold on new bookings" to align with the Government's managed isolation facilities which are currently housing thousands of people.
Housing Minister Megan Woods, in charge of managed isolation facilities, said she met with Air New Zealand chief executive Greg Foran to discuss ways to jointly manage the big growth in Kiwis coming home.
"Air New Zealand has agreed to put a temporary hold on new bookings in the short term, as well as looking at aligning daily arrivals with the capacity available at managed isolation facilities," Dr Woods said on Tuesday.
-
@taniwharugby so being a citizen means fuck all now.
-
Can’t they just organise more facilities and more people to monitor more arrivals? We have armed forces who could step in don’t we? It still puzzles me how we can’t sort out large scale quarantine for overseas students. Mrs CF says Auckland Uni are getting a flood of enquiries from offshore students wanting to come here and study. What better way to kick start local economies by having them pay for quarantine then be a large bloc of people who need goods and services as soon as they emerge?
-
such is the state of our media, we need articles about what people are eating in isolation

So a person in isolation apparently left last night to go to the supermarket and has now our new positive test for today...

have we changed the meaning of isolation?

I honestly thought you were joking.
WTAF.
Prediction: no accountability for anyone in this system either. It'll be a 'sorry, we'll try better next time'. Unbelievable.

@nzzp question is, how the fuck did they get out?
The woman who escaped supposedly climbed a wall, how did this guy get out? SOunds like he just went for a stroll!
Seriously, if these fluffybunnies cant sit in a room for 14 days, then dont come home.
There is however an opportunity for an entreprenuer - go to these isolation hotels, put your card under the door and offer to buy stuff for them, and deliver it to thier doors so they stay the fuck put!

I'm really struggling to understand if there is something going on that is harder than I expect. I mean, we're dealing with 250 people a day at the moment, who are being confined. Is it that hard to prevent their movements and stop them interacting with each other? The sustained failure suggests that it is, but I can't see why other than a lack of competence in the organisers.
Australia's a whole other ball o'wax, with guards shagging detainees FFS.
I'm pretty pissed off actually. Border security is critical to keeping us C19 free. Honestly, if you put in perspective as 'potentially tens of billions of dollars if someone gets out and C19 gets away', it clarifies the scale of the stuffup. Or maybe I'm just getting grumpy in my old age.
-
i think a lot of of comes down to misguided faith in humanity, the belief that if you provide them a room and tell them they need to do this for the greater good that they will, im sure they weren't locking the doors or even having guards on each floor...people are the worst
the only thing stopping me going bush and becoming a hermit is my inability to grow a beard which i feel is a prerequisite

No you're not. Your position is logical.
Maybe having come from countries where COVID is much more widespread than it ever was here these few fuckwits simply don't get it.
Certainly they have no concept of acting in the greater good or gratitude for being in a C-19 free country.

@Kiwiwomble I think the success of our lockdown was the majority of people just got on and did what was required in the hope that we would come out of it sooner and better for it...although, we know in our lockdown, there were people that flouted the rules, but it wasnt such a big deal as Covid hadnt taken hold in our communities, now, we have people coming form places where it is rife, risking our whole countires wellbenign & economy because they cant stay in thier room for 14 days, cant go without a chocolate bar or whatever he got at the supermarket.
I think for the most part, people will do what is asked, but as always, a small number (2 we know of in the past week) have broken the rules, maybe there needs to be stricter controls on them, because of the fluffybunnies that cant behave.

that's fair, im probably a bit jaded being in Melbourne and seeing how its spreading
although, a small counter point, they changed the meaning of "literally" to include "figuratively"...which is Literally and antonym...so i still kind of think people are the worst

“Around 6.50pm the man escaped through a fenced area at the Stamford Plaza when he was out smoking, as a section of external fencing was being replaced,” head of managed isolation and quarantine Air Commodore Darryn Webb said.
See, they really need to make an example of someone ($2500 fine and 14 days in a jail cell would be a good deterrant) to show people that this will not be tolerated.
