She's brilliant. And spot on.

Something about kilts

So how is the UK TSF contingent getting on?
Things seems to be going along worryingly smoothly in Surrey. On weekdays roads are back to normal (they are still a bit more quiet on weekends), people are out and about in parks / playgrounds / canals etc and shopping areas are on the way back up. I popped into Guildford today (which is usually a bloody nightmare on Saturdays) and although parking was easy, the town was probably at 75-80%. A few shops have closed, although mainly those that I had no idea how they were open in the first place. We had to queue to get into a couple of stores, and everybody has masks on in shops.
So it kind of feels like it's passed us by now. I know that the post furlough redundancies are coming, and as the media gets back from holidays the fear is going to ramp up again so things will start to feel worse come September. But our kids will be going back to school (barring a government led shut down which seems exceedingly unlikely) and there are a few local job opportunities I see popping up. My neighbour who is a property developer can't get staff / trades again so that's back to normal.
The second wave is the big fear honestly, but I'm just not buying it. Yes, there has been an uptick in cases recently, but there has also been a large uptick in testing completed. Excess UK deaths have been negative now for 6 straight weeks & the hospital statistics (hospitalised / ICU / Ventilated patients) continue to drop to insignificant levels.
Cancer is again being pushed, and as it should. I had a really sad distant relative (by marriage) situation caused by Covid earlier this year. 8 weeks from diagnosis of stage 4 bowel cancer to death. 48 years old. Incredibly scary. To be fair to the NHS, she went from first seeking a doctor to diagnosis to first treatment in 72 hours, so they can't be at fault. IT was simply her ignoring the signs for too long. I truly worry how many others are out there with the same. Changes your perception on life when this happens. No need for sympathies either team TSF, not somebody I knew well at all, but a sister of somebody I would consider quite close. Just a reminder to keep a look out for yourselves and don't ignore the signs.
Anyway, back on topic, I guess with the heatwave over and cooler weather due the next couple of weeks (still can't believe I'm saying cooler weather when it's 23-26 degrees) it'll be interesting to see how things unravel. I can't see me being back in London until 2021 and even then, maybe only 1-2 days per week. I need to get to Europe though to see my colleagues there. I won't be surprised to look back at the end of 2021 to see I spent more days on the continent than I did in London! That is, if I can keep my job - I should be safe as we are a volume based business, and equity volumes are strong, and will remain strong as we go into US elections / phase 2 of Covid & Brexit. Fingers crossed.
So a shout out to the UK based ferners. Hope you are doing well, I'll be interested to hear. your guys thoughts on everything.

I'm completely flummoxed by the Government
What's their end game?
More people testing positive for Covid (increase in R rate) but no corresponding increase in D (death) rate
Hospitals empty
What are they worried about? -

Good thanks.
Aside from no money coming in - freelance photography work when I'm not teaching skiing - not much has changed in my world.
Still haven't had my haircut. It's a mess.
Lockdown in Llandeilo (rural Carmarthenshire, Wales) has been easy to be honest and not showing off.
If we do go back to stricter measures based on cases not deaths I think most people will say fuck off.
We all know it exists but the threat, in hindsight, has been vastly exaggerated IMHO.
The sad truth is if you haven't looked after yourself / have a familial genetic malady / are over 70 / all or some of these then it's going to hit you.
And it could hit you hard.
The rest of us. A couple of days of feeling unwell. Move on.

So yeah, still going bloody well for us really. Having moved a year ago out of a 1 bdrm flat in Twells with no outside space (via the in laws) into a 3 bdrm terraced in orps with a backyard straight off the living room patio doors we thank our lucky stars everyday. We narrowly escaped hell. Plus has been loads to do around this place to keep us busy - including setting up one of the bedrooms upstairs as an office for Bonesetta, as far away as possible from the one we already had in the "dining room".
My work usually takes me out and about the country most weeks (often at a few days or even less notice), so has been quite a big adjustment being home allll the fucken time, but we've settled in pretty well. I never realised how much it affected life, but it's been a massive positive change being able to plan things during the week, even little things like who's making morning coffee or what our meals are. I used to hate going out in weekends if I'd been away most of a week too, so it's nice to not get stressed about that. That was pretty much the reason I'd given up on rugby so it's cool to get back to that too.
With getting into routines we've got our fitness back too which has been great.
What's not been great has been being bugged for a chocolate dachshund a couple of times a week (I know! It's not a euphemism! I was surprised too!). Also I'm finding myself getting down about not seeing the olds too, it's something that's starting to really hit me anytime I see family moments on TV, etc.
Now trying to work out our plans for the fairly near future. If we can't get to Aus/NZ for a year of work next year, probably going to look to take a 4 month sabbatical at the end of 2021 to sift about NZ, so that's exciting...anyone looking to rent a house 20 odd mins from central London for a few months next year? 😬 However, that might not occur if we decide we're gonna splash all our money on bun in the oven treatment. Both healthy but just no luck there, so we have a tough decision to make as to whether we want to carry on our selfish lives or share. I'm a shit decision maker.
@MajorRage well, you asked.
Oh and being the most useless son of a hardware store owner ever, our gate is falling apart so I've set myself a project. If this works I'll be moving into internal cabinetry also.

Don't do it. I tried that in 2020 and look what happened to the fucking world.
Don't be selfish bro.
Just spend the cash on the bun (not the man bun,
the oven one) and get back into the rat race with the rest of us.Seriously though, all the best with that part. I know how stressful it is.

@MajorRage well you’ve opened the can of worms and @Bones has had a good dig around in it, so I might as well have a go too. Firstly no matter how much it might seem like I’m moaning I do realise that all things considered I’ve had a pretty easy time of it. Work wise has been a bit odd with only sporadic visits to the office and all admin and client meetings done online or by phone. It’s not ideal but it is functionable, though I do find I miss that level of human interaction. I’m worried though that I could get used to it and it becomes the norm. Money wise no problems, my income has continued intact and Though Mrs Cato has been furloughed and lost 20% of her income this hasn’t really had any effect. Health wise I have been eating and drinking a bit too much and a series of niggling injuries have made exercise less appealing but I’m doing something about all that. Not having the same levels of freedom and choice as before has inevitably led to more time at home and I find that wearisome, so much so that I’m am continuously tired which is a concern.
However my biggest concern is with the kids. No1 daughter is self employed working in two areas, PI stuff and comic book writing (2000AD seeing as you asked) but both have dried up almost completely. No2 daughter was working for a games design company while she and some Uni mates developed their own game. She gave up the first job due to getting used all the time and went into substitute teaching. That has just disappeared. Her team had done a kickstarter fund raiser and got £30k to develop the game further but then covid happened and things have stalled a bit. I just worry for them both all the time.
But, we’re all healthy and reasonably sane so we are much more fortunate than some.

There's no cure for Covid in the same way that there's no cure for Cancer.
There is treatment.
More and more convinced that it's being prolonged long enough for the Tory Puppet Masters to get their Vaccine payment.

As have the Bay City Rollers, One Direction and many deaf people. What’s your point?
