Anybody ever used a career coach?
I'm bored. Well, I wouldn't be if I was going into London, but working from home at my current crust is dead boring. IT's the interactions which made it. But this looks to be the way of the future. So I'm looking to do something completely different. I did a bike ride to Brighton the other day where one of the other guys used a career coach, as he was in a similar predicament. He said you talk about your interests / commitments / career path etc and the coach helps guide you as in to what your next steps are.
I've been thinking a lot about that lately. So wonder if anybody has used one?

Not just you fella, ther'es a bunch of us out there waiting for some normality of social interaction to resume. Turns out transactional work isn't much fun by yourself
Also, really clarifies what life as an independent consultant would be like- and realising it's not a match for my personality.

@MajorRage I haven't aside from work and friends who offer mentoring (mostly informal). But I have been given a couple of books that really helped me think about what I like to do and what I value as part of my mahi etc. Happy to pass on the names of those (once I'm in the office).

Not yet and I'm in a similar boat. I know that my chances of another airline captain's job disappeared with covid. I have businesses and things to earn money but I am lacking a bit of direction.
The government here are sponsoring this sort of thing for small business owners. The wife applied and has been granted support for the two of us. There were basically two options, a kind of more touchy feely mentoring, or the more business orientated stuff. Not sure which we will take, but will let you know when we start.
The former seems like what you are talking about for people setting up businesses, but not sure if that is what you are thinking of, or just a completely different tack as an occupation?
The social interaction thing is really interesting. I did a 9 to 7 stint in the store yesterday as I had no internet to work from home (lightning strike). I realised just how cool my staff are, and how much they needed to be there for each other after the lockdown. I'm expanding the business, rented new premises, etc and they are all so excited. It's infectious being around them, and really depressing being there on your own after 5pm.

But at least you can then access the basement without them asking about the locked door in the corner

I'm about 6 months late to the party, but great thread. @Virgil I trust you drank your way through the lockdown like I did.
Don't know how helpful it is to anyone but I'm an investigator by profession. Have investigated stuff in both the public and private domain and have a niche in social media / open source investigation.
If any ferners have dodgy prospective children-in-law, pesky tenants/landlords (i have a side interest in property so know the ins and outs of tenancy stuff to a degree) or need a real brief vetting or finding of someone, I might be able to help. My inbox is always open.

@aucklandwarlord that this follows a post by @Snowy humble bragging, has made my day.

Humble bragging about too many kidnap victims is not something that would ever have occurred to me.

My post just got upvoted by a cop. Things get more humorous by the day.
What can I say? I love my dark humour...
