I imagine he would have listened but been uncomfortable about it. I really donβt know.
Ditto with me. Once I was 20, I was expected to have pretty much expected to just get on with life like a man.
Not too sure it was the healthiest of approaches mentally, and not one I've taken with my kids.

I once told my dad I was feeling a bit anxious about my financial situation and that it was affecting my relationship. He called me a poof and told me to harden up. He then swiftly moved the conversation on to the rugby. Good times.
After the wife and I got our first house back in 2000 - and could barely afford that - my parents came to visit.
We were having a few drinks and started talking about lottery wins. I magnanimously said that if we won, we'd pay the house off, then I'd pay Mum and Dad back for the university costs they supported directly. Much poo-pooing of the idea and not to worry about it.
"So, Dad, if you won the lottery what would you give us?"
He looked puzzled. "But if I gave you a big pile of money, you wouldn't learn anything"
I was waiting for the outburst of laughter from either parent, indicating the nature of the joke, but it never came.
When I look back at some of the financial decisions they made through my earlier life, I came to realise they were both pretty shit with money, and that's why, when they argued - very rarely - it was the central topic.

er, onlyfans?
Only person who could have filmed it was the wife because she set it up.
Probably did it in portrait too...
You're not married to @jegga 's ex are you? I reckon she's done him in.
Hmmm. Wonder what her MO is?
Surely not the old, possum, gumboots, gun, duck fence trick?

My personal rules for maintaining some semblance of happiness:
- Don't sweat the small stuff
- Don't worry about the stuff you can't control
- You don't have to keep up with the Joneses
- Don't let the bastards grind you down.
5. Masturbate as required.

@NTA Still plenty of bargains in regional Victoria and you are never that far from Melbourne.
The downside being it is full of Victorians
Melbourne is a nice city.
Couldn't live there of course, because as soon as anyone finds I lived in Sydney for 20+ years they'll constantly be asking me the specific ways in which Melbourne is better
Easy answer "Because I moved here, you furry hipster mouthballs!"

I learnt early on not to sweat the small stuff.
Then when I became a dad I learnt not to sweat on the small stuff.

Crying.
Top notch ferning.
What you've all done here may have been therapeutic to yourselves, but you will definitely have helped at least one other person by sharing it. -

Kevin Hart's latest special has a ripper of a bit about how women always have to find a fuck to give.
This is a brilliant meme, guaranteed to piss off female and male archaeologists!
On another topic, I moved to Melbourne from Sydney. Never got any hassle about that, perhaps due to my velvety Snagglepuss tones.
On a Happiness scale, I should be a 1. But hey shit happens even to us deludedly idealistic fuckers...still, why does karmic shit so seldom happen to those bastards who deserve it? I've decided karma only happens 1/20 times but positive reinforcement, Hollywood formula movies, pulpJoseph Campbell lit and schadenfreude means that is enough for most to keep plodding on..

I know exactly one person from Sydney in Sydney, and he couldn't tell you which street is George St, he's the worst local ever!

You are not quite who I thought you were.
Stay away from the GOM thread - you are likely to fail there.
Oh, and Karma I have found to be far better than 1 /20. I go out to shoot a possum and get a broken rib? Spooky ay? It's all around you...

Well I'm sure "I know" more but there's only one I hang out with and nearly all my workmates are from places other than Sydney as well.
Bloody hell, what is the Fern coming too, we can't exaggerate for effect anymore.

- Oh it's a life goal. Certainly don't look like him. Or sound like him tbh (I just don't have a strong accent). But he had the best lines.
- Recoil?

Recoil?
No.
I wasn't using a blunderbuss to scatter bits of possum all over the garden, although I would like to.Was the wife's fault, a clumsy oaf never admits to it. The whole embarrissing saga is in here somewhere - I think earlier in this thread.
-
so, in the spirit of this thread, was talking to a guy on saturday night who was confronted by some of these very questions
had a good, if high pressured job that paid well, but took all of his time and energy. He had nothing left to give his family. So he resigned and took a job at Boating Camping Fishing for a third of the pay, but twice the time at home.
I can't imagine the guts that took. But he doesn't regret a bit of it. He's really fucking happy with where he is now.

@mariner4life awesome.
I don't get people who say they'd keep working if they won the lottery. Sure, it needs to be enough of a win to quit work, but FFS anything north of $3M and you can't quit, you need to have a look at yourself...
