Fatbusting: Hooroos log

  • Depends what type of gnocchi - the spinach ones should be OK, but the cheese ones can be a little fatty. The pasta is good for you provided you burn it off thereafter.

Nothing wrong with bacon sandwiches provided they've cut and drained the fat off them. You'll find during the first few weeks of giving up smoking that you'll crave something to do with your hands - hence food. Make sure you don't have a fridge or drink/food machine at your place of work.

  • you're not going to lose any weight by eating carbs after 4 o'clock unless you do some exercise before you go to bed!

  • Yep - that's why I currently cycle for an hour starting between 8-9PM

  • GODDAMMIT!!! I have put on 3.5 kgs in 10 days.  I wasn't taken my excerise seriously enough!!!
I'm now walking 1hr and 12 mins a day to and from work.  Gyming during Lunch and cricket practise on Tuesdays and Saturday!!!

Changing my diet will be more gradual than instant.

Smoked on the weekend but haven't had one without a beer, which I suppose is something

Do you play squash? Could give you a game after work a few times a week if you want.

I wish I did.  There are only two sports I really hate.  Squash and Badminton.
Would have been ideal though with us working so close.

How good are you??  If you're really good it would be pointless for you and I would end up throwing my racket at you in frustration as you played me around the court.  If you're only ok, I could be up for a game!

  • I'm very average. I rely on fitness and speed to make up for poor shot selection.

As I'm current unfit and slow, and you have a significant reach advantage, you should be fine. It's mainly a good way to run around for 40mins without realising you are running around for 40mins - beats mindless treadmilling anyway.

  • I have bad news for you Hooroo.

Whilst giving up the cigs will improve your fitness, as you will be able to breathe better, but your eating and drinking habits will change.

I gave up fags 18 months ago.  Feel miles better, but have put on a shed load of weigth, notwithstanding exercise etc.

Not sure if the old metabolism is slowing down as a result as well.

  • You always gain weight when you stop smoking, I think there's something in cigs that artificially keep your weight down a couple of kilos. Once you give up the smoke you put on 2 or 3 kgs.

I wouldn't go on a diet and quit smoking at the same time, too much of a shock for the ol' body methinks.

  • Putting on weight after smoking is as simple as one thing: You eat more. The habitual mode of cigarettes isn't just in the ingestion of various chemicals and the body's reaction to them - its the physical act of something to do. When you give up you need to fill your hands with something every 20 minutes and food seems to be the most common item, simply because its the most common to obtain. The chemical side is that its a stimulant like caffeine and keeps you going.

I gave up when at Uni and having only been a smoker for a couple of years, was fine... well that and I couldn't afford to eat. My Dad gave up while working his arse off on the farm and still managed to eat his way to another two stone. Have to say the old man would have made a great prop - 6 feet tall, about 110kg fully fit, 14 hours a day on the farm and mentally as tough as old horseshoes. Good pace for a nugget too. Shame his youth was misspent on aussie rules, but he can kick the leather off it...

  • The worse thing is, I can easily enough not have a smoke during the week, but come the weekend on the piss I smoke enough to make up for the week.  I've decided to have a couple of weeks off the booze after this weekend so I can make the 2 week barrier which is the essential first barrier in giving up.

I haven't been snacking at all during the day.

My first game of squash since puberty will be bloody hard I imagine!

  • Thanks to Phooey, I tried his 'Don't smoke until a certain time' and I set it at 8pm (We went out at 7)  It worked!!!!  In fact at 8pm I pushed the boat out to 9pm and then didn't end up smoke at all.  Although when I got dropped off, I was tempted to have a wee puff on the car exhaust.  Cravings suck, but the mind is stronger!

Bad day for food.  All you can eat Chinese!!!  6 plates full.

Have to burn it off at Squash tonight

  • Eat all the [quote name='Hooroo']

Is that a low carb thing?

  • Maybe, but it's going to be hard to put on too much weight eating stri-fried vegies and some meat. The Chinese don't have any creamy sauces, although some of their dishes can have a lot of sugar and a bit of batter. And ginger's good for your digestion system.

  • Bump

Had my first good week since this started.

Boxing on monday with a 1/2 hour walk to work each way

Good lad. The cheat day becomes a beacon at the end of the week, and is taking all my will power to wait. Especially as my wife is still eating things like chocolate and losing weight with zero exercise.

  • I hate when they do that. Mrs the Aussie lost weight after the pregnancy while I was putting it on. She didn't have time to eat whereas at work, I did!

  • mate, I am full on BFL eating again (instead of just 'eating well'), and am SOOO hanging out for tomorrow.  My treat going to be burger king while watching the Crudsaders cane the Canes...

  • I had a quarter pounder, most of a large fries (they made me nauseous at one point, but I pressed on ) and a diet coke Besides that, two protein shakes and a cup of tea today with weetbix + banana for breakfast....

  • [quote name='Hooroo']
108.5 want to get to 103 in 4 weeks.

    Ultimate is anything below 100.

First class is at 12.10 today.

Weighed myself last night before squash.

115.5 Kgs!  I must have been reading this forum via a mirror as I've got it all farked up.

Terribly depressed about it, but the kick up the jacksy I needed.  Didn't even have a beer while watching the Arsenal last night.

  • jeez Hooroo, sort your shit out mate!

I know, I know.  Am I the most unsuccessful yet?  Damn Heathrow Spread.

  • Am going to punish you on Friday's double squash session

Main thing you need to do is sort your diet out. Bor yourself during the week and have fun in the weekends.

  • yeah Kirwan, that the key - eat well in the week, that way you can blow out a little on the weekend.  Wille Weka reckons the main reason he is loing weight is the eating thing - eating right, as opposed to his worlouts, whcih no doubt are helping too.  But eating the one.

  • I have dropped my alcohol intake drastically. Basically having two big nights a month.

Sugar is gone during the week, and fat is low. We get the shopping delivered so we are only picking good foods so we aren't tempted when we get to the shop. So all our dinners are good during the week.

It's easy to be good at work, just pop into M & S on the way to work and get breakfast/lunch and I bring some fruit and a musili bar for snacks through the day. Never hungry.

  • Yeah had a healthy start. 4 toast , no butter with honey (is honey bad?)  Going to have to smack the piss on the head.  Need the damn wife here to kick me up the arse.

  • Don't have white bread either, get the wholegrain stuff.

  • [quote name='Kirwan']

No worries there as I hate white bread, unless it's a Bacon Sangar with fresh white bre...... zziitch  zzitzh.  Damn!  Dribbled on the keyboard

  • That will save you a tonne of sugar then.

  • [quote name='Kirwan']

My only sugar intake is through beer.  I don't eat sweets and my tea and coffee hasn't had sugar in it since I was 18

  • Problem with having a few quiets is it activates the appetite, then next day you crave food coz your body is trying to detox.

Hooroo 2 failings I have is portion size and not enough water. Even if its healthy if you eat too much of it :knubble:

  • portion size.  I was thinking that the other day - that is half the problem I reckon for most people.  me anyway.  Eating well is fine enough, but if you eat a kilo of bloody steak a go, and 3 cups of rice and half a packet of frozen vegies, you are still going to struggle to lose weight eh...

So portion size, cut down there, and your waist will cut down too!!
